Engineering to the future Jackson

Creek Elementary Construction Site
11th grade students in Advanced Engineering A
had the unique opportunity to learn about the
process of building a school from start to finish.
Will Anderson, Director of Planning for Richland
2, visited Westwood and shared about the
planning and logistics that are handled prior to
construction. Later in the week, the students
traveled to the construction site and toured the
school. Jackson Creek Elementary is scheduled
to open next school, so our students were some
of the first to see the school. Following the visit to
construction site, Ed Watson, New Design and
Construction Manager for Richland 2, visited
Westwood to teach the students about reading
architectural plans and gave the students a
behind-the-scenes tour of Westwood. This was
truly an awesome and unique experience for
these students!

The computer science and engineering CAT students who

scored a 5 on the WorkKeys last spring were able to participate
in the Youth Education Series at Disney World. Disney Youth
Education Series programs take place in the information-rich
setting of the Disney Parks in Florida and California to give
students and their teachers a hands-on, educational
adventure.
The first day was Manage Your Brand, where students learned
how to formulate strategies for personal and professional
success, start planning for a promising future, and discover
how to navigate unexpected career highs and lows. On the
second day they experienced Disney's approach to Leadership
and Teamwork where they learned about Walt Disney's
leadership strategies and how to apply them to achieve
stronger collaboration skills, increase confidence and set a
course for success. In both programs they were able to
practice teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
as the group participated in one-of-a-kind moments that use the
magic of Disney to make learning even more impactful. It was a
tremendous experience combining learning and fun!
