your right of residence. The personal information shown in your passport or other identity card,
along with your address, mother tongue and occupation, will be recorded in the Finnish Population
Information System. If your right of residence is not registered, your information will not be
recorded in the Population Information System and you will not be issued a personal identity code.
A personal identity code consists of 11 characters, indicating your date of birth and your sex (e.g.
300171-931H). You need a personal identity code when dealing with the authorities, and it will
make any dealings with the bank or your employer easier.
