Conference:

PICE NATIONAL MIDYEAR CONVENTION

Venue/Date:

Fontana Convention Center, Fontana Leisure Parks and Casino, Clark

Freeport Zone, Angeles City, Pampanga- June 16-18, 2016

Organization:

Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers

First of all, I would like to thank HAU for giving me the opportunity to attend the PICE Midyear
National Convention. Those conferences were very interesting and gave me the opportunity to
learn many issues in regards to civil engineering profession amidst climate change.
The said conferences with the general theme RESPONSIBLE CIVIL ENGINEERING
PRACTICES AMIDST CLIMATE CHANGE had a great impact towards my work especially in
molding the future engineers in addressing our countrys challenges to infrastructures to
complement our nature and its resources.
The three most important things that I have learned during the conference were the following:
1. Stronger Is Not Necessarily Better- in this technical session they discussed the
significance of tests and properties of Civil Engineering materials.
2. CLIMATE CHANGE: Its impact to the Civil Engineering Practice in this technical
session they discussed the effect of climate change to civil engineering profession and
how to addressed those changes.
3. ENVIRONMENTAL and ENERGY ENGINEERING- in this technical session they
discussed how to assess potential reuse of wastewater in concrete mixture and the validity
and reproducibility of impact damage estimates using satellite Maps and Imagery in
broad scale data gathering after a natural disaster.
Relevance of the topics discussed during the conference was the following:

1. Present Work- as a faculty I should equipped myself with the latest trends in civil
engineering especially the effects of climate change in our profession to share with my
students who will become the future engineers.
2. Professional Growth- as a civil engineer I must be knowledgeable on the issue of climate
change that will help me develop strategies to protect our communities, our environment
and ecosystem for the betterment of the society.
3. Personal Growth- as a person I must be aware of issues regarding climate change for me
to address the effect of this phenomenon in the community and environment.
The knowledge I have gained in this conference is indeed a gem that will treasure throughout my
entire life. The information I absorbed in the conference will greatly contribute to my profession
in a sense that I could share it to my students as a proof of theories we discussed inside the
classroom. Moreover I could share my students to become responsible civil engineers in the
future by developing strategies to protect our communities and understanding the importance of
their profession for the sustainable development of our country through civil engineering designs
and new technologies that will truly help them to ensure that they can look forward to a greener
future of our beloved country and our neighbors.
As a faculty member of the civil engineering department who has given the opportunity to attend
this conference, I have the responsibility to share the knowledge I have gained to my peers and
colleagues. I will conduct an echo seminar to my co faculty and provide them a copy of the
seminar materials for their references.
The aspect and insight that I have discovered that can be practically adopted by Holy Angel
University is the awareness of the effect of climate change in the community and society as a
whole and give their share in developing strategies to protect the environment.
