Chapter I

Introduction
People nowadays are living in an information age
dependent upon digital Information. Digital information is
electronic information, the result of computer processing.
Every type of job relies upon getting information, using it,
managing it, and relaying information to others. Computers
enable the efficient processing and storage of information.

A grading system plays a key role in the management

system of any school. But, such systems do to not often
relate expectations, outcomes and performance. As each
student desires to achieve a good score for each
assignment, exam, project and/or report, the whole process
adds heavy workload for teachers inorder to make their
evaluation fair, comprehensive, and accurate. From the
faculty perspective, these are necessary to avoid
disagreement from students and parents, A computerized

Grading systems are designed to provide incentives for
achievement and assist in identifying problem areas of a
student. It is the most commonly used means of analyzing
student performance, talents and skills. Student grades are
vital information needed in advancing to the next grade/year
level and its accuracy is very import.
Many teachers feel that the time they take in recording and
computing for the grades of their students is time that could

be better spend elsewhere, like preparing lessons,

researching or meeting with their students. Student With the
advent of computer technology, more and more schools are
taking advantage of a variety of grading systems available
both off-line and online that can help save time on
administrative tasks and give teachers more time to attend
to other important functions. However, a greeter majority,
especially small schools, government schools, and schools in
remote areas, still utilize the manual method of recording
and computing for the grades of the students.
The proponents of this study wish to reduce the
workload of teacher by eliminating the need for manual
computation and recording of each grade. The common
problems
encountered
in
manual
recording
and
computations are error-and file-handling, and redundancy. As
the workload gradually increases with growing amounts of
grades and student lists that need to be attended, it
becomes tedious on the part of the teacher to proficiently
manage them in time for documentation and file submission
to higher education authorities. As such, this paper aims to
produce a workable computerized grading system that will
address
these
issues.
Background of the Study

Ema Emits College Philippines is a private school in

Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro. It was utilizing the manual
system in almost all phases of their schoolwork.
The school maintains a small staff of teachers and
personnel as compared to its growing population. There are
teacher handing as much as four different subject, aside

from being a class adviser and area coordinator. Majority of

the teachers handle three different grade levels.
Ema Emits College Philippines School uses the manual
way of Computing grades and adding information or records
of both students and professors. The process entails a lot of
effort and by computing and storing of data manually the
process is prone to error especially for the professors who
handle two or more classes. By using the manual way of
computing and storing data, being prone to error is possible
and just by a single mistake, repeating the process may be
required.

Developing a computerized grading systems for Ema Emits

College Philippines market task of recording and computing
grades easier for the teachers. This will not only benefit the
teachers of the school but will also benefits the students
because of the improvement in the accuracy of calculators,
in getting their evaluation grades and in the proficiency and
productivity of the teachers.

Rationale of the Study

To built an computerize grading system in our
institution and to lessen a error in manual grading.

Statement of the objectives

General Objectives
The general objective of this study is to develop a
Computerized Grading System for Ema Emits College
Philippines.
Specific Objectives
To create a module that will record the students name,
grade level and section
To create a module that will compute the students
quarterly grade based on inputted data.
To create a module that will secure and maintain the
integrity of data.
Significance of the Study
The computers provide convenience to its user through the
easier and faster way of recording information. Population of
student in almost all education institution is rapidly
increasing so great demand in teaching force is also
becoming higher.
Grading System is a very important aspect of a schools
operations and goals. The students are graded to measure

their performance and knowledge in every grading period.

Teachers spend massive time to accurately compute the
grades of the students using their calculators, and in earlier
times, teachers manually solve grades using paper and pen.
The basic objectives of a grading systems is to communicate
to parents a periodic evaluation summarizing significant
factors of the students adjustment in the total education
program. The cumulative purpose of the grading system is to
supply the parent a composite statement of educational
process in a specified period of time for the student in
selected areas of learning

Philipines will provide a marked improvement in the way
teachers record and compute for the grades of students.
Scope and Limitation
Scope
Can view the student records
Can compute the student grades

Review of Related Literature

To analyze and review the related literature of our research in computerize
grading system. The review focuses on a number of different literatures that is related in
the system. We looked for the related literature foreign literature either in books, previous
school lessons, websites and other forms that can helps in our research.

Related System
Grading system in Hokaching University.
The Hokaching University uses the manual system in encoding and adding of
students and information. It also uses the manual processing and computing
of grades so they find existing process to be time consuming since it have to
put the records manually. To adopt an effective and efficient tool is needed

Claro M. Recto Computerized Grading System

Claro M. Recto ICT High School is a small public school in Angeles City,
Pampanga. It was established 8 years ago and is utilizing the manual system
in almost all phases of their school work.

Santo Tomas Grading System.

The Santo Tomas e-Service Providers (STePS) is one of the duly established support units of
the University which runs and operates under the direct supervision of the Office of the
Secretary-General. The over-all function of this support unit is to provide considerable
contribution to quality service for the entire Thomasian community through the provision of
computerized systems that facilitate operations of day-to-day office transactions, as well as
provide other IT requirements that are relevant and conducive to the academic milieu.

Synthesis
The review of related studies serves as a guideline and foundations of the proponents.
The related system helps us in some information. And its only prove that the research that
we search is proven by many school in the country and in the other countries out there.
Like other school EECP experience the same problem experienced in the school stated in
this research. And like other schools we formulate how to solve this problem. And the
way that can solve this problem is to built a Computerized Grading System for EECP like
other school did.

Chapter III

Research Design
The method of research we used in the study A
Computerized Grading System is the descriptive type of method
research, because this kind of research describes the present system,
which is the manual way of grading system based on the impressions
of the respondents. We used this kind of research because it is
appropriate in knowing the extent to which the different conditions of
the present set up of the study is.

Methods of Research
The descriptive survey method was used to achieve the
purpose of the study. We talked to the registrar and to the dean of our
school to gather some information about the grading system that we
are going to research. And we also know what are some problems that
we encountered in getting grades.
Based on the research Ema Emits College Philippines is
using an manual computation of grades of each students, which is the
traditional used when technology is not yet developed. Since we are
used of using the manual way of computing grades, why not, we try
something new and easier to make the job done fast.

Chapter V
Summary, Conclusions and
Recommendations
Summary
Based on the study that the researchers made, several problems
can be encountered when using manual way of recording and computing of
grades. One example of that problem are unretrieve files or records of the
students.
So, the researchers had determined first the viability of the
software by the some problems that we encounter in the current grading
system. After analyzing it, the researchers found that majority of the
respondents, which are the enrolled students the faculty and staffs and some
people whom answered the problems infavor in an automated grading
system.

Conclusion
Based on the findings, the researcher came up with a conclusion
that a computerized grading system is a must-have in a school. It is a best
way of storing and computing grades of students that provides easy way in
getting the grades and to make the procedure faster and efficient.

Recommendation
Based from the conclusion made, the researcher highly
recommends that the school must have computerized grading system
because computerized is focused on retrieving and storing information of the
student in a faster, more convenient way of storing files of the student
enrollees in a computerized system that will lessen the effort of faculty staff
in storing files of each the students. This will also serve as information for
irregular students, transferees, and freshmen to get course and subject
schedule. The information can be viewed in just a second without worrying
that a single files is lost.
