InformaCast Virtual Appliance Advanced

Notification Release Notes

InformaCast Virtual Appliance Advanced Notification version 11.5.2 for a Cisco Unified
Communications Manager Telephony environment (InformaCast) is a popular IP broadcasting
application for virtualized environments. These release notes document the compatibility requirements,
new features, and known/resolved issues in the new version.

Compatibility
InformaCast is compatible with the following versions of Cisco Unified Communications Manager
server (including Business Edition 6000): 9.0.1, 9.1.2, 10.0.1, 10.5.2, 11.0.1, and 11.5.1.

New Features

Newly Supported Phones. PushToTalk now supports the following Cisco IP phone models:
7811, 7821, 7841, 7861, 8821, and 8831.

New Upgrade File. A new file (InformaCast_11.5.2.deb) has been added to the upgrade process.
Depending on the version of InformaCast Virtual Appliance from which you are starting, you will
install different package files:

For 8.0.2 or 8.1 to the current version, you will install five package files
(singlewireBaseImageUpgrade-1.1.deb, singlewireVAUpgrade-1.1.deb,
singlewireVAUpgrade-1.4.deb, InformaCast_9.1.1.deb, and InformaCast_11.5.2.deb)

For 8.2, 8.3, or 8.4 to the current version, you will install three package files
(singlewireVAUpgrade-1.4.deb, InformaCast_9.1.1.deb, and InformaCast_11.5.2.deb)

For 8.5.1, 9.0.1, or 9.0.2 to the current version, you will install two package files
(InformaCast_9.1.1.deb and InformaCast_11.5.2.deb)

Resolved Issues

For 9.1.1, 11.0.1, 11.0.2, 11.0.5, or 11.5.1 to the current version, you will install one package
file (InformaCast_11.5.2.deb)

InformaCast Virtual Appliance 8.5.1 and 9.1.1 are waypoints in the upgrade process. For 8.0.2
through 8.4 versions of the Virtual Appliance, you must upgrade to 8.5.1, reboot the Virtual
Appliance, upgrade to 9.1.1, reboot the Virtual Appliance, and then continue to upgrade to 11.5.2.
For 8.5.1, 9.0.1, and 9.0.2 versions of the Virtual Appliance, you must upgrade to 9.1.1, reboot the
Virtual Appliance and then continue to upgrade to 11.5.2. For 9.1.1, 11.0.1, 11.0.2, 11.0.5, and
11.5.1 versions of the Virtual Appliance, you can upgrade directly to 11.5.2.

Resolved Issues

Fixed Display of Variables Names in CallAware Plugin Broadcasts. Previously, dynamic text
variables were appearing in broadcasts when you ran reports and used the CallAware plugin with
dynamic text in the Short Message Text and/or Long Message Text field(s) of the message, e.g.
${time} was appearing instead of 11:30 p.m. This issue has been resolved.

Fixed Persistent Messages on 78XX and 88XX Model Phones. Previously, messages without
the Persistent Text checkbox selected that were broadcast to 78XX and 88XX model Cisco
phones were persisting despite their configuration. This issue was due to a bad date value in the
Expires header that was sent to the phones. The date has been revised, and this issue has been
resolved.

Addressed CVEs Released by the NTP Consortium. In June 2016, the NTP consortium
released the following set of Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs): CVE-2016-4957,
CVE-2016-4953, CVE-2016-4954, CVE-2016-4955, and CVE-2016-4956. For more information
on these CVEs, refer to NTPs Security Notice listing. InformaCast was modified to address these
CVEs. This issue has been resolved.

Fixed Validation Error with Bell Schedule Exceptions and the API. Previously, if you were
using the API to create an exception to a bell schedule where the end of the exception was for the
current day, the API would return an error message stating, Exception end date must not be in
the past, and no exception would be created. This issue has been resolved.

Fixed Truncated Audio in Pre-recorded Audio Messages with As-available Delivery and
Attached Audio Replacement Scripts. Broadcast endpoints (e.g. phones and IP speakers)
participating in broadcasts using pre-recorded messages with attached audio replacement scripts
and as-available delivery were not hearing the dynamic audio twice. Instead, they were hearing the
dynamic audio for the duration of the permanent audio associated with the message. For example,
a pre-recorded audio message is configured with as-available delivery and has a two-second
permanent audio file associated with it. If a message script that generates dynamic audio with a
longer duration (i.e. 20 seconds) is attached to the message and that message is sent to an endpoint,
listeners would only hear audio for the duration of the permanent audio (i.e. two seconds) instead
of the full dynamic audio twice (i.e. 40 seconds). This issue has been resolved.

Addressed CVE Affecting Linux Kernel. InformaCast included a version of the Linux kernel
that was affected by the vulnerability identified by the Common Vulnerability and Exposures
(CVE) ID of CVE-2016-5696. This vulnerability on the TCP stack of certain Linux kernels may
have allowed an attacker to either reset or perform a blind data injection on an established TCP
session. This issue has been resolved.

Release Notes
Known Issues

Known Issues

Non-standard Ports Unsupported. The LPI plugin does not currently support sending SIP
messages to non-standard port numbers. This is a known issue.

No Environment-dependent Object/Resource Display. All objects/resources in the API

Explorer are displayed at all times regardless of environment, (e.g. Unified Communications
Manager vs. HRE, stand-alone InformaCast vs. InformaCast with resiliency). This issue is known
and outstanding.

Uploading Large Files Causes Browser to Hang. When uploading large files through the API
Explorer (e.g. audio files for pre tone, post tones, the General Voice menu, etc., or image files), the
browser hangs or crashes with the error, Not enough storage is available to complete this
operation. Use a dedicated client call (e.g. PostMan REST) to upload large files. This issue is
known and outstanding.

High-quality Audio Recording not Supported from a Phone. Setting highQuality to true for
the APIs Messages/{messageId}/recordAudio resource does not result in high-quality audio
when performed from a phone. This is a known and outstanding issue.

New Version of CXF Affects Pre-existing Java Clients Using SOAP API. If you are upgrading
from a pre-11.0.5 version of InformaCast, your applications or integrations that call InformaCast
SOAP API targets may need to change as part of upgrading to InformaCast 11.5.2. The API targets
affected include BroadcastService, MessageService, MessageServiceV2, VersionService,
RecipientGroupService, and RecipientGroupServiceV2. If your custom application or integration
calls these targets with an XML payload, your XML payloads now must not contain the
wsse:Nonce and wsu:Created XML elements. Please refer to the Apache CXF migration guides for
further details on how your application may be affected
(http://cxf.apache.org/docs/migration-guides.html). Take special note in the 3.0 migration guide
under the section WS-Security if upgrading from a CXF 2.x version
(http://cxf.apache.org/docs/30-migration-guide.html).
