First and foremost, I would like to thank my Additional Mathematics

Assessment is an important component in the learning process and promotes learning by
motivating student to improve their performance and academic achievement. Through
assessment, a teacher is able to know the performance of students in the tests and could
compare the performance of the students in different tests. Knowing the performance of the
students and the level of difficulty of the tests can help a teacher to plan its teaching strategy
to improve the students performance. The level of difficulty of the tests can also be adjusted
according to the ability of the students. The mean marks and the standard deviation are
usually used to show the performance of the students and level of difficulty of the test.
Besides,composite index can also be used to show the students performance and the level of
difficulty of the test.
Aim
The aim of this project is to apply the concept of statistics in knowing the students
performance in a test and the difficulty level of the tests.
Objectives
1. Calculate the mean and standard deviation of the marks of the students.
2. Calculate the composite index of the marks.
3. Use the mean mark,standard deviation and composite index to compare the students
performance and the difficulty level of different tests.
PART 1
I have collected the marks of a English in the 2015 Mid Year and Final Year
examination for 50 students in our school, SMJK JIT SIN. I collected them
to obtain information of students achievement and level of difficulty of a
certain subject in two different test.

Conclusion
Mean of Mid Year Examination is higher than Final Year Examination.
Standard Deviation of Final Year Examination is lower than Mid Year Examination.
Composite Index of Final Year Examination is lower than Mid Year Examination.

Mid year examination shows a better achievement of the students.

REFLECTION
By doing the project,I found out that statistics can be used to show students performance in
any subjects.As a students ,I will know if my fellow friends are as good as me in English.
However,I shouldnt feel proud of myself as there are other subjects that I need to
concentrate and put more effort in it.
