1.Introduction
In collaboration with the Griffith University Red Zone, this document proposes a new innovative design
application, accessible in the Red Zone more specifically the dome. The central focus is to create innovative
technology of some sort to promote a specific field of interest. The field of Medicine and Medical science was
chosen over Environmental science due to the opportunity to engage students, in learning more about the
functions of the human body in a more interactive way.

1.1.

Project Description

The Red Zone is a promotional facility that features Griffiths state of the art research and teaching expertise.
Similar to a local art museum, this facility showcases all the latest knowledge of innovative technology
introduced in an engaging environment. The Out of Body Experience (O.B.E) introduces an interactive
platform of learning more about the body. Particularly the promotion of healthy lifestyles, how certain elements
will react with the body both (Positive & Negative) and the general education of how the body functions. This
application will be utilising the existing engine of the Microsoft Kinect Controller, that way no financial
investments must be made for this application to be introduced. Not only will this be a new addition to the Red
Zone but this could also lead to new potentials of transitioning traditional learning in Griffith University to more
interactive learning.

1.2.

Product Scope

The OBE application will:

Allow uses to interact with the human anatomy system within a virtual application through the Kinect
software.
Allow users to gain knowledge on each specific part of the human anatomy system.
Educate users on how certain lifestyles such as obesity and intake of drugs, alcohol and cigarettes will
affect the body.
Encourage users to live healthier lifestyles.

1.3.

The GTG product will not:

The OBE application will not:

Require any financial investments for the development of the application
Display excessive blood and gore in order to keep the application
Support more than one user at a time
Support users with certain disabilities (Blindness, missing limbs, etc)

1.4.

Audience Details

The O.B.E application is primarily tailored to university students as the possibility of outside entities including
families and children is not as convincing. However the application does not endorse limitation so anyone that
is on campus sight is more than welcomed to use it. The O.B.E application does not proclaim any additional
rules other than the existing rules that the Red Zone facility upholds. Though it is encouraged that everyone is

able to use the application, in order for the application to function promptly and sufficiently, the user must be
capable to follow certain tasks that is asked by the application. Example, the use of the hand motion and body
movement. Because of this requirement not all bodies are suitable for this application as there are multiple
conditions and illnesses that restrict movement in the body.

Usability Objectives

The ensure players and users get the most out of their experience when playing useability objectives have to
be employed so we can cater to the success of the game. The following table contains information about the
five useability objectives.
Satisfaction

Learnability

Memorability

Efficacy

Errors

Since this is an educational game student

satisfaction was highlighted as a priority. To
ensure this would be a success, we employed
realistic scenarios, imagery and sounds that
would put the student in the drivers seat so
that they can get a realistic impression of the
situations reality.
The game is easy and simple to learn. To
ensure that this was the case, we placed
symbols, buttons and instructions to assist the
player. For example there is a question mark
button to assist players when the encounter
difficulties.
When students are absent from the game for a
period of time it is quite easy for them to
remember the procedures of the game. There
will be a menu, buttons and other symbols with
instructions that will help them remember what
they did or what they have to do resembling to
when first play the game.
Once users have learned the design they can
commence the game almost immediately.
There will be skip buttons to skip tutorials if the
user is confident he or she knows what they
are doing. Since the game is based on the
anatomy, the speed in which users complete
activities will vary depending on knowledge.
When users play the game the severity of their
errors will not be a problem. There are clear
concise and easy to understand instructions to
insure they do not get lost. The only time the
player would experience an error is when they
fail to complete a certain task successfully.

Structural Design

The OBE application will be implemented and used through the Microsoft Kinect system which will allow the
users to interact with the application by utilising their own bodies as the controller. The Kinect system is known
for its issues with the interface which inspired the OBEs basic navigation and structural design.
The structural design will consist of screens detailing the following sections:

The listed screens of each section will follow a navigational hierarchy diagram shown below.

Prior to the development of the structural design, the typical brain storm allowed the team to identify what
aspects need to be implemented in to the application. Each section holds its own group of information.

conditions but not a great amount of choices.
This page allows the user to advocate the
condition that the human anatomy on the
screen is in, this will hopefully shift the
perspective that people have, and ultimately
inspire them to alter their lifestyle into a more
active and healthy life.

The font that will be used for all the information displayed will be Arial as it is very basic and simple to read.
Certain sections will be of a larger font size than others due to space allowed. The background colour will be a
dark colour to create contrast. This will make it easier to distinguish the person and their body a lot easier. It
will also make it easier to view the icons on the page.
