The Other Half
In this teaching activity, students use the past perfect simple to write and match sentences.
Before class, make one copy of the two worksheets for each pair of students.
Procedure
Give each student a copy of the first worksheet.
Tell them to think about how the sentences might be continued. Then, give the students time
to complete the 15 sentences in their own way using the past perfect tense.
Monitor and check the students are using the past perfect.
Next, divide the students into pairs (A and B) and give them the corresponding part of the
second worksheet.
Tell the students not to show their worksheet to their partner.
Student A reads the first part of each sentence to Student B. Student B tries to find and then
reads the other half of the sentence to Student A.
When they both agree the two halves match, they mark the correct number or letter next to
the sentence.
When everyone has finished, check the answers with the class.
