Study of switching characteristics of a controlled switch MOSFET.
Diagram:
Part-1 Basic Understanding
From MOSFET specification sheet, note the various dynamic switching variables such as rise time, fall time etc. Try to implicate these variables in waveshapes associated with the switching transitions. Part-2 Design i) Appropriate loading condition. ii) Appropriate drive control circuit which has feature of gating-signal generation with variable frequency. Part-3 Simulation Using a dedicated simulation package like PSPICE wherein considered MOSFET make is available, comment on switching, blocking and conduction losses and trajectories for following system dynamics: a) For a given load, sweep the frequency (appropriate range) of gating-signal b) Change the loading, and perform step a) again. Part-4 Hardware Realization After appreciating the simulation task try realizing the circuit as hardware and support for switching dynamics of MOSFET, as obtained above. Use of appropriate driver circuit with micro-controllers (Arduino, Tiva etc) is highly encouraged. Capture the snapshots of appropriate signals in DSO and process the data for calculating various losses incurred due to switching dynamics. Conclude with suitable inferences.
