Is Ethics The Heart Of Leadership?

No doubt that ethical leadership has become an important issue in the

research field throughout
history although many paramount questions
remain controversial.
In the article The Ethical Challenges of Executive Leadership: A
Stakeholder Analysis (The Antonine University [UPA],Pertinence, no 4,
2011), Berj Traboulsi claims
that Ethics & Leadership are crucial
components for the wellbeing of many organizations. For him , ethics is
about moral reasoning raising concerns on three main points (individual,
organizational, & societal ) whereas leadership is about power, motivation, &
change which has three central essentials( the leader, the followers ,and the
context). His article tackles 3 main questions; what us executive leadership?
How do executive leaders build ethical communities? How do they cope
ethically with change and challenges? He makes a good combination
between the ethical challenges within the Lebanons multicultural context.
He believes the interaction among the various variables such as global and
local cultures will not facilitate the study of executive leadership and
organizational culture in Lebanon. So he recommends us to work on cases
and analyze executive leadership and ethics with a particular context . He
claims that successful leaders think strategically & take action to address
them within the organizational context, and influence other stakeholders to
drive the institution toward the desired performance outcomesSo; it is
obvious that Traboulsi, by making use of reliable sources, highlights many
issues about leadership.
Furthermore, Ethics is the heart of leadership; it should go hand in
hand. Martin Luther King Jr. was a social activist, who led the Civil Rights Movement in the
United States from the mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968. When people think of
Martin Luther King Jr., they think of a great leader. His famous I have a Dream speech shows
just what kind of leader he was, a man who was very effective at what he did. King was
described by some as having a unique way of getting people to work together rather than fight.
He was a transformational leader. Transformational leaders are good examples of ethical leaders
where followers are raised to higher standards to the point where they are being trained as
leaders although I believe ethics is the heart of leadership.
