Sleeping Beauty Audition Monologues

Young Prince:
Today is a monumental day in my lifetime of these short 7 years.
You see, today is the day that it is arranged for me to meet my intended, my future
bride. It may seem somewhat odd, but in this medieval day, its quite ordinary.
Im told shes rather pretty, my bride to be. The entire kingdom is anxious to catch
a glimpse of her. Im actually a bit nervous myself. Its strange meeting your
future wife at such a young age. I wonder if shell even remember meeting me?
Would I care to take a peek at her? Well, . . . I know she wont bite, its just that
Ive never seen a new born baby before.
Shes all wrinkly & pink! Theres no indication of what shell look like when she
grows older.

Fairy:
Your Majesties, we will each bless Princess Aurora with one gift, no more & no
less. Little Princess, your first gift shall be the gift of beauty. Wherever you go,
people will recognize you for your great beauty & warmth. The second gift will be
that of song. Sweet music will guide you through your days. The third will be the
gift of knowledge. Aurora will be blessed with wit & intelligence. And dear little
Princess, the final gift will be . . . Maleficent! We werent expecting you!

Maleficent:
Well what an attractive gathering we have here. I spy royaltyand my, my, my nobility, the gentry and how quaint, four little Oompah Loompahs who escaped
from the set of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate factory!. I felt quite slighted not
receiving an invitation of my own. Id hoped that it was merely an oversight.
Now I can tell by the looks on your faces that I just wasnt wanted. Pity. Then Id
best be on my way. Oh - - and to show that I bare no hard feelings, I too will
bestow a gift on the child Listen well, all of you!(change tone of voice) The
Princess will indeed grow in grace & beauty and be loved by all who know her.
But, before the sun sets on her 16th birthday, she shall prick her finger on a
spinning wheel - and die!

Princess Aurora:
Rest? How could I possibly rest at a time like this? All my life I dreamed of
meeting a handsome prince. I imagined what it would be like to be born a true
princess. And now, they tell me its all about to come true. In a couple of hours Ill
be meeting my future husband, Prince - - - whats-his-name, and this isnt what I
want at all! How dare my father send me away for 16 years & then tell me that I
must wed a a-- whats-his-name. And why? Because it was all arranged at
birth? This is mad! This is absurd! This is -- hopeless. How can I marry whatshis-name, when my heart belongs to Phillip?

Kid:
Have you heard the news? King Stephen is throwing a ball! There will be a feast
to honor the birth of his new baby daughter! Theyve named her Aurora, which
means sunrise. Bells can be heard ringing throughout the kingdom! Queen
Ermagard will be arriving with young Prince ah whats his name. Hes going
to meet his future bride today! Shes only a few days old and shes about to meet
her husband. Im already 9 years old and I still have no idea who I am going to
marry!

Ogre:
Your Evilnesswe bring you news.
Whaddaya want to hear first, the good news or the bad news?
Alright then, youll hear the good news. The good news is . . . We
located the princess! We know just where theyre hiding her. We even know the
secret name theyve given her. Now, for the bad news. Were not the only ones
who discovered the whereabouts of the Princess today. It appears that Prince you
know, Prince errrr, whats-his-name He also found her. And - they liked each
other - very much. This could throw a big fat wrench in your plans.

Big Prince: Whats happened here? Whoa! Why is everyone sleeping on the
ground? Look! Theres Mother & King Stephen and . . . Briar Rose? Is she all
right? If shes been harmed in any way Ill - Why on earth would Malificent cast
a spell on her? You say theres a way that I could reverse the spell? Id do
anything. Just tell me what I have to do. Kiss her? I couldnt do that!
(Embarrassed) Ive never kissed a girl before (Excuse) and it wouldnt be polite to
kiss her while shes asleep. . . and in front of all these people? Yes, yes, I know
we havent got all day but - - Id like some privacy please.

Queen:
Stop straggling behind Phillip.
Were almost there. This is your big day. Now dont forget what Ive taught you,
Phillip! Mind your manners and remember to stand up straight. Good posture is very
important. Dont day dream when King Stephen speaks to you. Pay attention to everything that
he says to you. Remember to keep your napkin on your lap. You want to impress your future inlaws. A young Prince shouldnt straggle behind. Remember to say please & thank you and
dont forget to smile. Phillip pay attention! Isnt this exciting? Youre going to meet your wife!

King:
Welcome, welcome ladies & gentlemen. The Queen & I are honored to have you all present to
celebrate this joyous occasion. We are pleased to welcome Queen Ermagard & her young son
Prince, (whispered) whats his name? Ah, yes, Prince Phillip. Would you like to meet your
future wife, my boy? Why do you appear reluctant? She wont bite you. Nervous? Youre
nervous? Would you excuse us for a moment, please? Why the frown, my boy? She wont even
remember you. This is the arrangement your father & Iagreed upon and it is up to you to follow
our wishes. Im afraid you have no other option. Congratulations!

Ogre II: Banished? Weve been banished forever! We dont like, even get to live in
Maleficients dungeon no more. I know, right? No more crows feet for dinner. We didnt
realize how good we had it. Whatever! It was good for nothing! And the crows feet stunk!
Right under our noses. She was like, like, right under our noses. Shes gone now. Gone to the
Palace of King Stephen.
She was right here. And we didnt discover her for 16 years.
Fellow Ogres, I think I know of a way to weasel back into Maleficents good graces. Prince
Phil, have a seat. Were going to see to it that youre escorted back to the Kingdom, first class.

Abagail/ Rosaline: Theres a cottage up ahead. We can stop there. If you hadnt decided
upon this silly detour wed be halfway to the kingdom by now. Well excuse me, your royal
highness. I wanted to save some time and arrive early for the biggest celebration the kingdom
has held in 16 years. She just asked if Im a real princess! (Laughs) If I were a princess we
wouldnt be walking to the palace just to catch a glimpse of the prince. You sound disappointed
that Im not a real Princess. Havent you ever seen a princess before? Only in picture books?
Well, were on our way to the kingdom to attend a Royal Celebration. Youre welcome to tag
along. But if you ask me its all terribly over rated. All of the noble mumble jumble and all the
formalities; all of the arranged meetings and the arranged banquets, arranged crochet games and
arranged marriages. Romantic? Seriously? Theyve never even met and tomorrow theyre
forced to wed. Forget everything youve read. Todays princes are nothing like the heroes you
read about in fairytales.

Aurora II:

In just a few moments Ill be leaving the forest and making my first appearance
at the royal kingdom. Funny, when I asked my aunts how long wed be visiting, they seemed
strangely quiet. Perhaps well be staying for quite a while? They do seem to be acting peculiar
this morning. Its almost as if theyre somehow sad about leaving the forest; as if were not
returning for a very long time. (She exits to say goodbye to the forest)
Excuse me. Have you lost something? You lost your horse? When did you last see him?
(laughing) No. I would never laugh at you. I just cant imagine losing anything as large as a
horse! You say youre accustomed to people laughing at you? Are you a jester then? Oh,
youre a woodsman? And youre here in the forest to? Oh, to hunt!

Kid II: : The royal wedding takes place today. How I wish we were invited.
The King & Queen didnt invite any of us children to the wedding. If only I were
Older or if I were taller. If only I knew of a way to get into the palace. Perhaps
the wedding will be a royal drag. No one has seen Aurora in 16 years. She may
not even look like a Princess. She may not even like the prince. If she doesnt like
the Prince they may cancel the wedding. That would be an epic disaster! But then
the Prince would be available and in search of a new bride. He would eventually
meet the children of the kingdom. And we would introduce him to my counselor
Jessalyn!

Minstrel : Am I the only one who finds this situation to be a bit peculiar? He is only
7 yrs. Old - and about to meet his intended bride. I understand that everyones very
excited about the birth of our new Princess. I too am excited, but think of poor Prince
ah ah - whats-his-name. He is a bit young to be meeting his future wife. I know
that in these Medieval times thats the way its done. Doesnt that seem a little odd
to anyone?
All this fuss and shes only an infant. Now Im off to the palace. I dont want to miss
any of the festivities and I cant wait to see the look on the kids face when he meets
his future wife! And I certainly dont want to miss lunch! A royal buffet should be
comparable to what you might call an awesome spread!
