VALIDATE YOUR MARRIAGE

Marriage is one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church.

The effect of the sacrament is an increase in sanctifying grace for
the spouses, a participation in the divine life of God Himself.
Were you married by a judge, justice of the peace or a
minister of another faith? Would you like to have your marriage
validated in the Church? Please arrange a time to meet with Fr.
Jun to talk about receiving this very important sacrament.

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
Good stewards recognize the movement of the Holy
Spirit as a gift and make efforts to cultivate this gift and
grow in their faith. Take time this week to stop and
look around you, be aware of Gods awe-inspiring creation, and give thanks for Gods loving care and concern for each of us.

Good News
Wisdom 11:22-12:2; Psalm: 145:1-2, 8-9, 10-11, 13, 14; 2 Thessalonians 1:11-2:2; Luke 19:1-10
In the Gospel Reading, Jesus comes to Zacchaeus house for dinner, and it is an enormous honor for Zacchaeus that he does.
Great honors come to great people. If you are a great scientist you might win the Nobel prize. If you are a great athlete you might
win an Olympic gold medal. The people who get these honors seem amazing to us. And yet these are not the big honors. They pale
in comparison to having God incarnate come to dinner. So what is it about Zacchaeus that makes him win an honor bigger than
the Nobel prize or the Olympic gold medal? What are the standards of greatness on Gods standards of value?
The Second Reading explains it. Paul prays for the Thessalonians, he tells them, that they may be made worthy of the calling of
God. And how are they made worthy? By living in such a way that the name of Jesus is glorified in their lives.
How does a life glorify the name of Jesus? Well, people looking at you will not think the God you worship is great if you humiliate your wife in public, neglect your children, spend most of your free time on TV, gossip maliciously about others, and try hard to
get as much attention for yourself as you can, will they? Who would want to be like you? Who would want to worship the God you
say you worship? So to be great by Gods standards of value is to live in such a way that others looking at you can see and admire
the greatness of the Lord.
Now notice Zacchaeus. He didnt attract anyones admiration. He was a tax collector, who got rich from the oppression of his
own people. He didnt care much for his own dignity either. Short as he was, he climbed a tree to see Jesus. But this is the point of
the story and the answer to the question about greatness, isnt it?
A persons winning human prizes (and being tall) isnt what glorifies the Lord. What glorifies the Lord is a persons seeking the
Lord first, above all other prizes. Zacchaeus doesnt care what happens to him as long as he can get to the Lord. That is what
makes Zacchaeus great. And that is why Jesus came to dinner at his house.

CANNOT MARRY IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH DUE TO A
PRIOR MARRIAGE? Pope Francis recently streamlined
the process to petition for the declaration of nullity to
make the process shorter. He also eliminated the
mandatory fee. If a person is able to prove in this
process that their prior marital bond was invalid for
some reason, then he or she can marry in the Catholic Church or validate a current civil marriage. For
assistance in petitioning, you can contact Fr. Jun at
293-5026 who can assist you as an advocate.

LITURGY WORKSHOP
Deacon Modesto Cordero will visit us on Saturday, November 19th, at 9AM to continue the Liturgy Workshop he began

Living Catholic in the 808:

Mutual Love & Commitment
By: Easter Almuena Adult Faith Formation and Marriage Ministry
Cathedral Basilica Our Lady of Peace

The beauty of the teaching of the Church on marriage can be seen in the image of a married man and woman walking side by side and hand in hand. They walk in the same direction towards Christ.
In that image, we see friendship and love. In that image, we see partnership and a mutual self-giving of
each to the other. In that image, we see a nurturing of the two as one, watered by grace through the sacraments of the Church. This image is not far from what the Church teaches us. Be subordinate to one another
out of reverence for Christ (Ephesians 5:21).
The scriptures Wives be submissive to their husbands as to the Lord (Ephesians 5:22) and Husbands,
love your wives, even as Christ loved the church and handed himself over for her (Ephesians 5:25) create a
balance of mutual submission.
In the partnership of a married man and woman (Canon Law 1055 1, 1057 2), friendship blossoms as
each spouse learns to move in a unique complementary way of giving and receiving, keeping in mind the good
of the other (CCC #2333). As in a tango, marriage becomes a set of beautiful movements.
