[Survey Participants]
This survey was open to anyone between the ages of
18 and 60 who has somehow been affected by
cancer (whether he/she has been diagnosed or a
family member has been diagnosed with cancer). I
decided on this age and experience criteria because
it was feasible in terms of who I could reach out to
through my available means (social networks, family
connections etc.). Also, my participants pool would
give me the most relevant information pertaining to
human efficacy in lowering the risk for cancer
through a healthy lifestyle.

[Survey Method]
The survey was conducted through Google Forms
and a total of 58 people took the survey.

[Purpose of Survey]
The purpose of this survey is to gather
information on people affected by cancer of
all age groups in relation to their dietary
habits and knowledge of cancer risk factors.
The results of this survey produce data that
gives firsthand insight into individuals daily
routines and how their schedules connect to
their familys probability of being affected
by cancer. The results also show the degree
of knowledge people possess on basic
characteristics of cancer and its greatest
risk factors.

People from ages 18-25 do not know as

many people with cancer as older age
groups.
Adults between the ages of 50-60 know
of the most types of cancer.
At least 90% of the people I survey have
been affected by cancer (whether it be
personally affected or witnessed family
members being diagnosed with the
disease).

[Results/Data]

Out of the participants of my survey, 21 are 18-25 years

old, 11 are 26-34 years old, 7 are 35-40 years old, 11 are
41-49 years old, and 8 are 50-60 years old. Most of the
survey takers have never been diagnosed with cancer but
have family members that have been diagnosed with
cancer (the most prevalent forms being breast cancer
and lung cancer). Although most of the people know at
least 1 type of cancer, 8.6% of them (5 people) still had
no prior knowledge of different types of cancer. A total of
80.9% of the survey takers eat a healthy meal at least
three times a week, and 77.6% of participants know that
one of the greatest risks for cancer is tobacco use.
[Summary/Conclusion]
At least 90% of the people surveyed and their families
have been impacted by cancer and are familiar with
different types of cancer. An average of 50% of
participants also know of either imaging scans, CT scans,
MRIs, or ultrasounds, demonstrating that although
people are exposed to the importance of cancer
screening, more education about cancer detection is
needed in society. 77.6% of the survey takers have not
personally been affected by cancer and are aware of
tobacco use as a cancer risk factor, which in relation to
the data that 80.9% of the people eat a balanced meal at
least three times a week, demonstrates the positive
cause-and-effect of a healthy lifestyle. After examining
individual survey answers one at a time, my hypothesis
that elders have the most experience and knowledge
with/of cancer is also correct. Overall, these results will
help me in showing the impact of cancer awareness on
health and personal incentives to live healthier in my
final product and presentation.
