NEW MEMBER
In an effort to spur membership growth, the Board of Directors spearheaded the formation of a special ad hoc membership
committee in December 2015, chaired by Board member Teresa Casey. The good news: their efforts paid off and we took
in 18 new members between January and July! The not-so-good news: natural attrition and resignations due to illness,
death, relocation and other changes in circumstances have translated into a net loss of members thus far this year.
The bottom line is revenue from membership fees is necessary to meet operating expenses. Though the clubs staff has
done wonders to economize and reduce costs, many line items remain fixed or are rising. One such cost is the $20,000+
school tax bill. Thanks to the Tax Fund, we were able to pay that on time by the end of September this year. In addition to
monthly membership fees, usage revenue is also essential. Most of our food, beverage and party business occurs between
December and June. The revenues from those months help float the club during the quieter months of July through November. Between the taxes and the annual slowdown in business there is little left in the coffers for end of year operating
expenses.
At our current level of membership, the Board finds it necessary to implement a $225 assessment, split into three installments of $75 each during November, December and January to meet our year-end financial obligations. This is the third
time we have had to implement a year end assessment to cover expenses and in anticipation that this will happen again at
the end of 2017 it has been determined that we will need to increase the monthly membership fees by $20.00 starting in
February. There has not been an increase in monthly fees in almost 10 years. We hope you understand the necessity of
these steps and that neither was undertaken lightly or without deliberation.
Thank you for your continued loyalty and support .
