Fly-by-wire Control Laws for LCA

ELS for CLAW Design

CSIR-NAL has led the national team effort to design, develop and certify the fly-by-wire flight control laws and airdata
algorithms for Tejas.
It is to the credit of this team that the flight test programme for TEJAS has today successfully completed a total of over
2400 flights, carried out on 14 different prototypes by 17 test pilots over a continuously expanding flight envelope meeting the
IOC 2 requirements in full.

An Aircraft out of Foam and Fibre foundation for CSIR- NAL to build light aircraft

In 1983-84, CSIR-NAL started a project

to fabricate an all-composite aircraft using
a kit bought from the Rutan Aicraft
Company in USA.

The project, led by the indefatigable Prof R

B Damania, gave CSIR-NAL teams very
valuable insights into building airworthy
composite structures.

The aircraft, called the Light Canard

Research Aircraft (LCRA), was ready by the
end of 1986. The LCRA, with Wg Cdr
Askoka, HALs Chief Test Pilot at the
controls, made its maiden flight on
26 February 1987.

After
the
LCRA
success,
CSIR-NAL
seriously started the preparatory work to
design and build a light aircraft.
