Becoming familiar with the kitchen and the daycare

centre.

Skills and
knowledge
acquired

The first day at Goodstart I became familiar with

housekeeping issues such as knowing where things
are kept and the routine of meals etc. I learnt that
morning teas are at the same time for both the
toddlers room and the other children, however lunch
is at different times as the toddlers get tired earlier.

consider these factors when completing a prototype.

On my second visit I helped to prepare morning tea,

which was a savoury platter. The savoury platter
included cut up tomatoes, cucumber, cheese and
some sultanas. I noticed that there was not meat on
the platter (like you usually have on an adult platter
e.g. bits of ham or cabanossi) and I was made aware
that a majority of the children couldnt eat meat due
to religious reasons.

made me think about alternatives for meat.

While observing the children eat, I noticed that most

of the children eat all of their food. Some children
went back for seconds. This will impact on my
outcome as it indicates that some students are
either more active, taller bigger therefore need more
energy through food.

Skills and

When I went into the internship there was left over

meat sauce from pasta the day before. Instead of it
going to waste, we changed the set menu around so
that we cooked something with a meat sauce. We
swapped the chicken stir fry for the chilli con carne
so that we could use the sauce instead of it going to
waste.
