Derby shoes (Gibson)


This is usually a low heel,
four or five eyelet lace-up
style. The front part of the
quarters, called the tabs, are
apart and stitched on to the
vamp. The shoe is plain
fronted and may have a toe
cap or mock stitched toe cap
or an apron front.

Oxford shoes
In this style the front edges of
the quarters are stitched under
the edge of the vamp close
together. The tabs are those
fixed at the bottom and open to
the top in the shape of a V.
It is usually fitted with four or
five eyelets and a toe cap.

Brogue style
A shoe where the edge of
the separate parts of the
upper are decorated with
bold punching and gimping.

Monk shoe
This shoe is similar to Gibson in that the tabs on the
quarters are apart and stitched on to the vamp, but
instead of having eyelets and laces there is a strap across
the instep fastened by a buckle.

A court shoe has no adjustable fastening, but it can
have a decorate strap, bar, elastic gusset trip. Courts are
not normally flat-heeled.

A slingback is a court shoe with a strap around the rear.

Mule
A shoe, slipper or sandal without quarters, It may be
held on by a high or low cut vamp, with or without toes
exposed. Mules can be flat or have a heel or wedge.
They are mainly for women.

Desert boots
These boots were based on the South Africa. Often being bought
by soldiers for use in the various bush wars of the region they
have become popular across the world as "desert boots. These
always have crepe rubber soles and they typically have suede
uppers. Desert boots were popularized in the 1950s by UK shoe
company C. & J. Clarks.

Wallabees
Produced by Clarks from 1967 and based on a moccasin
called the Grashopper. These normally have crepe
rubber soles and suede uppers. In 1968 was trademarked
the name as Wallabee.

Mary Jane shoes ()


With a single strap across the vamp, round toe, and
short cuban heel. It is very cute and gives a doll look,
quite comfortable too.

Gillie shoes ()
A shoe without a tongue and with decorative lacing up the instep.
Ghillies are specially designed shoes used for several types of
dance. They are soft shoes, similar to ballet shoes. They are used
by women in Irish dance, by men in Scottish country dance, and
by men and women in Highland dance. They are almost always
black..

Chelsea boots ( )
A plain-fronted boot with an elastic gusset. The height
of the boot is normally slightly higher than the Chukka
boot.

Chukka boot ()
A boot with Gibson style of fastening, with two or three
pairs of eyelets. The quarters are at ankle height or
slightly above. The style with a suede upper maybe
called desert boot.
