General educational objectives


Upon completion of the study of the subject the student should be
able to:1. Know the general Engg properties of soils and classify the soils as per I
S and other methods.
2. Understand the stress distribution on soil mass.
3. Understand the procedures for determining the shear strength of soils.
4. Understand Theories of earth pressure.
5. Understand the consolidation theory and settlement analysis.
6. Understand the methods of evaluating the bearing capacity.
7. Understand the methods of soil investigations and sampling
techniques.
8. Understand the design principles of shallow and deep foundation.
