Mathematics Lesson Plan

TOPIC/FOCUS:
Chapter 9 Geometric Reasoning
YEAR LEVEL & SUBJECT:
Year 9: Mathematics
Victorian Curriculum Connection:
Level 7:

DATE:
Thursday 25th of August
LESSON DURATION:
1 hour

Demonstrate that the angle sum of a triangle is 180 and use this to find the angle sum of a
quadrilateral(VCMMG263)

Level 8:
Develop the conditions for congruence of triangles(VCMMG292)

Level 9:
Use the enlargement transformation to explain similarity and develop the conditions for triangles to be
similar (VCMMG316)

Level 10:
Formulate proofs involving congruent triangles and angle properties (VCMMG344)

LEARNING INTENTION
We are learning to:
- Identify the angle sum of a triangle, and apply this knowledge to
quadrilaterals
- Solve problems using congruent figures
- Establish the conditions for similarity of two triangles and comparing this to
the conditions of congruence
- Apply an understanding of relationships to deduce properties of geometric
reasoning
SUCCESS CRITERIA
- Calculate the angle sum of any 4 or more sided shape
- Conditions for congruency are developed and can be applied to a range of
triangles
- Calculate and formulate proof of congruency among triangles
