Calculation Static Equivalent Force by Indonesian code

(SNI 1726-2012)
1.1 Equation for Total Design Base Shear Force By Indonesian Code
The regulation of Indonesian code gives equation to obtain total design base shear by equation 1 :
(1)

V =Cs . WT

Where V is the total design base shear force, Cs is the shear coefficient, and WT is the total weight of
building on the base floor.
The regulation of Indonesian code gives equation to obtain shear coefficient by equation 2 :

Cs=

SDS Ie
R

(2)

Where SDS is Seismic design spectrum, Ie is Seismic Importance Factor and R is coefficient
modification response. According to the function of building as an office the value of Ie is 1 and
according to kind of structure as special moment frame the value of R is 8.

1.2 Equataions for Calculation Distribution of Base Shears to Stories

The calculation distribution of base shear force can be obtained equations 3,4 and 5 :
(3)

Fx=Cvx V

Cvx=

wx hx k
n

wi hik
Vx=
i=1 Fx

(4)
(5)

Where Fx is story force, Vx is story shear, Cvx is coefficient distribution of story force, and the
exponent k varies related to the structure period, for the structures having period less than or equal
0.5, k is 1.0. For the structures having the period greater than 2.5, k is 2.0 and for the structure having
the period between 0.5 and 2.5, k should be determined by linear interpolation. For the structures
having maximum stories smaller than 12 stories, the coefficient of time period can be calculated by
below equation :

Ta=0,1 N
Where Ta is coefficient time period and N is number of stories

1.3 Equation for Calculation Spectrum Design Short Period (Sds)

To determine the general design response spectrum with 5% damping, the 5% damped design spectral
response acceleration at short periods, SDS, is determined by below equation :

S DS

2
S MS
3

S MS Fa S S
The values of Fa is defined by the local soil condition, where Fa is a site coefficient for short period

response SMS is the 5% damped spectral response acceleration of MCE at short periods and Ss is
mapped spectral response acceleration at short period (MCE ground motion).
1.4 Design Spectral Response Acceleration of Padang City
the design spectral response acceleration of Padang city with Soft Soil (Site Class E) soil condition
can be represented by figure 1 :

Figure.1 Design spectral response acceleration of Padang City

(5% Damping, Soft Soil: Site Class E)
The design response spectrum can be obtained from official website Response Spectrum Indonesia
(http://puskim.pu.go.id/Aplikasi/desain_spektra_indonesia_2011/), in the website, input name of city
or coordinate of location and soil condition are needed. The result of response spectrum can directly
appear on the website. The data of result of response spectrum padang city based on the result of
official website can be represented by following with these lists :
1. Peak ground acceleration (PGA) is 0.515g (5.05215 m/dt )
2. Mapped spectral response acceleration at short period (Ss) is 1.398g (13.71438m/dt)
3. Site coefficient corresponding to short period (Fa) is 1
4. Spectral coefficient at short period (SMS MCE ground motion) is 0.9g (8.829 m/dt)
5. Spectral coefficient at short period (SDS DBE ground motion) is 0.9g (8.829 m/dt)

1.5 Calculation Story shear and story force

To calculation of story shear and stroy force is needed to make a calculation for the total design base
shear and calculation coefficient time period. In this building calculation time period and design base
shear can be showed by below :
Fundamental period

= 0.1 x 12 stories
= 1.2 Second

Total design base shear = Cs x WT

= ( 0.9 g x 1 )/8.5 x 131552 Kn
= 13796.52 Kn
k

= (((1.2-1)/(2.5-1))*1) + 1.0
= 1.1

The calculation of distribution of total design base shear can be represented by table 1 :

In the twelveth level story force is smaller than story force in the eleventh because total weight in
twelfth level is smaller than the eleventh level.
