ABSTRACT

The research on the pineapple as an effective stain remover on clothes. It

aimed to produce stain remover out of a cheaper material and a natural product
that can be found at home as a substitute to a commercial stain remover.
The product is effective and natural than the other brands of a stain remover for
clothes.
To produce the pineapple as stain remover for clothes, the researchers
first gathered all the materials and equipments needed for the study. The
preparation was to produce an effective stain remover for clothes.
that the experimental pineapple as stain remover for clothes is incomparable to
commercial stain remover in terms of its cleaning and cost acceptability.
Pineapple waste is a by-product of the pineapple processing industry and it
consists of residual pulp, peels and skin. These wastes can cause environmental
pollution if not utilized.
Pineapple (Ananas comosus) is a fruit which was classified as a ripe and
unripe. This was usually grown in a place where temperature and the weather
are cold. The researchers conducted the study on Pineapple and Baking Soda as
a stain remover. The researchers gathered all information about the said study.
The researchers therefore conclude that Pineapple (Ananas comosus) combined
with baking soda as an alternative stain remover is efective, though it still needs
a little scrubbing before some stains disappear. Pineapple contained moderate
oxalic acid. The researchers have observed that the cloth can become cleaner
or the stain can disappear completely if it is scrubbed like the way everyone
scrubs their laundry clothes.
Based on the specific findings, even though the home-made stain remover
is comparable to the product sell in the market even though it has some more
implication.

KEYWORDS: Pineapple juice, Baking Soda.

CHAPTER 1- INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Pineapple (Ananas comosus) usually grows in a place where temperature

and the weather are cold. This is abundant in the Philippines particularly in
Bukidnon and this can be brought in the grocery or in the market. This fruit grows
from 1-1.5 meters tall with 30 more through shape and pointed that grow from
30-100 centimeters long surrounding a thick stem.

Pineapple wastes such as Pineapple peels and skin can cause

environmental pollution if not utilized. Recently there are investigations/studies
carried out on how to utilize these waste thats why we turn to a practical use of
the Pineapple peeling as stain remover. We observe that people who cant afford
commercialized stain remover use vinegar as alternative. And mostly of the
vinegar are made up in coconut, apple and etc. We want to find out if pineapple
peeling extract combined with baking soda is effective as stain remover. Thats
why the researchers come up with this project/ experiment.

Statement of the Problem / Objectives

General Objectives

-Make an alternative stain remover

Specific Objectives
1. To prove the effectiveness of the Pineapple Peeling as a stain
remover
2. Compare the commercial product between the homemade product
in terms of:
a. Effectiveness
b. General Acceptability
3. To know how long, the duration is for the stain to be removed.

Hypothesis
Ho: There is no significant difference between the homemade stain
remover and the commercial stain remover.
Ha: There is a significant difference between the homemade stain
remover and the commercial stain remover.
Significance of the Study
The importance of this study is to substitute commercial stain remover to
an alternative stain remover that can be made using natural products.
We conducted this study so that it will not take much time to remove stains
on the clothes and so people will not spend too much on expensive stuffs that
are not effective.

Through this study, the public will be informed about the effectiveness of
pineapple and baking soda as a stain remover.

Scope and Limitation

This study focuses on the making of a stain remover out of a pineapple
juice and baking soda. It encompasses the procedures of making use of
something that can be thrown away, but could still be utilize. This study would be
more comprehensive and meaningful if it covers all kinds of stains to know if
pineapple juice can remove a lot of stains. The researchers started conducting
this science investigatory project on July 2016 in Ponays Residence, Brgy.
Munoz, Catbalogan City.

Definition of terms
1. Pineapple- (Ananas comosus) is a tropical plant with edible multiple
fruit consisting of coalesced berries, also called pineapples, and the most
economically significant plant in the Bromeliaceae family
-pineapple acts as an effective stain remover. Is one of the component
that is high in oxalic acid that can really remove stain.
7

2. Baking soda- Sodium bicarbonate (IUPAC name: sodium hydrogen

carbonate) is a chemical compound with the formula NaHCO3. It is a salt
composed of sodium ions and bicarbonate ions. Sodium bicarbonate is a
white solid that is crystalline but often appears as a fine powder. It has a
slightly salty, alkaline taste resembling that of washing soda (sodium

Related Literature
Pineapple (Ananas comosus) is the common name for an edible plant also
its fruit.
It is native to the southern part of Brazil and Paraguay. This herbaceous
plant which grows from 1-1.5 meters with 30 more through shape and pointed
leaves 30-100 cm long surrounding a thick stem. The pineapple is an example of
a multiple, spirally arranged along the axis each procedure a freshly fruit that
10

becomes pressed against the fruits of adjacent flowers, forming what appears to
be a single fleshly fruit.
A stain is a discoloration that can be clearly distinguished from the
surface, material, or medium it is found upon. They are caused by the chemical
or physical interaction of two dissimilar materials. Staining is used for
biochemical research, metal staining, and art (e.g., wood staining, stained
glass). (https://www.google.com.ph/#q=stain+)

ANALYSIS OF DATA
The Vanilla Extract at the fastest stain diminished time out of all. At the
instant that it met with the pineapple, the stain was remarkably less visible. It
didnt take 2 minutes for the stain to disappear. The rest of the stains left a mark
after 3 minutes. Some, like the hot chocolate and ketchup, left a clear mark but it
disappeared when the researchers scrubbed it.

The researchers have observed that the cloth can become cleaner or the
stain can disappear completely if it is scrubbed like the way everyone scrubs
their laundry clothes.

CHAPTER 5- SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATION

SUMMARY
The researchers conducted the study on Pineapple and Baking Soda as a
stain remover. The researchers gathered all information about the said study. On
17

July the researchers started to conduct the study, started to have the brain
storming and gathering informations. The researchers tested different trials in
testing if the combined mixture is effective. The trial of the mixture did it work in
removing the stains.

CONCLUSION
The researchers therefore conclude that Pineapple (Ananas comosus)
combined with baking soda as an alternative stain remover, though it still needs a
little scrubbing before some stains disappear. Pineapple contained moderate
oxalic acid.

RECOMMENDATION
Based on the specific findings, even though the home-made stain remover
is comparable to the product sell in the market even though it has some more
implication. The researchers suggest that other fruit extract may be tested as
ingredient for making alternative stain remover. An additional steps or procedure

18

can be devised to improve the effectiveness of the stain remover and for the
improvement of the product.
To further improve the study, the researchers recommends the following:
1. The researchers study is effective to the people who are finding solution in
removing stains naturally.
2. Using pineapple and baking soda may not be like the other expensive
products but this can also be considered as one of the efficient method for
the prevention of stain.
3. It is further recommended that a similar study be conducted using other
materials in preventing stain.
4. More test should be done to obtain more accurate results.
