The State of emergency help assert peace and tranquility,
according to minster of the office of government communication
affairs.
Minster Getachew Reda made the remark at a press conference
held today with local and international media correspondents.
The minister said the state of emergency has helped put under
control the recent havoc ensued in some parts of the nation and
enabled citizens lead their ordinary lives without fear.
He also said the investment endeavors that were interrupted
during the time of the chaos have now been reactivated.
He also stressed that the recent with drawl of the Ethiopian
forces from few parts of Somalia has nothing to do with the
declaration of the state of emergency here in Ethiopia.
Minster getachew also on the occasion asserted that Ethiopia is
always commited to peace and stability in Somalia.//

2-Ethiopia sprints ahead from 103rd to 66th largest economy in


the world
According to a report in the Financial Times, in 2020, Ethiopia
is set to be the 66th world largest economy, up from 103rd in
2005, overtaking countries like Kenya, Guatemala, and
Bulgaria.
Ethiopia's economy has been expanding at an average annual
rate of 10 per cent in the 12 years to 2016 and growth is
expected to remain strong in the years ahead, supported by
higher agricultural production, and large public sector and
foreign direct investment, the report added.//

4-Self-supply water technology benefited households in


Southern Ethiopia
The rope pump project for rural water supply, which has been
implemented in Southern Ethiopia said to be effective in
improving water supply, sanitation and livelihood.
The rope pump project has been implementing in 200
households in four woredas in Southern Nations, Nationalities
and Peoples state in collaboration with JICA.
SNNP state regional coordinator for water and irrigation, Kassu
Eshete said the households have benefited from the project.
The households have benefited not only from clean water, it also
allowed them to benefit from livestock rearing and irrigation due
to accessibility of water, he added.
According to him, more than 10,000 rope pumps and 135
manually operating drills, which cost over 30 million Birr has
been distributed by the regional government in the area.//

Somalias Federal Indirect Electoral Implementation Team
(FIEIT) announced that it will adhere strictly to its announced
timetable for the selection of representatives to the countrys
Lower House.
FIEIT Chairman Mohamed Abdulle said registration of aspirants
vying for parliamentary seats is underway, with stiff competition
given the high number of aspirants.

7-EA to train Nigerians
Ethiopian Airlines says it plans to hire Nigeria pilots for its
growing fleet of B777, B787, B737 and Dash 8 Q-400 aircraft,
and train more Nigerians in its aviation academy.
The Ethiopian Airlines Country Area Manager, Solomon
Begashaw, at a ceremony held in Lagos to mark the carriers
70th anniversary, said the airline had always served Nigeria with
the best aircraft such as A350, B787 Dreamliner and the B777
wide body.
He also said that despite the economic crisis facing nigeria, the
airline had no plans of leaving and would continue its
operations.
He added that as part of the celebration to mark its 70 years of
existence, the airline was offering free tickets to Nigerians who
liked Ethiopian Airlines the Nigeria Facebook page.//
