Introduction
This Technical Architecture document describes the hardware and software
requirements needed to successfully teach the course module stated above. This
means the hardware and application software system described in this document
will provide the required infrastructure on which to run the course module in
Oracle University.
This is a technical document prepared by a curriculum developer. Its intended
audience is technical personnel within Oracle University and Global ITs Education
Support Services division, who should review its contents to ensure it falls within
their policies for the purchase of IT equipment and is appropriate for teaching, and
integrated, where required with the current technical architecture. The personnel
responsible for the design and build of the technical environment should read this
document as it describes the systems on which they will deploy and run the new
course module.

Architectural Assumptions
The following assumptions have been made that will affect the preparation of the
Technical Architecture.
Assumption:
The environment setup described is to be run in the education centers at Oracle
Corporation.
Impact:
This ensures that the environment can be tested with know hardware/software,
and limitations can be specified based on the identified hardware/software.

Network Structure
The table below describes the networks that are to be used by the new application.

linked to, taken from the network
structure above.

System Component Configuration

The tables below describe the configuration of each of the components of the
system. The contents of this list vary depending on the type of system component
being described.
Education PCs (Education Centers)
Dell Optiplex 266mhz processor
128 MB RAM
1-2 GB available user disk space
17" SVGA monitors
The instructor workstation is identical except for the addition of a CD ROM drive.
Application Servers (Data Center)
Model: 16-slot Sun Enterprise E6500
CPU's: 12
CPU Speed: 336 MHz
Total Physical RAM: 12288 MB
Total System Drive Capacity: 203,946,091,000 bytes
Application Servers (Oracle Plaza)
Model: Various Sun Enterprise servers
CPU's: ranging from 1 to 4
CPU Speed: ranging from 248 to 336 MHz
Total Physical RAM: Ranging from 256Mb to 4 Gb
Total System Drive Capacity: ranging from 1024 Mega bytes to 124 Giga
bytes

Software Environments
The list below describes the environments that are available on the various
machines within the system to support the different ways the system will be used.
The production environment is where the application runs, test is where updates
and amendments to the application are tested and development is where the
application is developed.
Education PCs (Education Centers)
Windows NT 4.0 w/Service Pack 5
Microsoft Office 95 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Microsoft Office 97 Viewers
Netscape Navigator 4.61
Oracle Client 8.1.5 installation (including SQL*Plus and NET8)
Winzip 7.0
FTP software (Smart Term 1.0 and OnNet Host Suite 4.0)
ADI 6.0.2
WorkFlow 2.5
Acrobat Reader 3.02
Jinitiator 1.1.7.27
Jinitiator 1.1.7.18

Application Servers (Data Center)

The E6500 houses several separate Vision instances,
including corresponding sets of concurrent managers
however these instances share the web and forms server
currently housed on the same machine. This server
architecture allows for the maximum number of installed
database instances, while providing high levels of
performance optimization, patching/version control, and
stability.

Application Servers (Oracle Plaza)

These servers house several separate vertical LOB instances,
including corresponding sets of concurrent managers
however these instances share the web and forms server
currently housed on the same machine. This server
architecture allows for the maximum number of installed
database instances, while providing high levels of
performance optimization, patching/version control, and
stability.

Oracle University Vision Demo

The ADS VISION demo in Oracle University
The VISION demo environment is used to teach the most current release of core Oracle Applications. Due
to the ongoing release of new Oracle products ESS may not have the patch level or latest release from ADS
available in the OU education centers. After the initial release of version 11.5.1 in early June ESS will only
upgrade the version from ADS on an as needed basis only and the READY team in conjunction with ESS
will determine this need.
The VISION demo includes only the core Oracle Applications. If other products (including Oracle products)
are required for a specific course this should be documented and submitted to the READY team and ESS.
They will evaluate this request and if it is deemed appropriate have the software installed.
Access to this training environment is restricted to web access only. If a course requires additional access or
privileges this should be documented and submitted as well.

Data in the Oracle University VISION demo

The ESS data center instances do not support "Data" customization. That is, you CAN add data into Vision
to further tailor your class however these changes will not be archived for future use. If you believe that
certain data needs to be included in the demo please submit a request for the data with the READY team and
they will evaluate the need and if appropriate will attempt to get the data added. All appropriate and
required seed data should be available for all courses without the need to add additional data.

Patching in Oracle University VISION

Post-release patches and updates are required to keep the demo environments current. However ESS in
general will not be applying patches but retrieving updates from the ADS group. ADS will be applying
weekly patch sets to their instances and if appropriate ESS will take a new cut from ADS to include the patch
in the ESS environment.
