B Objectives
1. What is the main purpose for this course?
This course designed to:
Provide students with the basic physics of units & measurements, dimensional
analysis of physical quantities, rotational motion, rigid body kinematics, fluid flow,
sound waves, electrical & magnetic forces and basics of light optics
Acquaint students with sufficient knowledge and understanding of physics behind
various phenomena and scientific/Engineering applications
Enhance the students mathematical ability in simple derivation and manipulation
of physical formulae.
Develop the students problem-solving skills in related fields of physics
Prepare students to gain basic skills of lab measurements, recording, data analysis
and reporting
2. Briefly describe any plans for developing and improving the course that are being implemented. (e.g.
increased use of IT or web based reference material, changes in content as a result of new research in
the field)
C. Course Description:
The course is designed to prepare students majoring in the engineering and science for upper
division course work in their respective fields. It provides students with the basic knowledge and
understanding of various principles of related physical quantifies and develops problem-solving
skills. It deals with physics of units & measurements, rotational motion, elasticity of solids, fluid
flow, heat &temperature, sound waves, electricity& electric fields, magnetic forces and
preliminary introduction to light and optics. A related lab course is provided acquaint students
with basic skills of lab measurement, recording and data analysis.
