Dear all,
In recognition of the growing significance of science and mathematics in our daily life, also in
the hopes of encouraging young students to embrace science and math from an early age, and
with the aim of enhancing the development of international contacts amongst countries
within the Asian region in the field of primary school education, I would like to inform you
about the Asian Science and Mathematics Olympiad for Primary Schools (ASMOPS), a fairly
new competition that was initiated and launched successfully in November 2011. The 2nd
ASMOPS was held November 4-8, 2012 at BSD City in Tangerang, Indonesia, hosted by
Surya Institute. The 3rd ASMOPS was held November 9-14, 2013, in Bandung, West Java,
Indonesia, hosted by Surya Institute. The 4th ASMOPS was held November 8-12, 2014, in
Serang, Banten, Indonesia, hosted by Surya Institute. The 5th ASMOPS was held November
21-25, 2015, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, hosted by Olympic Edu Sdn Bhd.
It is our dream that ASMOPS will become another opportunity to increase the number of
young people to love and enjoy math and science from an early age, and create a healthy sense
of competition and comradeship worldwide amongst our brightest younger generation of
future scientists and mathematicians.
We would like to invite you and your students to join the6th ASMOPS and represent your
country, which will be held on November 25-29, 2016 in Tangerang, Indonesia.
For registration and all questions regarding Philippine participation, please contact ASMOPS
Philippine-Coordinator, Rechilda P. Villame, at any of the following:
email address: rechievillame@yahoo.com or cellphone number: (+63)9175507413.
Thank you for your interest in ASMOPS and I look forward to the registration of your team

Participants:
1. Group division participation is determined by age.
The age of each participant of the competition should not exceed 13 (thirteen) on
October 31st, 2016.
2. Team participation representation.
A team can participate as a country, a region, a city or as an educational institution such
as a school. Each participating country may send a maximum of 4 (four) teams.
3. Team members.
Each team consists of 4 (four) students. 2 (two) students represent the science team and
2 (two) others represent the mathematics team. In addition to the students, 1 (one)
accompanying person is invited from each country, one of whom is designated
delegation head (Team Leader responsible for whole delegation).
Competition Execution:
The competition is conducted for two days, one for the individual competition and one for the
team competition. The Individual Competition consists of short answer questions, multiple
choice questions and long answer questions. Each student chooses either Mathematics or
Science problems. The Team Competition consists of Science Experiment Problems,
Mathematics Exploration Problems, and mixed Science and mathematics Investigation. The
time allotted for solving the problem should not be more 3.5 (three and half) hours for each
day.
The number of theoretical problems will be 20 (twenty) multiple choice and/or short answer
problems, and 8-10 (eight to ten) long answer problems. There are at least 2 (two) Science
Experiment problems, 3 (three) Mathematics Exploration problems (Mathematics), and 1 (one)
mixed Science and mathematics Investigation.
When solving the experiment/exploration problems the contestants may make use of
nonprogrammable pocket calculators. These aids will be brought by the student themselves.
The problems are constructed based on elementary school math and science curriculum (see
below for the list of possible topics) which test logic, reasoning, and creative problem solving
abilities.
The working language of ASMOPS is English and the host country language. The competition
will be conducted in English and the host country language.
Evaluation and Awards:
The total number of marks awarded for the Individual Competition should be 40 (forty) points
for short answer/multiple choice questions and 60 (sixty) points for long answer problems.
The marks awarded for the Team Competition should be 10 (ten) points for each problem. The
competition organizer shall determine how the marks are allocated within each examination.
The Organizing Committee establishes minima (expressed in points) for Gold Medals, Silver
Medals, Bronze Medals and Honorable Mentions. The participant who obtains the highest score
will receive a special award.
