AND SKILLS RELATING TO WOUND MANAGEMENT?
Wound care is constantly witnessing the development of new, innovative techniques and treatments.
Not only has this resulted in a surge in new dressing materials, but also in the development of new
therapeutic approaches including growth factors, use of skin substitutes and stem cell therapy.

WHY TAKE THIS

COURSE/MODULE?
This short, intense, four-day course/module will
provide you with the science behind wound
innovations and their clinical effectiveness.
Throughout the four days you will review the
aetiology and pathophysiology of chronic

wounds, current wound treatments and their

advantages and disadvantages.
This course is being offered by Swansea
University and jointly coordinated by the Welsh
Wound Innovation Centre. Applicants can choose
which days they would like to attend, or can
attend all 4 days, as stand-alone or part of a
Masters module. Course fees are 106.25 per
day, with the full, four-day course costing 425.

Tuesday 14th June 2016
The physiology, pathophysiology and aetiology
of chronic wounds
Thursday 23rd June 2016
Wound debridement - innovations in the
assessment and management of wound
debridement
Tuesday 28th June 2016
Wound infection - new innovations in the
recognition and diagnosis of wound infection.
Understanding biofilm, and new treatments in the
fight against chronic wound infections
Tuesday 12th July 2016
Wound healing - a review of new and innovative
techniques and therapies specifically developed
to aid wound healing and hasten wound
progress to maturation.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS

COURSE/MODULE?
This course/module is suitable for all Health
Care Practitioners. Although designed for wound
care practitioners, including specialist nurses
(tissue viability, burns nurses, podiatrists, practice
nurses, district and community nurses, general
practitioners) it may be accessed by anyone
involved or with an interest in wound care.
The course will be taught from an independent
academic platform, by a range of academic and
clinical experts from Swansea and across the UK.
There will also be an exhibition on each day,
displaying the latest innovations in wound care.
