Teaching Instructional
Strategies:
Direct Instruction

Outcomes:
PE4.10 Apply tactics, strategies, and
rules necessary for safe and inclusive
involvement in movement activities,
including but not limited to cooperative and competitive lead-up
games as well as alternate
environment activities, when alone
and with others.

Indicators:
b. Work productively and
respectfully with others in achieving
a common group goal while
participating in movement
activities.
d. Demonstrate correct and
respectful application of rules and
procedures when participating in a
variety of games and alternate
environment activities.

Prerequisite Learning:
Adaptive Dimension:
Variation 1: Have more hoola hoops set up around the gym with fewer
amounts of partners.
Variation 2: Instead of running from hoola hoop to hoola hoop, instruct the
students to choose a different pathway like side shuffling, skipping, hoping,
galloping, etc.
Variation 3: If the gym is too small for all students to play the game at one
time, I will split the class into two groups.
Group 1 plays while group 2 rests.
Group 2 plays while group 1 rests.
Materials Needed/Preparation
- Hoola Hoops
- Bean bags
- Stop watch/Timer

Presentation:
Set: (10 minutes)
Pre-Run Dynamic Stretches: We will do these
dynamic stretches lined up across the gym, as
class. I will explain and demonstrate each
stretch as we go.
1. Butt kickers
2. High knees
3. Hip flexors (Hips inward)
4. Hip flexors (Hips outward)
5. Toe swipes
6. Quad stretch grabbing heel
7. Kneed hugs
8. Toe touches
I will then allow the students to find their own
space and do 2 minutes of individual stretching
as I set up the equipment.
Development: (20 minutes)
The gym will be set up with a hoola hoop in each
corner with 6-10 beanbags (can add or take
away as you see fit per round). The students will
be split into 4 groups of 6.
Activity:
You will want to steal as many bean bags as you
can and bring them back to your hoola hoop.
The team with the most beanbags after the time
is up with win.
The rules:
You can only grab one beanbag at a time;
after you have one beanbag you must
drop it off in your own hoola hoop.
You cannot go to the same hoola hoop two
times in a row.
You cannot guard your hoola hoop.
Beanbags cannot be thrown to the hoop;
you must run it all the way to your home
base.
*Remind students to be aware of space and to
always look in the direction they are running.
*Ask the students if they understand the
instructions by giving a thumbs up, thumb in
middle, or thumbs down

Teaching Notes:
If we have extra time at
the end of the period, the
students will play a quick
game of 4 corners.

Closure:
Cool down: Students will
help with clean up and
walk around the gym to
cool themselves down
