SECTION 13 BASIC FAULT FINDING

In case of troubles if you need to contact Geoservices Hotline in LBM ,always
mentioned the serial number of GFF and the Software version.
Caution : Never disconnect panel PCBs with the Power ON, because it can destroy the
electronic system.

13.1. Quick Lock Connectors

In case of pressure drops, check at first for the possible leak. Verify all connection
between the Quick Lock connectors and the tubes (internal and external).
For more details, please refer to the Section 11 Maintenance, page 11-3

13.2. Mollex Connectors

If you have electrical troubles which look like PCB failure (instable parameters,
temperature failure, communication bus interrupt), before changing the PCB, first
check that all your contacts Mollex are perfectly tight. To be sure, use a syringe
needle and close up the both side of the contact Mollex to the wire (see the following
figure)

13.4. Communication with the RTM

Please refer to the Section 10 Software, 10.1. to check the Serial Port Speed.
And please refer to the Section 6 GFF Installation, 6.6. to check the configuration
settings with the RTM.

13.5. FID Thermal Fuse

In case of FID temperature failure, check the continuity of the heating element and
fuse.
In case of a broken FID Thermal Fuse, there is a replacement kit available, order
code: 700 BL 734

13.6. CHR Pneumatic pre-adjustment troubles at Start-Up

If you have troubles to find again your CHR pneumatic pre-adjustment peaks and
windows, you should check the 3.50 bar air pressure regulator. Use only the
accurate air pressure regulator, order code: 700 BL 761.

13.7. Summary
Do not leave in place the manual injector tubing at all time (ball valve open).
It is possible to verify the hard disk system free space on the Settings screen,
press on More Info.
To prevent windows integration troubles due to chromato retention time instability,
it is recommended to work with the Autotracking function permanently activated.
When you want to print a report, go to playback screen and dont do this during
drilling operation. In fact, the print takes a very long time and the gas
chromatography is interrupted during the print. Any data files are saved during the
print.
To prevent any software screen freezing in Real Time screen, Playback screen or
Chromatographic screen: do your choice line by line and wait a few seconds
between each operations. A message appears at the left bottom of screen
"Drawing, please wait".
Total Gas Information screen zero offset adjustment: click on Update when the
GFF is completely clean and purged. Do not update zero when you are in
presence of gas.
If you detect an unidentified peak, it is possible that it is a pollution problem in the
gas circuit or in the air circuit of compressor. So, purge and decontaminate the
GFF (Oil, spray, contact cleaner...)
WARNING: The pump is not stopped by exiting the GFF application.
WARNING: Never exit GFF application when FID Cell coils are activated (Front
panel FID PCB, red led on) because the FID coils will stay permanently supplied
and will be burned and damaged.
If you only switch off the GFF while the GFF Computer is still running, you will
have red dotted lines on the screen. When you restart the GFF just after, you will
notice some disjointedness (like the cycle timer which stays permanently in red ).
This is completely normal. In fact you have to wait a complete cycle before having
a complete communication reset. Note that the Peltier cell can be blocked. To
restart cooling, you must return to the Settings Screen and re-enter the % power.
