Servus meine Kollegen!

We travel not to escape life, but life not to escape us. This is my life motto, please let me
introduce myself.
I wanted to try BEST events for a long time, but this year I finally dared to apply. My name is
Dario Vukovi and I come from a small town called Sisak, Croatia. Sisak is a lovely little
town located about 50 kilometers south-west from our capital Zagreb. I moved to Zagreb in
order to study electrical engineering. Currently, I'm on my fourth year at the Faculty of
Electrical Engineering and Computing, very BEST faculty in Croatia. I am a sociable person
and I've chosen to live in a dormitory which is tons of fun and partying. I can speak English
very well, but mine German isn't so good. I've been learning German for several years and
this course should be a great opportunity to improve my German by speaking to native
speakers .
In my free time I like to relax playing ninepins bowling (I think it's called Kegeln in your
country). Except for Kegeln I'm seriously into curling. Curling is a winter olympic sport not
very popular in Croatia. My coach gave the best explanation of curling, he said that curling is
a serious sport played by not so serious people :P. The universal energy drink of all curlers
around the world is beer. There is a custom that the winning team buys beer for the losing
team after the match. Last but not least is football. It's my first love, both playing it or
watching it. Mostly thanks to curling championships, I've traveled almost the whole central
Europe. I really like traveling, exploring new cities and cultures and especially tasting local
cuisine and (alcoholic) drinks.
There are many student associations in Croatia offering all kinds of students exchange
programmes. Some of my friends are members of BEST Zagreb and they have spread the
BEST spirit to me. BEST season courses are the ones that fit me the most. It's inexpensive,
easy to apply, doesn't last too long and the most important thing- I get to know future
engineers from all over the Europe interested in the same fields of study as me. Just thinking
about living, working, studying and partying hard with them for two weeks sounds like
probably the best two weeks in our lives. Who knows, maybe some of us are going to be
coworkers in a successful multinacional company in the future.
Why do I want to go to this BEST course? Well, there are couple of reasons. Firstly, I'm sure
everything is going to be organised perfectly, the German way . I support the idea of
Energiewende and I would like to learn more about renewable sources. At my faculty back
at home I've been working on a solar car project (we have made an old Opel Kadett go
electric) so this BEST course has interested me the most. I believe electric cars are the future
of transportation. Also, I'm a great beerlover and I'm really looking forward to tasting
domestic Franconian beer and sausages.
Thank you for reading my letter, I hope to see you in couple of months. Auf Wiedersehen,
Dario.

I think oil and gas fields in Croatia should be more exploited because we have necessary
refineries and pipelines. We would be more energy independent since we import most of the
gas we use for industry and heating. I also think that government should introduce measures
to help the companies which deal in with renewable sources. I think that water potential in
Croatia is well used, main proof to that is increase in amount of energy produced in hydro
powerplants in last couple of years.
