Week of October 31st

Happenings in

Our Learning
Reading: We are currently reading The Thing About
Georgie by Lisa Graff while strengthening our
inference skills and beyond the text
understanding. I continue to confer with students
during independent reading to choose an
appropriate focus skill with them.
Writing: Students polished up their book reviews after
we discussed and practiced editing: the last 10%
the tip of the iceberg. We focused on correct
grammar, punctuation, and capitalization after they
drafted, revised, and typed out each component.
Math: We reviewed multiplication and long division
this past week prior to students rocking their test
Thursday. The Superintendent visited our classroom
Wednesday and saw the students in action on the
iPads. It was really cool to hear each childs thought
process aloud as they recorded themselves solving
multiplication and division word problems on
SketchesPro then sharing with their peers. We also
learned how to labels points, lines, line segments,
and rays. Students worked to identify parallel,
intersecting, and perpendicular lines with a little
assistance from a catchy song.
Social Studies: Students learned about prehistoric
Native Americans in their Texas Study Weekly and
discussed their findings with a partner. Next week,
each student will work with a group to research a
specific tribe in Texas.
Science: We began our unit on weather by sharing
our wonderingsquestions that will drive our
exploration of weather. We took sketch notes as we
watched a segment about how weather forms.

Report Cards are in your childs
Friday Folder. My apologizes for not
sending them home in the
envelope! Please return your childs
RRISD Report Card signed on
Monday. In return, I will send home a
copy of the report.
Students did some Desk Division

arrange their new seating. They also

new teammates and other
classmates to strengthen their
connection among one another!
Check out my website for pictures
from this past week.

Practice at Home
TenMarks is a great website
where students can get practice
aligned with 4th grade standards.
Please encourage your child to
work on the optional assignments
and jam sessions.
Ask your child to identify parallel,
perpendicular, and intersecting
lines at home. How can they
prove the lines are parallel or
perpendicular?
