How will learning be assessed at the end of the unit/learning cycle (summative):
Students will post the main idea and key details of their book to the blog, and respond to two classmates. Using a
rubric, the teacher will assess whether or not the student was able to identify the main idea and key details of
their book, and respond to their classmates using proper etiquette.

Strategy for teaching new vocabulary


The teacher will go over the words with students, have them talk about the words in their groups. Next, the
teacher will either say one of the words or the definition of one of the words, and the students will write down
either the definition or the word on their white boards. The class will repeat the process until the teacher can
informally assess that the entire class knows the meaning of all 3 vocabulary words.

The teacher will read the students posts and comments to one another on the blog, and determine whether the
student was able to describe the theme or central idea of their book and how it was conveyed through
particular details. The teacher will also examine whether students were able to use proper etiquette online
when responding to their classmates work.
