Lesson Objective and Student:

The lesson presented is on the subject of Mathematics, it is intended for grades
Kindergarten to second grade, with a duration of three class periods. The objective of the lesson
is for students to become familiar and understand the basic concept of measurement,
temperature, money, and time. The student observed is an 8-year-old male, in the second grade
and has a learning disabilities called Dyscalcula. The student has difficulties in math and reading
along with trouble following directions and difficulty in reading comprehension. This assignment
is to accommodate and differentiate instructions and activities in the lesson plan to better meet
the needs of this student.

Procedure 1: Reducing Material, Visual Aids, and Increase Level of Support

For the first station in procedure one, the materials needed are a tape measure, yard stick,
and a ruler. Reducing the materials to only a yard stick and a ruler will help the student better to
follow directions. Since the all three materials are used to measure, having one less material to
focus on can help to fully grasp the concept of measuring. Another accommodation would be to
put visual aids in Chart 1 and Chart 2. Instead of having the student write the name of the item in
the object column, the teacher can provide the name and a picture of the item. This can help
him comprehend the word to a visual aid. For example, having a picture of a chair and the word
chair below the picture. Another accommodation for him to better follow directions would be
to pair him with another student that can easily follow directions. This can be beneficial for both
of the students, one student is learning how to follow directions and the other is learning how to
give directions.

Procedure 3: Visual Aids, Participation, and Reducing the Task

In procedure three, students are to identify and understand the value of a penny, nickel,
dime, quarter, and one-dollar bill. An accommodation for this student would be to provide a bag
filled with play money that looks and feels similar to the real thing. This will assist him in
remember what the money looks like. Another accommodation would be to have him participate
in the activity, allow the student to hold the piece of money and then have the rest of the class
recite the price value. This lets the student feel a part of the class and allow the teacher to witness
his participation in the lesson.
Now for the activity chart, instead of letting him choose five items reduce it to three or
four. For the cost column, have the teacher provide the price instead of letting him come up
with the price. Both of these accommodations would help reduce the amount of instructions the
student would have to follow, complete the task in a timely manner, and allow him to grasp the
concept of how many bills and coins are needed per item.

Procedure 4: Visual Aid and Increase Level of Support

The first accommodation would be to provide the student with a Judy clock, even
providing all the student with a Judy clock would be beneficial. This will allow him to have a
visual aid of a clock and he can move the hands of the clock to tell time. Let the student work
with a partner or in a group so they can work together to display the time on the clock. Working
with a partner or in a group will help the student learn how other students solve the answer and
they can assist in helping him.
An accommodation that should be made for Chart 5: Daily Schedule would be to provide
a picture and a phrase in the a activity column. It will aid him in comprehending what the

phrase means. Another accommodation would be to provide a picture of a clock without the
hands and a space to write the time in the start and stop columns. He will need to place the
hands of the clock in the correct areas and write the time in the space provided. This allow him to
learn what the hands on the clock represent, how to tell time, and how to read time.

Accommodation Outcome:
These accommodations are implemented to assist the student in his learning styles.
Providing visual aid will help him to connect an image to the concept. Reducing tasks and
materials should provide him with more time to better understand the concepts and complete
activities in a timely manner. Participating and increasing the level of support for him will allow
him to feel part of the class, help him to build teamwork, and learn from his peers. Having the
student participate will also give the teacher a chance to see how the student gets involved with
the activity. The accommodations for these lessons should assist this student in understanding the
basic concept of measurements, money, and time.
