A Change is Gonna Come To...

Culminating Performance Assessment

Cycle 1

Cycle 1 Problem Frame

Many issues affect young people at school and in their communities. In order to determine
effective solutions to problems, we first need to: (1) identify and define issues in our community
and school, (2) analyze their root causes and effects, (3) find resources that may help us solve
the problem, and (4) decide what else we need to know to create an effective plan for change.

Project Description
For the Culminating Performance Assessment for Cycle 1, each student will create a
Weebly website about an issue that they feel passionate about. The website will contain
multiple pages that focus on the different components of the problem frame for the cycle. (SEE
example)

Purpose
The website will be the initial source for students to argue for which issue they think we should
focus on for the rest of the year. We will be debating and voting on which issues to focus on next
cycle.
Creating a website is also a way to bring your message to the public, and it is a tool we will use
throughout the year.

Objective
Students will create a website about a social issue that they choose, where they will:
1. Demonstrate their understanding of concepts we explored in class.
2. Produce a solution to Cycle 1 Problem Frame for one issue of importance to them.
3. Demonstrate skills of of Analyzing Historical Outcomes, Reading Informational
Texts, and preliminary Research Skills.
