REFLECTION

ACTIVITY A:
Choose any one activity out of the activities given below for the further
research:
1. Creativity
2. Recreation
3. Learning & Education
4. Emotional Well being

Research one of the approaches in the table headed above and then answers the following questions.

Assessment 1: Research
1. Which approach did you choose to research?
On my personal interest, I would like to go for Recreation approach. The recreation approach
is very interesting approach where child also take full interest during the activity and generally
show the interest from his/her part.
2. Provide details of your research including the names of any books you used and/or the address of
any web sites you used. Include at least two resources.
I have used information regarding Recreation Activity among children from below mentioned
sources:

WWW.Parentinginformed.com/listings/child-recreation-and-entertainment dated 09 Jan

2013.
Confronting Child Maltreatment through Recreation by David L. Jewell

3. How does the approach researched match your service philosophy?

My service philosophy is Learn while playing. And my service philosophy match exactly the
approach researched. And I try to teach children in care centre when they are happy and
enjoying the time with help of various recreational activities.
4. Are there any parts of this approach that seem unrealistic or of concern to you these may be
weaknesses? Explain.
Although, the approach Recreation is best in its own terms but still sometimes while
implementing this approach, certain problems and situation plays as slag in that. Such as:

Recreational approach takes lots of funding from the organizations because something
new has to be provided to the children all the time, which can be one of the big
problems.
Sometimes, few children are too young to understand the new activity and they lag
behind with their peer group.
As such no standard rules and advocacy has been provided to any carer so,
sometimes carers do feel the requirement of some standard limits up to which they can
work.

5. In your View, what are the strengths of this approach?

I think recreational approach is one of the best approach and the strengths are mentioned
below:
Develop leadership skills that last throughout your lifetime.
Learn self-discipline and commitment in a team environment.

Build strength and endurance.

Discover more about inner self.
Being Creative
Being Better team player
Being Independent

6. How would you incorporate this approach into your future work OR Why would you avoid this
approach in future? Explain
I would like to incorporate this approach in future work, because it is one of the best
approaches to deal with the children of care centre. I would like to come up with new ideas
regarding recreations and will also like to take help of my colleagues in the same, so that the
better implementation can be done.

Assessment 2: Personal professional philosophy

1. Create your own personal professional philosophy. Ensure that it is professional by checking your
spelling and grammar. Ensure Your philosophy includes the following things:
a)
b)
c)
d)
e)
f)

How you think children learn and develop.

How you view children.
Any theories or approaches you believe are important.
The role of family.
The role of the educator/yourself.
Your beliefs on diversity, inclusion and cultural capital.

My personal professional philosophy includes following points regarding child care:

The child can better learn and develop with help of Recreational Activity.
I view a child as a bunch of curious question, who always wants his answers but in a
very fun loving manner.
I believe the approach of Recreational activity is the most important approach of the
implementation.
Family can better help child to understand in advance new recreational techniques,
which could be taught at care centre in future and make the child more acceptable for
new challenges.
Educator can bring daily new activity to entertain the children.
The diversity, inclusion and cultural capital play an important role in childs
development.

2. How is your personal professional philosophy different to the service philosophy?

My personal professional philosophy is nowhere different from my service philosophy. My
service philosophy is Learn while playing and same reflects in my personal professional
philosophy.
3. Provide a copy of your current service philosophy?
a) Did you participate in the development of this philosophy-how or why not? If not, how would
you be involved in future philosophy development? Explain
My current service philosophy is educating children when they are enjoying their time. And I
am very much into promoting this philosophy and always have a plan to implement the same
philosophy into future developments.
a) Were parents, children, community members, experts or specialists involved in the
development of your current service philosophy? Explain how or why not.
As per my own observations, I think parents and children are taking interest in developing my
current service philosophy. I usually interact with parents regarding this due to which most of
the time children are usually prepared in advance for the new activity. And as far as funds and
other resources are concerned for the implementation of the activity then I usually get support
from the peer group and experts, it means that they are also with me.
4. List any ways the programs and setting reflects the philosophy of your services.
There are various programs and settings which we use in our services for the child
recreational activity such as:
Story Telling
Dancing Time
Singing Songs
Poem recitation
Tree Plantation

Outdoor games
Indoor Games

5. List any issues or concerns relating to your program and setting in relation to the philosophy. You
might include areas which are difficult to implement, are not consistent, are not considered
important or have been hindered in some ways.
As such, there is no such issue arose in past which could be of a great concern. And I
generally implement simple recreational activity which does not affect the community or any
non-related group adversely.

During the designing of time table, it has been taken care that each and every aspect regarding
child care should be taken into account.
b) What information was collected to ensure the time table was suited to the children in care?
Provide copies or explain why no information was collected.
While designing the time table for children, its been observed that all the activities performed
at Child care centre should be taken into account.
c) How is the time table age/stage relevant? Explain.
The time table covers all the aspects of the child care centre and also taken into account of all
the age group of children, so this time table suites best.
d) What learning opportunities are provided in this timetable? Identify at least two.
The learning opportunities can be provided to child during two times a day which is mentioned
below:
During playing/recreational time
While having lunch.
e) When are children able to participate in outdoor activities? Explain why you think this is
important. If you do not have an outdoor environment, how does your routine/timetable cater
for physically active children?
This time table has been designed in a very better way which takes care of all the required
activities which need to be performed in any care centre. During the playing hours or
recreational time the outdoor activities can be performed.
f)

How would you alter this time table to better meet the needs of the group?

The time table covers all the aspects and need not to be altered very frequently. Although, if
required or any new activity is supposed to be added then this time table can be adjusted
according.
g) If you would alter the time table, explain why you think it meets the needs of the groups.
I think I need not to alter the time table in very often. The time table contains almost all the
activities and all the age group of children. So, I think this time table better meets the
requirement of the groups.

a) How is information about each childs development gathered?
The table or plan contains the information observation of any category of child for about 4
working days and also can be modified into any more days. Simply, the carer has to fill up the
name and observe the particular students.
b) Is the program child centred? Explain why or why not.

CHCPR510BDesign, implement and evaluate programs and care routines for children
One World for Children Pty Ltd

The program is designed in such a way that, it should cover all the aspect of particular child
with their entire requirement. The program is very much child centred.
c) Is there a focus on childrens capabilities, interests, needs and backgrounds? Explain why or
why not.
The plan has been designed in such a way that it keeps a close observation on every child at
care centre. The program includes that what are their reaction towards any particular games
and how they behave with their peer during that particular time period, which clearly indicated
the interest and capabilities of any particular child.
d) Are the resources required for the program always available? Explain why or why not and
how you could improve this.
The activities do not require any specific extra ordinary resources. Just for the Indoor
activities, indoor games and material required which is available with us and also for outdoor
activities; we do have open spaces along with excursion tours also, which is not a matter of
botheration for the management.

Assessment 5: Plan Analysis

Use the plan collected in Assessment 4 to complete the analysis.
1. Show how the program includes:
a) Excursion / incursion as well as service based activities.
b) Familiar experiences as well as special events
c) Unstructured as well as structured activities
d) Indoor as well as outdoor activities
e) Busy/active as well as quiet experiences.
f) Surprising/spontaneous as well as predictable activities.
g) Challenging as well as confirming / achievable activities.
The program has been designed in two different parts, where one is indoor or incursion
activities and other in outdoor or excursion activities. So, as per my own assumption the
designed program contains all the above mentioned activities.
2. How have you identified these on this plan?
The plan is simple and understandable, it clearly shows the program is separated in two
different parts and separate observations can be noted down accordingly.
3. Explain why any of these aspects are not included.
The plan includes all the activities except Surprising activities and Challenging activities. The
exclusion of these activities has been done on the basis of:
Its been assumed that children generally do not like anything unpredictable on the
spot.
We do not want that child should have the feeling of negative competition.

Assessment 6: Cultural Inclusion

REFLECTION

ACTIVITY A:
Cultural Inclusion includes:
1. Gather information about Child
2. Identify the Parents Expectations
3. Develop and implement programs
4. Resources reflect diversity and cross culture

1. How does your service gather information about the childs life
We gather information about the childs life from below mentioned points:

Conversation with Child

Consultation with Parents or family members.
Consultation with community representatives.
Participation of child in care centre activities.

2. How does your service find out about the varying expectations of parents? This would be
information greater than a regular enrolment form.
I generally make parents participate in the further planning of child education based on the
current situation. By involving others and parents makes the planning richer and dynamic. I
get more support and ideas from the parents themselves.
3. Is the plan of activities being implemented this week typical of the plans that are implemented
every week or are there special expectations? Explain
The plans of activities are generally changed every week. We do not implement same plan all
the time, because after some time, this kind of repetition brings boredom among children.
4. How does the plan of activities being implemented this week promote cross cultural
understanding i.e. help children to share the way they live at home? If the program does not
promote cross culture awareness, what would you include this week to do so?
Although, there was no such activity happened last week but we are planning to implement
any one activity which can help children to understand the cross culture. We would tell them
in day or two before that, they have to recite one story or situation happened which they
enjoyed with their whole family. And also to wear the traditional wear related to their
community on that particular day.
5. What activities and /or resources are being provided this week that support children in developing
their identities? If the program does not support children in developing identities, what would you
include this week to do so?
The program performed does not support children in very current basis. But yes, we will
inform student that, they have to paste pictures of their old family members in their ethnic
wears.
And also, we have plan to provide the cultural feast of any particular ethnic group each week
to the students, so that they will be able to identify themselves and their cultural group.

Analyse these formats and identify the positive and negative aspects of each format. Include the
following as a minimum:
a) How easy to read?
Both the plans are designed in a very crystal clear way, and there is no such problem lies
there, which may be hurdle to read and understand.
b) How easy to use?
Both the plans are easy to use but both plans cannot be used at the same place. The quality of
plan design depends on its implementation activity.
c) Does it include both indoor and outdoor activities?
Only plan 1 includes indoor and outdoor activities. And plan 2 does not specifically include the
mentioned activities.
d) Does it include enough information relating to the setting, environment and resources?
All the above mentioned information can be recorded, but not very specifically in both of the
plans. The plan contains the space to record above mentioned but not in very clear terms.
e) Is it Attractive and professional?
The plan can be designed in much more effective and attractive way, I personally do not think
that both the plan contains that attraction.
f)

Does it allow for new and spontaneous interest to be recorded?

To record the spontaneous interest or any other special need, the above mentioned plans
require certain modifications. The raw plans do not provide this type of service.

1. How do the setting, environment and resources reflect the childrens culture, family
backgrounds and interests?
With help of evaluating each activity done by child and after consultation with their
parents, the carer can easily understand the childrens culture, family backgrounds and
their interests.
2. How the setting, environment and resources do reflects the childrens development and
learning?
The carer should observe the childs involvements and consideration towards each activity
and after evaluating his / her reaction towards any particular activity, the carer can easily
calculate the childs development.
3. Does the plan demonstrate the importance of outdoor play? How?
The second section of the plan clearly indicates that this part consists of childs activities in
indoor and outdoor plays. The part of plan closely records the involvements of any child in the
plan.
4. What modifications would you make to this plan?
I do not think that we require any modification in the above mentioned plan, but still if any
adjustment is required then that can be easily adjusted or modified.

group as a whole.
We would like to set following goals for ourselves regarding child care:

providing a healthy, safe and secure environment for children;

encouraging each child in his/her developmental growth by providing an
environment that encourages learning through action, inquiry and exploration;
assisting each child to gain better control and understanding of his/her body
through interaction with the environment, materials, and equipment;
helping each child develop language skills which will enable expression of
thoughts and feelings as well as an opportunity to increase knowledge;
promoting a good self-image in each child by providing an environment that
encourages independence, decision making, and problem solving;
fostering an appreciation for the ethnic and cultural diversity of its families and its
community; discrimination, in any form, will not be tolerated; and
Promoting a cooperative, informative, and respectful relationship with families.
4. Use the curriculum planning documents you have developed in Assessment 9 to record all
details for the week based on these 4 children and the group as a whole. Provide the
timetable/routine also. You should include:
All activities continuing from refection and evaluation of the previous plan
All activities for indoor and outdoor play
Sufficient activities for all children to participate
Sufficient activities for children to have choice
Sufficient activities for children to be involved throughout the planned session.
All areas of developments OR demonstrate by providing an explanation why you have chosen

2. Use the system or format you have developed in question 1 to evaluate the plan.
Overall, the format is designed with utmost care that the complete day report of any particular
date regarding each and every child can be recorded and complied.
3. From your evaluation of this plan, identify which activities and experiences you will continue to
provide in the next weeks plan for these children and / or the group? Explain why you are
continuing to offer these activities.
As per my personal observation, the spontaneous game activity should be continued. This
encourages the curiosity of children and after a meanwhile they are always ready to accept
new challenges.
This kind of activity not only entertains the children but also entertains the carer too.
4. How will your evaluation of the group objectives affect your future planning? Your evaluation:

Does not influence your future planning. Why?

Will enable you to extend on an interest. Explain
Has encouraged you to introduce a new topic. Explain
