NOTE
l The recommended fuse capacity of 10 A can meet requirements under the maximum power
consumption. Customers can compute the capacity of the fuse according to the actual power
consumption. The fuse capacity should be larger than or equal to (total power consumption x 1.5)/
(rated voltage x 87.5%).
l If the IDU is installed in a cabinet, the customer can purchase the DC power distribution unit (PDU)
from Huawei. This PDU inputs two channels of -48 V/ -60 V power supply and outputs eight channels
of 20 A -48 V/ -60 V power supply.
l If the customer can obtain only +24 V DC power or 110 V/220 V AC power, the customer can purchase
the power module from Huawei. For the relevant information, consult Huawei engineers.
The capacity of the power system should be designed in full consideration of the maximum
load of the system in the dynamic and static situations. In addition, certain margin should
be reserved.
The primary power supply and the storage battery should be of hot backup to ensure that
the equipment can work normally in the case of power failure.
The power equipment should be placed close to the communication equipment, hence
minimizing the length of the DC feeder cable.
The DC power cable should be routed from the DC PDU or the DC cable distribution box.
The cable diameter should meet the design requirement.
The working ground of the DC power supply should be connected directly to the protection
ground in the telecommunications room. The diameter of the protection ground cable
should meet the design requirement.
The fuse for limiting the current from the DC PDU (or the DC cable distribution box) and
the primary power supply should meet the operating requirements of the equipment.
The AC power system is required at the maintenance terminal and in the engineering
implementation work. Therefore, the AC power supply in the telecommunications room should
be made available before the work. If the equipment is not installed with the network
management system (NMS), the mains power can meet the requirement of the engineering
implementation. Otherwise, the facilities such as the uninterruptible power system (UPS) should
be made available according to the requirement of the NMS.
The telecommunications room needs to be jointly grounded. The working ground and the
protection ground of the equipment need to share the same ground with the lightning-proof
ground. The communication equipment and the power supply facility in the
telecommunications room need to use the same protection ground bar if possible.
The cross-sectional area of the PGND cable from the equipment to the ground bar needs
to be not less than 6 mm2.
When installing an IDU in a transmission cabinet, you need to connect the IDU to the
ground bar of the transmission equipment through a separate ground cable, which needs to
be a multiple-wire copper conductor cable with a cross-sectional area of not less than 6
mm2.
When installing an IDU separately (on a desk or on a wall), connect the IDU to the ground
bar in the telecommunications room through a multiple-wire copper conductor cable with
a cross-sectional area of not less than 6 mm2. The ground cable cannot be longer than five
meters.

If two or more outdoor cabinets are connected to each other through signal cables (except
the situation where only optical fibers are available), you need to add a lightning-protection
unit to the electrical interface of the signals transmitted from the cabinets.
1.
2.
The cable between two cabinets is shorter than five meters, no equipotential cable
between cabinets exists, and the ground cable of a cabinet is longer than five meters.

DDF
If the IDU accesses the services through cables, the DDF needs to be installed in the
telecommunications room. The requirements for the DDF are as follows:
l
The capacity of the DDF meets the requirement of the current project capacity and planned
long-term capacity.
The connector of the DDF is determined after consultation with Huawei engineers to ensure
that the type of the delivered IF cable matches the connector of the DDF.
The DDF is connected to the protection ground bar through a copper wire whose sectional
area is not less than 6 mm2.
NOTE
If both the IDU and the service equipment are installed in a 19-inch cabinet, the customer can purchase the E1
panel from Huawei. The E1 panel provides 16 75-ohm E1 cables for the IDU.
The customer needs to work with Huawei engineers to plan the cable route of the IDU and to compute the cable
length.

A cable between two cabinets is longer than five meters.
The cable between two cabinets is shorter than five meters, no equipotential cable
between cabinets exists, and the ground cable of a cabinet is longer than five meters.
The cable between two cabinets is shorter than five meters, the interconnected cabinets
do not share a ground bar, and no equipotential cable between cabinets exists.

When installing an IDU in an outdoor cabinet, adhere to the following surge protection and grounding
requirements:
l
A protection group cable is installed on the IDU and connected to the ground bar on the cabinet.
The IF cables need to be grounded at a position 0.5 m to 1.0 m away from the outdoor cabinet.
The outdoor cable tray includes the horizontal cable tray and the vertical cable tray, and
needs to be installed according to the design drawings.
The outdoor cable tray is connected directly to the outdoor ground grid in the steel bar
welding mode.
The outdoor ground bar is generally installed in a position below the outdoor feeder
window, hence functioning as the ground point of outdoor cables.
The outdoor ground bar needs to be connected to the outdoor ground grid.
DDF
If the IDU needs to receive services over cables, the DDF needs to be installed inside the cabinet.
Two types of DDFs are available inside the cabinet: surge-protective DDF (namely, SLPU) and
ordinary DDF.
Issue 05 (2013-10-30)

is an optional configuration in the SLPU. One UELP unit provides surge protection for four
E1/T1 signals.
Universal FE surge protection unit (UFLP): a common FE/GE surge-protective unit that is
an optional configuration in the SLPU. One UFLP unit provides surge protection for two
FE/GE signals.
Universal signal surge protection unit 2 (USLP2): a common E1/T1 surge-protective unit
that is an optional configuration in the SLPU. OneUSLP2 provides surge protection for
four RS485 signals, or four E1/T1 signals, or eight alarm signals.
NOTE
The SLPU is required if the cable is routed for more than five meters outdoors.
Battery Backup
When the AC power input of the APM30H is normal, the APM30H provides -48 V DC power
supply to the radio transmission equipment and charge the configured storage battery. When the
AC power input of the APM30H is abnormal, the storage battery provides -48 V DC power
supply to the radio transmission equipment. The built-in AC/DC power system of the APM
power cabinet manages the charging of storage batteries and monitors the environment inside
the cabinet.
NOTE
In addition to storage batteries, battery backup can be provided by means of a battery cabinet.

Feeder Window
The feeder window is used to pass the IF cable into the wall of the telecommunications room,
as shown in Figure 5-6. The requirements for the feeder window are as follows:
l
The size of the feeder hole on the wall is designed according to the size of the purchased
feeder window.
The feeder hole is in a position of 100 mm higher than the position of the indoor cable tray.
Issue 05 (2013-10-30)

NOTE
l When selecting an indoor cable, generally, consider the fire-resistant performance of the cable. If no high
requirements for weather resistance are proposed, use the sockets that are made from PVC materials.
l If high fire-resistant requirements are proposed for the cables, generally, use the insulation parts that are
made from fire-resistant PE or PVC materials, and use the sockets of the test cables that are made from PVC
materials.
l The materials of the insulation parts and sockets of the cables meet the RoHS environmental protection
requirements.
l The cable materials also meet the local regulations or the requirements of the customer.
Cabling routes and positions are designed in advance. All the cables are arranged neatly.
The bending part of a cable is even and smooth. The minimum bending radius is more than
60 mm for the cable and is more than 40 mm for the fiber. The minimum bending radius
of the IF cable is more than 30 cm.
The cables that are routed along the wiring frame must be bundled.
The cables are bundled closely with appropriate force. The spacing between cable ties is
even.
The cables in the trough do not need to be bundled, but they need to be placed tidily and
straight with no crossover. No cable overflows the trough. At the inlets, outlets, and turns
of the trough, the cables are bundled with cable ties.
The power cable and PGND cable cannot have any connectors or welding spots in the
middle, and cannot be connected to a switch or a fuse.
If fiber jumpers are routed outside the cabinet, a corrugated pipe or a winding pipe must
be equipped.
The excessive fiber jumpers are coiled on a dedicated equipment, for example, a fiber
management tray. Proper force is applied to winding a fiber. Bending a fiber forcibly is not
allowed to prevent the fiber from being broken.
The two ends of a cable are bundled and affixed with labels.

Avoid constructing an equipment room in an area where corrosive gas concentrations are
high, such as a chemical plant.
If pollution sources cannot be avoided, ensure that the air intake vent of an equipment room
is located in the perennial upwind direction of the pollution sources.
Place storage batteries separately from other devices. It is recommended that you place
storage batteries in a separate room.

An equipment room must be located at an altitude ranging from -60 meters to 4000 meters.
An equipment room must be kept far away from pollution sources. To be specific, an
equipment room must be above 5 km far from heavy pollution sources, such as a smelting
factory or coal mine, above 3.7 km far from medium pollution sources, such as a chemical
factory, rubber factory, or galvanization factory, above 2 km far from light pollution
sources, such as a food or leather processing plant. If these pollution sources cannot be
avoided, an equipment room must be located in the perennial upwind direction of the
pollution sources. In addition, a high-quality equipment room or protective product must
be used.
The air intake vent of an equipment room must be far away from the outlet of any waste
pipe, any large-scale cesspool, and any sewage farm. In addition, an equipment room must
be kept under passive pressure, therefore preventing any corrosive gas from entering the
equipment room to damage components and circuit cards.
An equipment room must be kept away from industrial and heating boilers.
An equipment room must be kept far away from livestock farms. If the situation cannot be
avoided, an equipment room must be located in the perennial upwind direction of the
livestock farms.
An equipment room must be kept 3.7 km away from the seaside or salt lakes. If this
requirement cannot be met, an enclosed equipment room equipped with air conditioners
must be constructed, and salt soil must not be used as engineering materials. Otherwise,
equipment applicable to harsh environments must be used.
An equipment room must not be a room used to keep livestock or chemical fertilizer.
An equipment room must be kept away from a road or sand area with dust flying around.
If this requirement cannot be met, windows and doors of the equipment room must not face
the road or sand area.
It is recommended that noise in an equipment room be not greater than 85 dbA (8h twa).
If the noise is greater than 85 dbA, measures must be taken for hearing protection.
An equipment room must be kept away from residential communities as far as possible.
An equipment room near residential communities must be constructed in compliance with
related standards to minimize the impact of noises.
Doors and windows of an equipment room must be closed. Steel doors are recommended
for better sound insulation.
Walls of an equipment room must be smooth, flat, abrasion resistant, dust-proofing, fireresistant, soundproofing, heat absorbing, and electromagnetic shielding. In addition, cracks
or holes must be avoided in walls and floors. Cable holes in walls or windows must be
sealed.
