This is around 5% of the worlds population - 32 million of these people are children. Disabling hearing loss
is defined as:
adults (15 years and older): hearing loss greater than 40 decibels (dB) in the better hearing ear;
children (0 14 years of age): hearing loss greater than 30 dB in the better hearing ear.
It is estimated that there are 56 million potential users who would benefit from the use of a hearing device.
However, the production of hearing aids, for example, meets only 10% of global need, and 3% of developing
countries need.
