3. VALIDATION STUDY
1. Optimum position of outrigger structural system for high rise reinforced concrete
building under wind and earthquake loadings American Journal of Engineering
Research (AJER), e-ISSN: 2320-0847 p-ISSN: 2330-0936,Volume-02, Issue -08, pp76-89
P.M.B.Raj Kiran Nanduri, B.Suresh, MD.Ihtesham Hussain conducted a study on
the use of outriggers as well as virtual outriggers on the behaviour of the building
under earthquake and wind loads.
Model:
30-storied square concrete building with central core of dimension 5.5 x 5.5m.
It have 5 bays on each side 5.5m each column spacing.
The roof height is 3m with shear core wall thickness = 350mm
All the building elements are considered to be concrete structures including outriggers.
The column size is 600 x 600mm for interior and exterior ones. The outrigger structure
and beams are considered to be 230mm x 600mm
Design codes:
IS: 875-200
IS: 1893(Part 1)-2002
Loads on the building considered:
Dead Load = ETABS calculated
Super dead load = floor load of 1.5kN/m2
Frame loads = 6kN/m
Live load (L.L) = 3kN/m2

Net pressure coefficient Cp(windward)=0.8
Cp(leeward) = -0.5
Earthquake load specifications:
Zone = 1(0.10)
Importance factor = 1
Site is hard/rocky site (Type 1)
Response reduction factor taken = 3
Time period and base shear are ETABS program calculated.
