eae DENA acetone TEACHING LITTLE FINGERS TO PLAY ENSEMBLE FOREWORD HE Melodies contained in any Beginners’ Book are necessarily very simple; hence, few harmonies are used. The addition of accompani- ments, to be played by the teacher or parent, will add immeasurably to the musical interest of the tiny tunes and will make them sound quite “grown- up.” The advantage is obvious. ENSEMBLE PLAYING The value of ensemble playing needs no comment and really cannot be started too soon. By means of ensemble playing the teacher or parent is enabled to control tempo and rhythm and to encourage tonal nuance from the very beginning. The child, too, having heard the accompani- ments, carries the harmonies in his mind during his solitary practice periods with salutary results. In short, the elementary examples become “alive” for him immediately and sound like fragments of larger and more complex compositions. In the Studio or in Pupils’ Recitals, the Second Parts may be played by slightly more advanced students. PRIMO AND SECONDO Note that in the One Piano, Four-Hands arrangements, the pupil's part is sometimes Primo and sometimes Secondo. This procedure is planned to develop the child as soioist and accom- panist; with better musicianship as the objective. It need hardly be pointed out that anything which promotes listening on the part of the pupil is invaluable and is so recognized by outstanding and successful music teachers. There is no single thing better adapted to develop this desired end than ensemble playing. ego Birthday Party «cee» Piano-Four Hands SECONDO ” ae aso we yea * Zt 6 Birthday Party Two-Pianos, Four Hands PIANOII 35 25 PY ey pe, mp *Refers to corresponding page in “Teaching Little Fingers to Play” Copyright, MCMEXXVII by The Willis Music Co, Sandman’s Near cage » Piano-Four Hands SECONDO few == 5 = molt Sandman’s Near Two-Pianos, Four Hands PIANO I pri | gv |e NH is — —_ — a Seeetees SS —— fp te 7 Gi Base-ball Days ee Piano-Four Hands i 3 PRIMO t 2 ‘ JS schersando Te ir Base-ball Days Two- Pianos, Four Hands PIANO II 5 4 i Sschersando ftidad 33 ee The Postmanense Piano-Four Hands PRIMO ee = 4 i" T 6 i— = het =z : = = The Postman Two-Pianos, Four Hands PIANO II = SSS aE = Rain on the Roofeage Piano-Four Hands PRIMO (pmolto stace, 6 Potts it t+ 4 Rain on the Roof Two-Pianos, Four Hands PIANO II z—_ 2 i — a i — —-s i | os a = Song of the Volga Boatmen cage » Piano-Four Hands SECONDO i ee SSS mp =} < 1 a a ™ Repoat ad lib, = = Song of the Volga Boatmen Two- Pianos, Four Hands PIANO II 8 A Message crge 1 Piano-Four Hands mp é SECONDO A Message Two Pianos, Four Hands PIANO II eas = Sa wp SS SS SS = SSS S55 psi z == 3 = Chimes erage 15) Piano-Four Hands PRIMO Chimes Two-Pianos, Four Hands PIANO II 40 Good King Wenceslas case Piano-Four Hands I Good King Wenceslas Two-Pianos, Four Hands ( SECONDO PIANO I! 44 Lazy Mary ease m Piano-Four Hands SECONDO — Lazy Mary Two- Pianos, Four Hands PIANO [1 & 12 Betty and Bill cace Piano-Four Hands ———- —— =: Betty and Bill Two-Pianos, Four Hands PIANO II a aa = += + — + if tt all] eed rT Hate (it | e HI 43 Flying to the Moon cage » Piano-Four Hands SECONDO Flying to the Moon Two-Pianos, Four Hands ae PIANO II 44 Air age 20) from Haydn's Surprise Symphony Piano Four Hands PRIMO eu | | a Air from Haydn's Surprise Symphony Two-Pianos, Four Hands Z PIANO Il ae . be. 2- tl Kms Hea “ = oh 45 By the Pond case 2» Piano-Four Hands PRIMO By the Pond Two-Pianos, Four Hands PIANO II 16 Paper Ships cage 22) Piano-Four Hands SECONDO Paper Ships Two-Pianos, Four Hands PIANO Il ee eee — 47 Sleddin & age 23) Piano-Four Hands PRIMO 1 fee 6 Ft a —— _ J T Sledding Two-Pianos, Four Hands PIANO Il 125s 4 5 tga bs Ze SS eo The Butterfly cace Piano-Four Hands In Waltz Tempo SECONDO a 3: 8 18 sec Zz + -+—F P _| — He = = ——— — > a The Butterfly Two-Pianos, Four Hands In Waltz Tempo PIANO Il fe fe ae £ = v. fte set: 2 2) P . 3 Be Piano-Four Hands Que StIONS (age 25) SECONDO Duoarf mp a = —_.
