The Republic Act No.

10533 AN ACT ENHANCING THE PHILIPPINE BASIC

EDUCATION SYSTEM BY STRENGTHENING ITS CURRICULUM AND INCREASING
THE NUMBER OF YEARS FOR BASIC EDUCATION, APPROPRIATING FUNDS
THEREFOR AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES or also known as the Enhanced Basic Education
Act of 2013.
Under the Enchanced basic education program of the Department of Education or also
called as the K to 12 or Kindergarten plus Grades 1-12, the students shall be required to undergo
kindergarten, six years of elementary, four years of junior high school and two years of senior
high school. This aims to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop
lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development,
employment, and entrepreneurship.
Here in the Philippines as early as 5 years old a child can now enter the school, at that age
the child will start from kindergarten, where the students are expected to learn how to count
numbers, the alphabets, the different kinds of colors and the different kinds of shapes. They can
learn this through games, songs, dances that will be prepared by their teacher in charge.
We all know that we Filipinos are known to be competitive in the world. But some people
say that our current education system is a hindrance for us becoming more competitive among
other countries in the world.
But can this k-12 system of education really help us? At some point yes it can, but lets
put our foot on the shoes of others, our fellow poor Filipino people who barely eat three times a
day, now that our basic education was only ten years, not all the students can afford to study in
college, most of them after graduating High School they start t find a job so that they can help
their parents to earn money for their growing family. Many students are forced to stop studying
for lack of money, even though they are enrolled in the public school that are provided by the
government, their parents income cannot support them especially most of the Filipino family has
a big number of family members.
Upon the implementation of the K-12 system of education or also called the Enchanced
Basic Education, lots of teachers will lose jobs, for they will not have students for two years
because of the additional two years on the basic education. Instead the students will be college

students already they will have to take or pass the senior high school after only they pass the
senior high school that is the time where they can enter college. What will happen to those
teachers who will lose their jobs? In our current state, the k-12 has not yet implemented in the
whole country but we already lack classrooms, school buildings, school supplies and teachers,
what more if the K-12 system of education will be implemented.
