Raju Kaur* Kajal Chaudhary* Surjan Singh*

Abstract:
The environment is very important part of the climate. Environment literally means surrounding
and everything which affect climate and their natural resources. We should protect it.
Environment is air, water, minerals, organism and all other external factors which affect our
surroundings. Sustainability protected our natural environment, which is very important part of
our planet. Sustainability is more than a threat. Sustainability is the proper utilization of natural
resources. The main purpose of this study is measure of overall progress towards Environmental
Sustainability in Baru Sahib. This paper tells us how to manage environmental sustainability in
Baru Sahib, Himachal Pradesh, which provide water management facilities, solar system facility
and manage the wastage.
INTRODUCTION
Environment is important for human beings and the natural system. Environment has different
meanings for different people. Environment means surrounding. Environmental is the air, water,
minerals, organism and other external factor surrounding and affecting a given organism at any
time. The environment is influence by direct and indirect factors. Direct factor is light,
temperature, humidity of air, soil air, soil water, soil nutrients etc. Indirect factor is soil structure,
soil organisms, wind, slopes etc. when environmental problems arise environmental manager
work out how to reduce the damage and wastage. Sustainability is proper utilization of natural
resources. Definition of Sustainability meet the needs of the present without compromising the
ability of future generations to meet their own need. Environmental Sustainability contains two
elements Environmental and Sustainability Environmental sustainability is "the ability to
maintain things or qualities that are valued in the physical environment. The need & importance
of environmental sustainability is use resources more efficiently, improve productivity and
enhances reputation and low cost producer. Environmental sustainability programs is Ecosystem
services (the water cycle, natural water), Purification, climate moderation, soil protection and
solar system. Environmental sustainability strategies is improve sustainable management of
natural resources, Increase access to low- emission, climate-smart transport, energy, agriculture
and Reuse of wastes. Three Pillars of Sustainability are Environmental, Economic and Social.
The Issues of environmental Sustainability includes access to save drinking water, Deforestation,
Climate change, air quality, soil erosion, biodiversity and animal welfare. Today, the need of the
awareness of the people about climate change, deforestation and water scarcity. The government
starts some schemes to protect the environment. The odd and even schemes, e-rickshaw, ecofriendly, Integrated power development Scheme, Smart city Mission, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
and the new project is Namami Ganga. The Namami Ganga project starts in May,2015. The
Ganga project starts for the purpose of cleaning the rivers. The odd & even mission was
followed in all the smart cities, but in Delhi it was followed very strictly.

Environmental Sustainability in Baru Sahib:

Baru Sahib is a religious and value based education hub in Himachal Pradesh, which provide the
education facilities from Nursery to Ph.D. The population of Baru Sahib is-----------.
Which indicate the environmental sustainability and how to manage it. The solar penal is mostly
using for producing the electricity and cooking in the Baru Sahib. The solar penal reduces the use
of LPG gas and protect the environment. The solar penal is using to reduce the cost of LPG gas.
The toilet is very neat and clean. There is a proper management of the water and also purifies it
with the use of technology. In our Baru Sahib the environment is very clean and green.
Objectives of the study
To study the environmental sustainability and their impact in Baru Sahib.
To find out the pros and cons of the environmental sustainability.
To find out the factors that affecting environmental sustainability.

GOALS OF SUSTAINABILITY
In 2012, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development met to discuss and develop
a set of goals to work towards; they grew out of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) that
claimed success in reducing global poverty while acknowledging there was still much more to
do.
No poverty
Zero hunger
Better standards of education and healthcare.
Improving health and education
Better sanitation and water quality
To achieve gender equality
Proper utilization of natural resources
To reduce biodiversity loss
Life below water
Life in land

PILLARS OF SUSTAINABILITY

1. Social Sustainability: There are many aspects of this pillar. Social Sustainability is
providing awareness and the protection of the health of the people from the pollution and
other activities. The education is very important for the sustainability. The education is
encouraging the people to participate in the environmental sustainability. This pillar
supports the Peace, social justice, reducing poverty and social equity.
2. Economic Sustainability: Economic Sustainability is developing the economy.
Economic Sustainability is reducing the financial burden because using the solar energy.
Solar energy is produced by the sun. The minimum amount is using for the solar panel.
Solar energy is free and does not compromise the environment. ES fair distribution and
proper allocation of our resources.
3. Environmental Sustainability: Environmental Sustainability is very important. We are
using the 3Rs to protect the environment. 3Rs is Reduce, Reuse, and Recycling. We
should use the eco-friendly vehicles. The minimum vehicles is use as well as possible.
Protect ecosystems, air quality and sustainability of our resources is the elements of the
environmental Sustainability. This pillar ensures the renewable energy, reducing fossil
fuel consumption and emissions, organic farming deforestation, tree planting.

NEEDS OF ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

The Use resources more efficiently
Improve productivity and enhances reputation
Low cost producer

IMPORTANCE OF ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

Today, the Environmental Sustainability is very important. Population is increased day

by day, life style of the people and the level of technology in our developing
environmental system are being harshly damaged.
There are two aspects of environmental sustainability which damaged the environment
effectively.
1. Mitigation: Mitigation means reducing risk of loss from the occurrence of
any undesirable event.

2. Adaptation: Adaptation means in order to reduce the negative impacts

and take advantage of positive impacts. Adaptation acknowledges the
current, and projected, harm and implements strategies for better
outcomes

FACTORS AFFECTING THE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

Direct Factor: light, temperature, humidity of air, soil air, soil water, soil nutrients
Indirect Factor: soil structure, soil organisms, wind, slopes
Environmental sustainability is important because humans tend to be bad at systems
thinking. Environmental sustainability professionals are employed to help balance, or
improve, the human role in environmental systems.
We have a number of psychological, sociological, and instinctual pressures (and I am sure
there is a laundry list of additions) that make short-term thinking more valuable than longterm thinking. Individually and holistically, we fail to understand the full consequences of
the thousands of choices we make, or are made for us, on a daily basis. This fact is
compounded by our global prominence as a species (7.3B people!), relatively high energy
needs, and comparatively absurd lifestyles when you look at the rest of Kingdom Animalia.
For the time being, we exist in a system (or, at the very least, understand ourselves to be in a
system). There is a part of this system we call the Commons which includes everything from
the air we breathe to the water we drink to the cultures we participate in. Within a lot of
economic systems, the Commons are treated as an externality (e.g. non-renewable
resources, pollution, etc.). At our current population, lifestyle, and level of technology our
environmental systems are being severely undermined. Environmental sustainability
focuses on two aspects of this environmental damage: mitigation and adaptation. Mitigation
reduces the harm to natural systems and adaptation acknowledges the current, and
projected, harm and implements strategies for better outcomes.
Successful environmental sustainability should be measurable across the triple bottom line
of people, planet, and profit (or equity, environment, and economy). Good environmental
sustainability professionals should be adept at systems thinking (Donella Meadows is a good
place to start) and have a good grasp on psychology and sociology (Ramit Sethihas some
very accessible material). The system isnt the problem, its the humans in it:)

Direct impacts. The immediate consequence of transport

activities on the environment where the cause and effect
relationship is generally clear and well understood. For
instance, noise and carbon monoxide emissions are known to
have direct harmful effects.
Indirect impacts. The secondary (or tertiary) effects of
transport activities on environmental systems. They are often
of higher consequence than direct impacts, but the involved
relationships are often misunderstood and more difficult to
establish. For instance, particulates are mostly the outcome of
incomplete combustion in an internal combustion engine are
indirectly linked with respiratory and cardiovascular problems
since they contribute among other factors to such conditions.

Sustainability
Sustainability includes sustainable building, design and operations. Sustainability is the collection of
policies and strategies employed by companies to minimize their environmental impact on future
generations. Ecological concerns, such as the environmental impact of pollutants, are balanced with
socio-economic concerns such as minimizing the consumption of limited natural resources to
maintain their availability for the future.

Environmental sustainability is the rates of renewable resource harvest, pollution

creation, and non-renewable resource depletion that can be continued indefinitely. If
they cannot be continued indefinitely then they are not sustainable.
