Seung Hoon Park

Armed with a large scale camera, the Korean Seung Hoon
Park composes surprising urban views. Based in Seoul and
puzzled by the demographic explosion of the second largest
city in the world, he builds, assembling lots of shots of a
same frame, photographic mosaics depicting the liveliness
of a city whose population quintupled in a half-century.
Named Textus, the series is presented as an unlimited
text or weave. Writing, as weave, is a no-end experience.
Tirelessly, the thread and the text can stretch themselves
infinitely My project Textus tries to show the
complexity of the nowadays cities.

Greg Sand
Greg Sand is an artist and photographer who explores the
issues of existence, time, and death. He works primarily
with digital photography to produce work that addresses
the nature of photography and its role in defining reality.
Sand received his BFA in Photography from Austin Peay
State University in 2008. He has won the acclaim of both
jurors and audiences, winning numerous awards and
honors.
In 2009, Sand was selected by critic Catherine Edelman
and the Griffin Museum of Photography as one of the
most exciting new artists emerging in the world of
photography. Sand currently produces work in Clarksville,
Tennessee, and exhibits across the United States.

ART TERMS
Digital Photography: a camera that records
images as digital data instead of on film
-First known use of a digital camera: 1976
Weaving: to interlace especially to form a
texture, fabric, or design.
Textile Design: relates to materials being
woven together to create a design (usually
fabric/cloth)

ASSIGNMENT #1: Portrait Photo Weaving

1.

You will be taking 2 digital photos of yourself

with your assigned iPad (Only share the iPad
with your table group.)

2.

Have a classmate from your table group take

your 2 portraits. Make sure you are standing the
distance from the camera for both photographs.

3.

Make a different facial expression in both

photographs. (Example: 1 photo of you smiling
& 1 photo of you angry/crying.)

4.

Email your best 2 photographs to

alliemtodd@gmail.com and write your name in
the subject line.

5.

Teacher will print out the photographs in black

& white.

6.

Cut each photograph into about 1 inch. strips

and weave them together.

-For 8x11 photographs:

-Cut one photograph into Eight 1 inch strips.
-Cut the other photograph into Eleven 1 inch strips.
6. Use a glue stick to help keep weaving in place during
the weaving process. (Optional)
7. Mount the finished product on a black sheet of paper
with tape or glue stick.

Student Examples

landscapes or objects with your assigned iPad
(Only share the iPad with your table group)
-Example: Same landscape, but at different
angles/composition.
3. Email your best 2 photographs to
alliemtodd@gmail.com and write your name in
the subject line.
4. Teacher will print out the photographs in
black & white.
