Chapter 1: A Birthday Surprise
Ethan woke up, and immediately checked the clock. It was December 18 th, it
appears he was turning nineteen and he had an odd lack of excitement. What was
there to be excited about, he didnt have much to do and he didnt even have a
Pokmon. His childhood friend Lyra was turning nineteen as well, so he would like
hang out with her for their birthdays. Ethan got out of bed and stretched himself
out. Checking the mirror he looked like a bit of a disorganized mess, but he
proceeded downstairs anyways.
Almost immediately he was greeted by his loving mother by a warm hug and kiss
followed by Happy Birthday sweetie! I have an extra special surprise for your
birthday today! Im completely sure youll love it! Now come and eat breakfast! I
made you chocolate chip pancakes!
Ethan smiled, he found it fairly hard not to when his mom was this energetic. He sat
down, poured some syrup on his pancakes and began happily devouring them. After
finishing off his delicious breakfast, the doorbell rang. Upon answering the door it
was none of than his childhood friend Lyra, they had done everything together for
many years, until she had met some Silver guy and started hanging out with him all
the time.
Hey Ethan! Happy Birthday! Guess what! Your mom and my parents were talking to
Professor Elm and they arranged for us all to get our very own Pokmon! Isnt this
amazing! Silver and I are going to head on over to the lab right now, said Lyra, who
began happily skipping towards Elms lab after Ethan gave his own birthday wishes,
Silver following Lyra close behind and arrogantly smirking at Ethan.
Ethan immediately turned around and saw his mom smiling, probably at the joy she
could see on Ethans face. He immediately ran up and hugged his mom, thanking
her of course.
His mom asks, You really like your surprise honey?
Yeah of course thanks mom! This is such an amazing gift! Can I go pick my
Pokmon up now?
Of course, go have fun! Take great care of your new friend!

Ethan began running towards the Elm Pokmon lab and upon entering he could see
Elm showing off the three Pokmon to Silver and Lyra who seemed fairly indecisive.
Well, if it isnt Ethan! How are you my good boy! Here to pick your birthday present
are we? Take care choosing him, for the one you choose shall be your partner for
life, the energetic voice of Professor Elm was quite a wonderful thing to hear with
the circumstances.
Ethan joined Silver and Lyra who looked like they were mentally debating the
choices. One being a light green quadruped with a leaf on its head and big red eyes
that seemed like it is trying to show off, but it looked quite proud of itself. The
second being an energetic little blue bipedal reptile that seemed to be dancing
around a little, a tad uncaring of whats going on, and just enjoying itself, and
finally, another biped with a furry blue on the top of the body, but a milk colour on
the bottom, with red spots on it that occasionally have flames coming out of them,
this one seems to be relaxed and sometimes rubs the back of its head.
Professor Elm, introducing the first of the three Pokmon, says, This here is
Chikorita, a grass type.
Hmm Shes a fairly cute Pokmon. But I dont think that is right for me It seems
like Lyra wants this one, thought Ethan.
Elm, continuing his introductions, points towards the reptile and says, The
energetic one before you is Totodile, the water type!
This little guy has quite a bit of spunk to him, seems like hes going to have a good
time no matter what happens!
Elm crouches down and scratches the final Pokmons head causing it to let out a
content quiiil, and this little guy here is Cyndaquil, the fire type.
I want him.
Silver looks like he is about to speak up and motions towards Cyndaquil, however,
Ethan immediately exclaims energetically Ill take Cyndaquil!
Professor Elm hands Ethan the pokeball as the Cyndaquil looks up at Ethan and
sounds happy as it waddles towards Ethan, who crouches down and picks up the fire
mouse Pokmon and hugs it. Silver, who looks annoyed, says What! I wanted him!
Well I guess Im just going to pick Totodile!
Elm then hands Silver Totodiles pokeball as the Totodile stops dancing as it tilts his
head and looks at Silver. After looking at Silver for a moment it resumes its carefree

dance.
Lyra looks at the fairly disappointed Chikorita (as it was picked last) and goes down
to her level and pets it saying Awww, dont worry, were going to be the best of
friends! Common guys! Lets go play outside!
Professor Elm stops Lyra before she hurries out to give her Chikoritas pokeball.
Silver, still annoyed at Ethan, says Ethan! I wanted Cyndaquil! Whatever! I bet its
weak anyways!
Ethan, annoyed, proclaims He isnt weak! Ill battle you and your Totodile to prove
it! You ready little guy!
Cyndaquil nods at Ethan as they leave the building and get ready for a battle. Silver
and Totodile follow shortly thereafter. Lyra says Come on guys! This is silly, lets
just have fun!
The two new trainers disregard Lyra as they lock eyes, to which Silver proclaims
Totodile! Use scratch!
The energetic Big Jaw almost immediately goes from happily dancing to a fierce
battle stance as he leaps towards Cyndaquil who quickly looks towards Ethan, then
looks towards the charging Totodile as Ethan proclaims Duck and use tackle!
When the gap between Totodile and Cyndaquil is almost closed, Cyndaquil hits the
deck and Totodile crashes into the ground behind Cyndaquil. Totodile gets up,
shakes a bit, but is subsequently tackled in the back by Cyndaquil causing the Big
Jaw Pokmon to once again fall down, but this time it struggles a little bit to get up,
as he hears Totodile, use Rage!
The fairly hurt reptile seems to focus a bit as it looks quite angry now, and it moves
in for a punch, however with the recoil and damage it has taken so far, it collapses
mid-attack and Silver runs towards it to cradle it.
Humph, whatever, you got lucky, I will beat you later. You can count on it. Lyra! You
battle him while he thinks hes so tough, said Silver, annoyed as he walks to the
side and begins giving berries to his Pokmon.
Oh come on! Thats just silly, I dont want to-, Lyra was interrupted by her
Chikorita nudging her as if it wanted to battle, almost like it wants to prove herself.
Alright, if you want to we can, assuming Ethan is willing to!
Well, Cyndaquil did just battle, so, if hes all right with then sure, Ethan looks at
Cyndaquil who gives a battle cry. All right, lets do this buddy!

Chikorita, use Solar Beam, Lyra exclaims, however, Chikorita simply goes from its
confident looking posture to tilting its head and looking towards Lyra, confused.
Oh! I guess you dont know that yet, use, umm, use growl! The leaf Pokmon
regains its confident look as it lets out a chiikuuu causing Cyndaquil to become
less wary. Now, use tackle! Chikorita brushes the ground a bit, and then begins
charging towards Cyndaquil.
Use smokescreen Cyndaquil, exclaimed Ethan as Cyndaquil nods and causes a
large cloud of smoke that causes Chikorita to accidently charge right into the wall of
the Elm Pokmon lab. The smoke begins to clear out as Ethan says Cyndaquil, use
another smokescreen! However, this time, upon opening its mouth, the Fire
mouses back lights up as little bolts of fire shoot towards the recovering Chikorita
who gets hit hard by the recently learned Ember attack. Alright Cyndaquil! Finish
her off with tackle!
Hold on no! Thats enough, says Lyra, running up to her recovering Chikorita,
picking it up and stroking it.
Well now that was a couple of fantastic battles Ethan! You are all trainers with quite
a bit of potential, now, could I ask a favour from you all, asked Professor Elm who
exited the lab clapping. After we let your Pokmon rest of course!
Chapter 2: Preparations in New Bark Town!
The trio walked back into the Pokmon lab as they sent their Pokmon to their
pokeballs to be taken care of. Professor Elm takes the three pokeballs and hands
them over his assistants who move off to another room.
Well now! Im sure you three are fairly curious as to what I would like you to do for
me! Ive been talking with Professor Oak and he asked me if I could find someone to
collect data for the Pokedex like he had asked once before! After seeing you all
battle, I would hope you would all go on this journey as a personal favour from me,
the trio nods. Fantabulous! Allow me to get you started on your quest by giving you
these pokeballs! Professor Elm went to his assistant, who handed him a box. This
box contains fifteen pokeballs! Five for each of you, Elm walked up to each of the
newly appointed trainers and handed them their pokeballs. Now, I recommend you
talk to your respective families before embarking on this master quest! Oh! And
dont forget your Pokmon of course! The trio had been given their pokeballs back
and Ethan immediately let his Cyndaquil out of his ball, which stretched out and
yawned happily while hopping onto Ethans head.
The trio left the lab and went to their homes; Silver simply went with Lyra to her
house, no one knew much about his family considering he had never talked about

them before. Upon entering his house, Ethan was immediately greeted by his
mother who ran up to him and grabbed Cyndaquil excitedly who had immediately
begun flailing about in her hands before relaxing a bit. What a cute little Pokmon
you chose! Im sure you two will become super close! Whats this little guys name,
asked Ethans ecstatic mother.
His names Cyndaquil! A fire type, he has already won his first two battles!
Professor Elm wanted me to go on a journey with the Pokedex, and gave me five
pokeballs to start off, said Ethan, causing his mother to lose her smile and she
stopped playing with Cyndaquil.
So, you want to leave home? I guess if this is what you really want to do I shouldnt
stop you. Hmm, I know, take this Pokegear! That way you can talk to me on a
regular basis! Do you know how to call with it honey?
Yes mom, I know how to use the Pokegear.
Its so easy! Just select the person you want to talk to and hit call! Gee, isnt that
convenient? Ethan had no idea why she said that. Upon letting Cyndaquil onto the
floor gently, his mother gave Ethan a hug and a kiss on his forehead, then said, Be
safe, and have fun, okay darling? Its always hard when the journey begins, you
have to find your way and make new friends. But I know theres nothing you cant
do; I know you got the power inside of you!
Upon packing some supplies for the trip inside his backpack, Ethan and his new
partner Cyndaquil walked to the door and gave his mom a final goodbye hug before
parting for his journey.
Chapter 3: The Journey Begins!
In the distance, Ethan could see Lyra and Silver had a small head start in their
journey. However, Ethan felt like he was significantly more ready for this, he had
been looking forward to something like this to happen to him, and was anticipating
his own end goal, of becoming the champion, something he was sure he wanted to
do after his first two victories as a trainer. With his pal Cyndaquil resting
comfortably on his shoulder, he knew he could, and would become the best, like no
other.
Upon passing the sign that stated Route 29, Ethan noticed that Lyra and Silver were
hiding behind a bush examining something. When he got closer, they seemed to be
spying on three bird Pokmon that were very cautiously eyeing one another. One of
them, Ethan could immediately recognize as Pidgey, a small chubby brown bird with
a pink beak that occasionally hopped to turn and look at the other two birds,
sometimes getting distracted by miscellaneous things on the ground that it would

peck at. Lyra, who still had yet to notice Ethans presence, seemed to be watching
the navy blue bird with a light coloured belly and red forehead she identified to
Silver (who also had yet to notice Ethan) as Taillow. Taillow seemed a lot more
focused on the other two birds and had its wings outstretched. Some quick
observation revealed that Taillow appeared to be guarding an Oran Berry,
occasionally checking on it to make sure it hadnt been stolen. The third bird was a
black and white bird, with a little cowlick on its head. It seemed fairly unaware, or
possibly simply uncaring of the situation, occasionally tilting its head and pecking at
the ground. Looking it up in the Pokedex revealed it was called Starly.
Silver said Im going to try catching that Taillow! It looks like its really tough!
Silver had got up and ran in front of the three birds, causing them all to look at him
briefly, excluding Taillow, who immediately began focusing on Silver. He threw a
pokeball at Taillow, however, upon the pokeball getting close in proximity to the Tiny
Swallow Pokmon, Taillow outstretched its wings and knocked the pokeball away,
causing it to hit Starly who proceeded to go into the ball, causing it to make a
beeping sound and glow red slightly. Silver, shocked, stared at the pokeball. One
shake. Two shakes. Three shakes. Complete silence. And the pokeball settles as the
center button on the ball goes back to normal and stops beeping. Starly, although
not intentionally, had been caught! Silver walked up to the ball, although he had no
intention of catching Starly, he was still very happy about catching him, quietly, he
said Were still going to become the best, no matter the intentions.
Lyra hugged Silver and congratulated him; Ethan then spoke up, and said Yeah,
Congratulations on your first catch. Their concentration on the birds was shown
very clearly as Lyra and Silver were both startled when Ethan spoke. But I suppose
Ill try catching one of them now! He walked into the opening as the two birds were
now looking at Ethan, and he looked back at the two and carefully decided who he
wanted to join him. You only get one first catch, after all. He looked towards
Cyndaquil, who was happily perched on his shoulder, he looks at Ethan, and they
both nod as Cyndaquil hops to the ground. Now use Ember buddy! Cyndaquil
nodded once again as he opens his mouth and fire bolts start flying towards Pidgey
who takes the full force of the attack, as it came fairly unexpected. The Pidgey
springs to action after recovering as it takes to the skies and begins flapping its
wings heavily as a gust of wind pushes Cyndaquil back and into a tree.
Lyra exclaims Poor Cyndaquil! as Silver points out how Taillow seems to be slowly
trying to get away, prompting Lyra to begin chasing after it, to which Silver follows.
Ethan then looks towards Cyndaquil as he exclaims Use smokescreen Cyndaquil!
The Fire Mouse shakes his head, gets back on his feet and opens his mouth to which
a cloud of smoke engulfs the area. The Pidgey, who flies above the cloud, frantically
looks around for Cyndaquil as it begins trying to clear the smoke by flapping its
wings once again. Hit him with tackle! As the Pidgey clears the field, Cyndaquil

seems to off the floor as Pidgey begins scoping out the ground hastily. The Pidgey
turns around and sees Cyndaquil hurriedly climbing up a nearby tree as it dives and
takes Pidgey to the ground. As the Tiny Bird Pokmon attempts to get up, Ethan
throws a pokeball at it. The Pidgey is sent inside the ball as it starts beeping. One
shake. Ethan holds his breathe. Two shakes. The Pokmon breaks out of the pokeball
as it turns to Cyndaquil and charges into him. Cyndaquil once again is sent to a tree
as Ethan proclaims Come on buddy! Try another Ember! You can do this!
Cyndaquil gets back on its feet as it lets out another flurry of bolts at Pidgey, who
begins flying around but is hit partially causing it to fall to the ground, to which it
recovers shortly thereafter, although low on energy. Cyndaquil, use Leer! The Fire
Mouse glares at the flying type as hesitates, then proceeds to circle around and
tackle Cyndaquil causing him to get knocked back towards Ethan. Pidgey, very tired,
starts proceeding quickly towards Cyndaquil in an attempt to finish it off. Cyndaquil,
struggling to get up, is almost hit by the blow when Ethan runs towards him, grabs
him, and whips a pokeball at Pidgey immediately stopping its flight and putting it in
the ball. Ethan stops paying attention to the ball, only listening for the outcome as
he starts cradling Cyndaquil and treating its wounds with some medicine that he
had packed away. Im sorry buddy, I should have ran sooner, are you feeling any
better. Cyndaquil nods as they hear a clicking sound, Ethan looks up, and Pidgey
had been caught. Ethan, with Cyndaquil in his arms, picked up Pidgeys pokeball,
said, Well, we have a new companion, but we need to get you two some help.
Chapter 4: Pokmon Emergency!
Ethan briefly wondered how Lyra and Silver were doing in their attempt to catch the
Taillow. He had more pressing matters at hand however, he had to make haste to
the Cherrygrove City Pokmon center and have his Pokmon taken care of. With
Cyndaquil cradled in Ethans arms and Pidgey in her pokeball, Ethan began running
towards the next city.
Dont worry buddy, Im going to get you the help you need soon, said Ethan, while
rubbing Cyndaquils back.
Suddenly, Ethan is ambushed by a group of Rattata and Bidoof, seeming to assume
that Ethan has some food that is fine for the taking. Thinking it might distract them,
Ethan retrieves a Razz berry he had in his pocket and when he is about to throw it, a
brown blur speeds by and steals the berry, the blur seems to stop moving as in the
distance Ethan sees a Zigzagoon, chuckling before escaping with the Razz berry.
Great, there are probably more of those too, said an increasingly worried Ethan. In
an attempt to find an alternate way out, Ethan turns around, hoping he can make it
back to New Bark Town. Upon turning around, he sees that Patrat have taken to
joining his rodent-like brethren. Of course Now what? The group of rodents
begin closing in on Ethan as two familiar voices are heard.

Chikorita, use Razor leaf, said a female voice.

Totodile, water gun, said a male voice.
As those words are heard, a stream of water sends a Bidoof into a nearby tree and
some sharp edged leaves land hits on the Rattata. Ethan turns to face the source as
he sees none other than Lyra and Silver join him with their Pokmon in the center of
all the devious rodents.
Good job hot shot, you seem to have come across more then you could handle eh,
noted a snarky Silver.
Its a good thing we came in the nick of time huh Ethan! What happened
anyways, asked a worried Lyra.
After I finished capturing Pidgey, Cyndaquil was exhausted, as was Pidgey so I
started hurrying towards Cherrygrove where I got ambushed by inconvenient
writing, explained Ethan as Lyra and Silver nodded.
Lyra added, Its a good thing you got great friends like us or you would be in
serious trouble!
Almost immediately after she said that, reinforcements in the form of many more
Rattata, Bidoof, and Patrat come to aid their rodent brethren in ambushing the trio.
Well that sucks, said the group simultaneously.
Suddenly, a blue blur blazes by the trio before turning transparent. An unidentifiable
battle cry is let out as a ball of energy flies into the sky, capturing the attention of
everyone there. Subsequently, blue meteors begin flying down, bombarding the
ambushing rodents while the trio is unscathed.
What just happened, asked a highly confused Lyra.
I have no idea but Im not arguing with it, lets get to the Cherrygrove Pokmon
center, exclaimed Ethan, the teens nodding as they run towards their destination.
Chapter 5: A moment of relaxation?
