11.0 Students compute the variance and the standard deviation of a distribution of data.
14.0 Students organize and describe distributions of data by using a number of different methods, including frequency
tables, histograms, standard line graphs and bar graphs, stem-and-leaf displays, scatterplots, and box-and-whisker
plots.
16.0 Students know basic facts concerning the relation between the mean and the standard deviation of a sampling
distribution and the mean and the standard deviation of the population distribution.
Big Ideas/Unit Goals:
How the population and the sample standard deviation designation matters?
Unit Summary:
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the subject of statistics as a science of data. There is data abound in this information age; how
to extract useful knowledge and gain a sound understanding in complex data sets has been more of a challenge. In this course, students will focus on
the fundamentals of statistics, which may be broadly described as the techniques to collect, clarify, summarize, organize, analyze, and interpret
numerical information.
