Deploy Guest VMs and vCenter from


Inventory and Integrate ESXi Hosts

Task
Deploy four VM guest machines from the datastore whose information is as follows:
Win2k8-www-1 uses VLAN 110 and IP address 10.0.110.111.
Win2k8-www-2 uses VLAN 110 and IP address 10.0.110.112.
Win2k8-www-3 uses VLAN 110 and IP address 10.0.110.113.
vCenter uses VLAN 1 (Native or 0) and IP address 10.0.1.100.
Username/password for all three is Administrator/Cc1edc01.
When vCenter is fully deployed, add both ESXi1 and ESXi2 hosts to the cluster.

Configuration
Navigate to ESXi1, click the Configuration tab, click Storage, right-click datastore1, and
click Browse Datastore.

Find and click the folder for Win2k8-www-1, find the .vmx file in the right pane, right-click it, and
click Add to Inventory.

FEEDBACK

Click Next.

Click Next.

Click Finish.

Repeat these tasks to add Win2k8-www-2 and Win2k8-www-3.

Navigate again to ESXi1, click the Configuration tab, click Storage, right-click datastore1,
and click Browse Datastore.

Find and click the folder for vCenter, find the .vmx file in the right pane, right-click it, and click
Add to Inventory.

When all hosts are successfully in ESXi1 inventory, right-click each one and click Edit
Settings.

For Network Adapter 1, for vCenter, choose the port group named vCenter. For the other three
'www' guests, choose the port group named VM-110. Click OK when finished with each.

When completed, if you navigate to the Configuration tab and click Networking, you should
see all of the VM guests appear in vSwitch2, as shown here.

Give vCenter a moment to fully boot and start all VMware-related services.

Open a new vSphere VI client and point it to the vCenter server at 10.0.1.100, and log in using
the appropriate user name/password.

Click Create a datacenter in the right pane.

Name it CCIE-DC. In the right pane, click Add a host.

Enter the IP address 10.0.115.11 for ESXi1, username root, and password cciedc01. Click
Next.

Click Yes for the self-signed cert.

Click Next.

Click Next.

Click Next.

Click Next.

Click Finish.

Give it a moment to activate the vCenter agent on ESXi1 and add it to the datacenter.

After a short while, it should appear online and you should see all of the guests.

Right-click CCIE-DC in vCenter and click Add Host.

Enter the IP address 10.0.115.12 for ESXi2, the username root, and the password cciedc01.
Click Next and go through all of the same screens to add that host.

When the host is added, navigate to ESXi2, click the Configuration tab, click Storage, select
Datastores, and notice that datastore1 is not yet active, but is coming online.

The shared datastore should fully come online and be listed as normal.
