Vision, Mission, and Goals


Education leaders have the knowledge and ability to ensure the success of all students by
facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a school or
district vision of learning supported by the school community.
Quality Indicator 1: Develop and Articulate a Vision
Candidate (1C1): The leader candidate understands that a vision of learning must
promote success for all students and be based on relevant knowledge and current theories.
Quality Indicator 2: Implement and Steward a Vision
Candidate (1C2): The leader candidate understands the importance of motivating staff,
students, and families to achieve the vision of the school.

Success of all students is more easily achieved when there is a clear


plan for the educational process. A school-wide mission statement created
by a school-wide committee including the Principal is the first step in this
plan. After a clearly articulated and relevant mission statement is created,
the faculty needs to discuss how they can fulfill this mission within each
classroom. The Principal should see that there is follow-through with the
faculty and this statement is communicated to parents as well for them to
understand the focus of their child's school.
The vision must drive the school to reach its goals. Developing this
vision is based on the needs of the students and the community. A school
leader must also be able to articulate this vision with clarity in order for it to
be a success. Sharing this vision with all stake holders involved will aid in
the transformative process that all schools must undergo. Using the latest in
educational knowledge to guide your vision gives the school an edge on its
path to success. The most current practices allows the students and
teachers access to the best models for a successful classroom and school.

It is important for a school leader to motivate their students, staff and


community to grasp the great importance for success. Stake holders must
see the importance of the vision. Once they see the urgency and
significances of that vision they will be the forerunners of it.
