3Nach der Rckkehr galt es zunchst die alten wissenschaftlichen und technischen Mitarbeiter des Museums ausfindig
zu machen, ohne deren Hilfe eine Bewltigung der Aufgabe unmglich war. Im archologischen Institut der Akademie fand
sich noch eine Anzahl der lteren Fachleute vor, an ihrer Spitze W.E. Koslowska, die sofort von uns fr die Bergungs- und
Neuaufbauarbeiten bernommen wurden. Mit ihrer Hilfe gelang es auch, die alten Museumsarbeiter und Techniker zu
ermitteln. Mit diesen Hilfskrften und einer Anzahl von Hilfsarbeitern konnte Dr. Grimm die Verpackungsarbeiten in der
Lawra beginnen [60, 257].

only enriched the archaeological collection of NMUH, but also enabled the deeper manifestation of
some themes in the exhibition Stone Age in Ukraine.

ANTHROPOMORPHIC FIGURINES FROM THE TRYPILLIAN SETTLEMENT
KOLOMYYSCHYNA II
The complex of anthropomorphic figurines from the NMUH collection is introduced here into
scientific circulation. These statuettes are originated from the excavations of the Trypillian settlement
Kolomyyschyna II (stage B/II) near the village Khalepya, Kyiv region, which were conducted by
the Trypillian expedition under the guidance of T.S. Passek in 1939. In 5 unearthed ground-based
dwellings and so-called kitchen piles 57 intact and fragmentary figurines were discovered. While
10 of them were published before, 47 are promulgated here for the first time. Among them there are
schematized male and female statuettes, which stand on single conical leg with detailed foot. Also
among them are sedentary figurines with one leg or two split ones. This published work allows to
reveal some unknown features of statuettes and to define concretely the attributes, which have been
already known. Moreover, two painted figurines are present, which indicate the connection with
Khaniv and Volodymyriv groups of Trypillian population. In general, this complex demonstrates
the establishment of Trypillian traditions of anthropomorphic plastic art in Kolomiyschyna group of
Middle Dnieper Region. These traditions were continued in later sites of Kolomiyschyna I.

STONE AXES COLLECTION OF CATACOMB CULTURES
FROM SLOVIANSK REGIONAL NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM COLLECTION
The lack of a consolidated view on the significance of th estone axes in the Catacomb culture burials
stimulates lively discussions among the scholars. The topic therefore has not lost its relevance. The
Slvyansk Regional History Museum houses quite a large collection of the stone axes, its moulds and
fragments, information of which have not yet been introduced to academia at all or have been partly
introduced. The stone axes are insignia of power and underline the status of the deceased during his
lifetime.

NEW FINDS OF THE ARCHAIC SCYTHIAN DAGGERS
FROM THE NMUH COLLECTION
In the article unpublished specimens of bladed weapons, dates to 7th 6th centuries BC, from the
National Museum of Ukrainian History collection are analyzed. The finds feature uncatagolised

examples and artifacts of O. Bobrynskys collection. They have been probably found during prerevolutionary excavation of the burial mounds in the Middle Dnipro region. Analogies from the intact
complexes show that uncatalogised finds may be dated quite wide, up to a century.

The article considers functional bone elements of the bridle from early Scythian burial mounds
near Budky village, Romny district, Sumy region. Short historiography of reconstruction attempts
is outlined. Graphical reconstruction of plausible shape is shown and mechanism of its action is

FROM THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF UKRAINIAN HISTORY COLLECTION
The article is dedicated to perfume glass vessels of the Roman time from Olbia in the collection of the
National Museum of Ukrainian History. These objects composes the majority of glass artifacts from
the museum archaeological collection. Diversity of forms allows us to assume a production of this
glass vessels group at various glassmaking centers of the Roman Empire.

TERRACOTTA SCULPTURES FROM OLBIA EXCAVATIONS IN THE NMUH
(BASED ON EXPOSITION MATERIALS)
NMUH displays a wide range of terracotta figurines of the 6th 5th centuries BC originated from
Olbia (modern Parutyne village of Mykolaiv region). The majority of terracotta figurines were
produced locally. They are manufactured by the same technological and stylistic principles as similar
ones in Greece, Asia Minor and ancient cities of the Northern Black Sea coast. The classification of
terracotta figurines from the NMUH exposition based on chronological groups has been elaborated
in the article.

STONE ARTEFACTS OF ANTIQUE PERIOD IN THE NMUH COLLECTION
The National Museum of Ukrainian History houses interesting collections of the Ancient Period.
Museum has acquired a large amount of materials for more than a hundred years of its existence.
The collections currently reckon up more than 20 thousands of items. There are only about 300 stone

artifacts of the Ancient Period in the museum so far. These are fragments of tomb steles, pedestals
with dedicatory inscriptions, fragments of decrees, which are also epigraphic monuments; things of
everyday household life; samples of various architectural details of religious and public buildings and
other items. There are remains of paint on some exhibits. The opinion of ancient art as achromatic
one had lasted untill the middle of the 19th century, then it started to change. But only due to modern
technology, researchers have identified a compound of ancient pigments and restored the original
state of some items. The assemblage of stone artefacts is a part of the current National Museum of
Ukrainian History collection of the Ancient Period.

PENDANTS FROM RADYMYCHI BURIAL MOUNDS NEAR ANTONOVKA VILLAGE
(CHERNIHIV REGION) FROM THE NMUH COLLECTION
The article is devoted to publications of archaeological collection of bronze pendants from
Radymychi burial mounds near Antonivka village, Surazkiy district, Chernihiv region, found during
M.P.Yeremenkos excavations in 1894. The collection is kept in the National Museum of Ukrainian
History so far. Besides round and crescent pendants and bells as well, which were typical and
widespread within Slavic lands, an original round plague with a horse-shaped pendant and small
headdress pendants were found in the burial mounds. Most artifacts have never been published before.

ANCIENT RUS PENDANTS-AMULETS OF SPELL MAGIC (1013TH CENTURIES):
POSITION IN THE COSTUME AND SEMANTICS
(BASED ON THE NMUH MATERIALS)
The bronze pendantsamulets in the form of miniature everyday items (such as keys, spoons, scoops,
combs, needle cases, and so on) are closely connected with Slavic religious beliefs and were in use in
Rus in 11th-13th centuries. They were united, by means of special chain holders, in a set and, thus
became powerful protective amulets. There are 18 items in the Museums collection that are similar to
these artifacts. The article considers these items, the territory on which they were used, their place in
costumes, and semantic meanings. Most part of the artifacts has never been published before.

Basing on the archeological finds from the collection of the Anchors Historical Museum, the article
explores an Ancient Rus settlement in Smiach village. The author tries to determine the territory of
Ancient Rus settlement and its dynamics during the 10th the first half of 13th centuries due to the
dating of rims morphological characteristics and the place where pottery was found.

FLAGS FROM THE LIBERATION STRUGGLE OF UKRAINE MUSEUM (PRAGUE)
IN THE NMUH COLLECTION
The article identifies ownership and historical significance of three flags from the Liberation Struggle
of Ukraine Museum (Prague) collection, that is Ukrainian Zaporizhzhya Regiment (1917),
Cooperative courses of Ukrainian peasant unions (1920s), L.Ukrainka Ukrainian Plast the second
battalion of young ladies (1931). The flags now are the part of the National Museum of Ukrainian
History collection. The author examines the activity of institutions and organizations related to the
museum artefacts.

ANCIENT CITIES OF TYRAS AND NIKONION COINS
IN THE NMUH NUMISMATICS COLLECTION. V. GRINKOVSKYI OLLECTION
The article deals with an addition to the museum numismatics collection due to the Grinkovskyi
collection. He had gathered it for thirty years investigating the Black Sea coast. The collection includes
rare and even unique examples of ancient coins of the Northern Black Sea cities. The most valuable
among them are coins minted in the cities of Tyras and Nikonion. These coins are evidence of the
emergence of ancient cities already in the early period of IVI century BC. The catalogue of Nikonion
and Tyras coins, housed in the museum, is inlcuded into the article.

(Chernihiv region). The article gives quantitative and qualitative descriptions of money circulation
within Ukrainian lands due to the study of treasures composition and topography. Treasures that
include the Western European, Golden Hord, Rus and Moscow coins are emphasized. Besides, the
author focuses on the treasures consist of the local minted coins. They are considered as the best
illustration of historical events in Ukraine, having been commented from the money market and trade
relations perspective.

NOTES TO THE PROBLEM OF KYIV TYPE MONETARY INGOTS DATING
The article analyzes critically current data on the dating of the Kyiv type hexagonal silver ingots.
Treasures dating by the 1st half and midd-12th century from Burge and Mysholovka contained the
Chernihiv type ingots only, which were technological and morphological prototypes of the Kyiv type
ingots. The emergence of the Kyiv type ingots was possible only in the2nd half of 12th century and the
use of ingots lasted untill early 14th century.

PARTICIPATION OF COSSACK STARSHYNA GOVERNANCE IN THE ELECTIONS OF
KYIV-PECHERSK LAVRA ARCHIMANDRITE DURING K. ROZUMOVSKYI REGENCY
The article examines the Cossack participation in the election of Archimandrite of Kiev-Pechersk
Lavra during the reign of Kyrylo Rozumovskyi. The author drew attention to the endeavour of
Kyrylo Rozumovskyi and his milieu to return prerogative of the Cossack Hetman, administrative and
judicial authorities in the ecclesiastical realm. This participation, inspite of being formal, is evidence
of increasing of the Cossack leader status and legitimization of its role in the political and legal realm
in the Hetmanate. Cossack starshyna took part in the election of the monastery archimandrites Luke
Bilousovych and Zosima Valkevych. The tradition that Hetman legitimize the election of the Church
leaders began to emerge at the beginning of the National Revolution in the mid-17th century. Close
relationships between the Cossack starshyna and the clergy resulted in lively discussion of urgent
ecclesiastical problems. It is not by chance that the restriction of their right to elect freely the clergy,
made by Russian authorities, became a major focus of public attention within Ukrainian elite.

ASSUMPTION CATHEDRAL RENEWAL IN 18201830S
The report is devoted to the unknown historical facts of the renewal of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavras
Assumption Cathedral in 18201830s. Based on the archival sources, the study reveals the process of
murals and icons renovation, creation of new art compositions, renewal of icons settings within the
Great Iconostasis. The new data about the artists, masters, charity providers, who had contributed to
the renewal of the main cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, have been introduced to academia.

IN THE CENTRAL COUNCIL OF UKRAINE ACTIVITIES (MARCH, 1917 APRIL, 1918)
The article discusses Ukrainian language functioning in the Ukrainian Peoples Republic over the rule
of the Central Council. The Council strengthened the status of Ukrainian as the state language at the
legislative level, and made efforts to implement fully its functioning at all levels. The author analyzes
the UPR legislation and presents specific examples of its implementation.

ST. GEORGE THE DRAGON SLAYER ICON OF 16TH CENTURY
FROM THE NMUH COLLECTION: THE STORY OF ACQUISITION
The article is dedicated to the story of asquision of the St. George the Dragon Slayer icon (16th
century), which is now the part of the National Museum of Ukrainian History collection. Based on six
epistolary sources published for the first time, the article shows that O. Maydaniuk obtained the icon
in 1913 at the request of D. Shcherbakivskyi, a Head of Historical and Ethnographic Departments of
the Kyiv Museum of Art, Industry and Science.

THE PREHISTORY AND PROTOHISTORY MUSEUM IN KYIV (19421943):
STRUCTURE AND STAFF
The Central Historical Museum continued to function under the name The Prehistory and Protohistory
Museum during the occupation of Kyiv. Local scholars and technicians were involved in the work with
collections. In the NMUH archive, the significant amount of documents about staff of the museum is
maintained. In this article nearly 20 documents from the NMUH archive have been published for the
first time and the information about 40 employees is assembled.

The article is devoted to the activities of Russian statesman O. Menshykov in Kyiv from 1706 to 1720.
Carrying out the orders of Peter I, he chose the place for the construction of fortifications and was
occupied with the renewal of the city defense system according to the European model. An interesting
and poorly understood fact in Menshikovs biography is that he was involved in the restoration of
Kyiv-Pechersk monastery after the fire in 1718.

BRONZE AND EARLY IRON AGE MATERIALS
FROM YURKOVYTSIA HILL EXCAVATIONS
The article deals with materials from the excavations in Yurkovytsya Hill related to the period before
the existence of settlement of Zarubyntsi time. Finds of the Early Bronze Age are related to monuments
of the Kyiv group of Iskovshchyna type. Early Iron Age is introduced by pottery typical for northern
sights of Chornoliska culture and of Pidhirtsivskyi type as well.

POTTERS POSAD IN 20132015
The article analyzes metal artefacts found during three field seasons of archaeological excavations of
Vyshgorod posad. Details of belt sets, adornments, crosses, a coin and a stamp are the most interesting
artefacts. Along with the products of local origin, there are also imported ones. Materials are evidence
of material and spiritual culture of the Vyshgorod posad population, adding significantly to the existing
information about the socio-economic development of the city.

ANCIENT BUILDINGS REMAINS FOUND DURING EXCAVATIONS
AT 1012 MYKHAILIVSKA STREET IN KYIV
The article discusses the results of the rescue archaeological excavations in 2006 and 2014, which
were held on the territory being intended for building and located on the street Mykhaylivska, 10
12, in the Shevchenkivskyi district in Kyiv. Excavations resulted in discovering and researching the
remains of three auxiliary buildings of ancient time dated 11th-12th centuries. Such data can be used

for the statistical analysis of the population density of this territory of duting the of Kyivan Rus and as
addittion to the existing archaeological map of the Kyiv city.
