THE POWER OF VISION

2
PART I: SPEECH

This speech is meant to provide the hope that with every will and with every vision,
whatever is sought after is always achievable. As a student, we all have great hopes that the
education we so much pursue will not be in vain. The same hopes are hedged upon great vision
that at the end of it all, the so much desired result of either knowledge, skill or a pursuit of
vocation will be realized, but only if we take a step at a time.
Hope in the Steps
Walking unto the unknown and uncertain world of academics and life, the mind
cannot but wander upon the words in the search of hope in the steps. Hope does
not worry about what will happen in the future, it just thinks of the small steps
that need to be taken during the journey.and that is the promise I hold on to,
that these steps will provide the hope so much sought.
With that minute thought, I find myself getting the courage to get going and
Trudge on. I move through the fields and mountains of books, tall as giraffes and
as sharp as any double-edged sword the eye ever laid upon. Hands will be
pierced in the process, sliced and bruised as each page is turned around in the
dawn and dusk, if only but a path to go through is to be found.
At the end of it all, the sound of conquest will be heard from the hills afar, in
what seemed to have been topless mountains on their way. The rocks were
always so hard on our tired soles as though we had no protective gear on. Our
legs have cried for mercy over the last few years from the endless effort of
climbing these mountainous books. But we had to keep the hope and keep
moving; we had.hope in the steps.
Every so often, a dim light appears in the yonder, offering some hope, if only but
to find some little rest and some water to quench this thirst of the knowledge we

have so much longed after. Only for it to disappear as we encroach it; it was enroute elsewhere, not ours for the day. Or was all this hope but a mass delusion?
Moving further seems the only way now, the pain and fatigue at their worst.
Surely, a break is neededI hear they call it summer break. But it is always past
midnight for the daylight savings to come. Others call it time to sleep. Our hour
of sleep has come, cuddling is the only solace we get, but we must move on and
continue having hope in the steps.
We are finally there, the hope in the steps is coming into fruition. We have
arrived at the base. I hear it is called graduation. But there is no time to celebrate
as yet. Only then are we all looking at each other and notice that time had taken
the toll on us. We have left the world of childhood behind. But first things first,
and despite the aging effect, lettersinterviewsjobs in that order!
You see, I was once told that a journey of a thousand miles begins with only one
step. But together, these steps added up to millions of small steps. I had become a
sojourner. We may well have chosen not to take up the offer of that first step. We
had the choice to alight along the way. That would have meant that the steps we
had embarked upon had no hope in them, that our perceived destination was but
a mirage.
Obstacles along the way sharpened our minds, but with each small step, hope
became more crystal clear.
Frustrations, uncertainties, and fear were not uncommon. But every small step
added with a pinch of hop crushed these doubts.
One small step is all it requires to succeed. Top it up with multiple steps, and
therein, you will find that there was always hope in the steps.

THE POWER OF VISION

PART II: PRACTICES/BEHAVIORS IMPORTANT TO THE POWER OF VISION

The practices and behaviours that I believe are important to the power of vision
embark with being diligent to the course. By this, it is crucial that for every perceived vision,
the steps that must be embarked upon are followed with without wavering. A vision provides
for the much needed meaning and orientation for individuals and organizations, and is a
powerful driving force that provides for a systematic practice and on-going development. The
power of vision however needs to be taken with the needed caution as the enthusiasm usually
noticed at the beginning is culpable to providing for the dangers of embarking on too many
activities, and ultimately overloading the mental process (Martin, McCormack, Fitzsimons &
Spirig, 2014).
According to Manning & Curtis (2015), in order for something to occur such as that
within leadership, one has to care about what needs to be done. People form an integral part of
this process, with the work to be done working synonymously with people. This requires a
shared vision. For example, in a past organization in which I have worked, the management are
usually the ones who had the vision of the company. Nonetheless, it was crucial for
organizational success that this vision is shared by others as it takes a combined effort to realize
these visions. The behaviours thus indoctrinated by the management included knowledge and
skills in understanding leadership variables, the importance of ethics, the power of vision, the
empowerment of people, multiplying effectiveness, performance management, leadership
principles, and developing others.
