Daniel & The Revelation

Introduction
This pamphlet has been comprised with reason to draw light of the great necessity in
searching and studying the prophetic book of the Old Testament, Daniel, and the
prophetic book of the New Testament, The Revelation, which were written for our
knowledge and understanding. There are many who argue that these books of prophecy
are beyond human grasp, that the unlearned cannot discern what is written within, yet the
chief men or pastors can, this may be seen as true, if these persons do not include gift of
the Holy Spirit, Who is the Teacher of Truth. And it is also truth, that the books
themselves were written hundreds of years in the past, by the prophets Daniel and John.
Nevertheless, they apply more now, if not ever, in the entire history of the earth. As for
this reason they are known as prophetic books, and it is the purpose of the Author to
reveal unto those living in these last days the things which were sealed, even from the
writers, earlier on, as what they were inspired to write was not even for their time, but
more so for ours. We have been given the greatest privilege and blessing to have the
complete Bible opened before us, with nothing hidden, these things are made known to us
so that we can know our place in history and be prepared for the things which are to
come. For it is by studying the past, we come into the present time, and from the present,
we can look into the future, all found in the two books of Daniel and Revelation. Though
all books of the Bible have the same cause and effect principle, it is the books of Daniel
and The Revelation which have been specifically written for the last days. There are
those, who claim to be Christians though do not believe that the prophecies of old relate
to our present day, and they will say such things as, these were written only as examples,
so that we, today, can learn from their experiences and have a better understanding in how
to lead a holy life. But this is not absolute truth. As sufficient evidence contained in both
the Scriptures and Spirit of Prophecy plainly states, history will repeat. All we now have
to do, within ourselves, is to humbly seek this profitable wisdom and once found conform
to the will of God. These prophecies comprehend that, which we may learn and
understand in our own time of earnest study, in which the Spirit of the LORD will teach
us. There is not merely, intellectual, yet experimental knowledge to behold once we
cooperate with the saving power of God. The promises of God for us are: When ye
therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand
in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Matthew 24:15, Many shall be
purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the
wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. Daniel 12:10, Blessed is he
that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which
are written therein: for the time is at hand. Revelation 1:3
Prayer; Dear Father in Heaven, please bless the reader of this work, as Thou has
promised for those who study the prophecies, may they experience the power of the
Holy Spirit as they read, and guide their understanding as they learn to acknowledge
Thy will for them. Lord help each of us, as we live to obey and worship Thou and Thy
Holy Word. Thank You. In Thy name I ask. Amen.

The following are a selection of extracts taken from the Spirit of
Prophecy, the writings of the prophet of the Lord, Sister Ellen. G.
White, encompassed together, with related portions of Scripture
mentioned, who answers with claritude and simplicity, on issues which
many have questioned in reference to Daniel and the Revelation
prophecies, not only in her time, but also for us:

Question 1:
Is the book of Daniel sealed and the Revelation a mystery?

Answer(s): Daniel and Revelation Have Been Unsealed

In the Revelation all the books of the Bible meet and end. Here is the
complement of the book of Daniel. One is a prophecy; the other a
revelation. The book that was sealed is not the Revelation, but that
portion of the prophecy of Daniel relating to the last days. The angel
commanded, "But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even
to the time of the end." Daniel 12:4 {AA 585.1}

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of
the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
Daniel 12:4.

The book that was sealed was not the book of Revelation, but that
portion of the prophecy of Daniel that related to the last days. . . . When
the book was opened, the proclamation was made, Time shall be no
longer. Revelation 10:6

The book of Daniel is now unsealed, and the revelation made by Christ
to John is to come to all the inhabitants of the earth. By the increase of
knowledge a people is to be prepared to stand in the latter days.
{CTr 338.4}

This book opens with the words, "The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which
God gave unto Him, to show unto His servants things which must shortly
come to pass; and He sent and signified it by His angel unto His servant
John; who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus
Christ, and of all things that he saw. Blessed is he that readeth, and they
that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are
written therein; for the time is at hand." Revelation 1:3 {18MR 22.4}

2
The books of Daniel and the Revelation are one. One is a prophecy, the
other a revelation; one a book sealed, the other a book opened. John
heard the mysteries which the thunders uttered, but he was commanded not
to write them. The special light given to John which was expressed in the
seven thunders was a delineation of events which would transpire under the
first and second angels' messages. It was not best for the people to know
these things, for their faith must necessarily be tested. In the order of God,
most wonderful and advanced truths would be proclaimed. The first and
second angels' messages were to be proclaimed, but no further light was to
be revealed before these messages had done their specific work. This is
represented by the angel standing with one foot on the sea, proclaiming with
a most solemn oath that time should be no longer. {1MR 99.3}

The professed Christian world has had opportunity to obtain light and
knowledge, but many close their eyes lest they shall see. Well-educated,
intelligent men preach at the Word and round the Word, but they do not
touch its inner meaning. They do not present truth in its genuine
simplicity. These men, regarding themselves as authority, tell their
hearers that it is not possible to understand either Daniel or the
Revelation. Many ministers make no effort to explain the Revelation.
They call it an unprofitable book to study. They look upon it as a sealed
book, because it contains the truth in figures and symbols. But the very
name that has been given to it--"Revelation"--is a denial of their
suppositions. The Revelation is a sealed book, but it is also an open
book, recording marvelous events that are to take place in the last days
of this earth's history. Its teachings are definite, not mystical and
unintelligible, and God would have us understand it. {ST, January 11,
1899 par. 5}

3
It was the Lion of the tribe of Judah who unsealed the book and gave to
John the revelation of what should be in these last days. {TM 115.2}
Daniel stood in his lot to bear his testimony which was sealed until the time
of the end, when the first angel's message should be proclaimed to our world.
These matters are of infinite importance in these last days; but while "many
shall be purified, and made white, and tried," "the wicked shall do wickedly:
and none of the wicked shall understand." Daniel 12:10. How true this is!
Sin is the transgression of the law of God; and those who will not accept the
light in regard to the law of God will not understand the proclamation of the
first, second, and third angel's messages. (Writers note: but for those who do
accept the light, of whom it is said, are the wise, they shall understand.) The
book of Daniel is unsealed in the revelation to John, and carries us
forward to the last scenes of this earth's history. {TM 115.3}

In view of the testimony of Inspiration, how dare men teach that the
Revelation is a mystery, beyond the reach of human understanding?
It is a mystery revealed, a book opened. The study of the Revelation
directs the mind to the prophecies of Daniel, and both present most
important instruction, given of God to men, concerning events to take
place at the close of this world's history. {GC88 341.2}

In the past teachers have declared Daniel and the Revelation to be sealed
books, and the people have turned from them. The veil whose apparent
mystery has kept many from lifting it, God's own hand has withdrawn from
these portions of His word. The very name "Revelation" contradicts the
statement that it is a sealed book. "Revelation" means that something of
importance is revealed. The truths of this book are addressed to those
living in these last days. We are standing with the veil removed in the holy
place of sacred things. We are not to stand without. We are to enter, not with
careless, irreverent thoughts, not with impetuous footsteps, but with
reverence and godly fear. We are nearing the time when the prophecies of
the book of Revelation are to be fulfilled. . . . {TM 113.3}

This book demands close, prayerful study, lest it be interpreted according to

the ideas of men, and false construction be given to the sacred word of the

4
Lord, which in its symbols and figures means so much to us. There is so
much that we positively must understand in order that we may shape our
course of action so that we shall not receive the plagues which are coming
upon the world. In the Revelation the deep things of God are portrayed.
Those whose hearts are wholly sanctified to God will be brought nigh to see
priceless gems through the telescope of faith. And as they apply the truth to
practice, the still deeper mysteries are stamped on the soul. Those thus
honored are to communicate to others that which they have received. And as
they do this, angels make the impression on hearts. {18MR 23.1} All who
understand the Word of God will realize that the things of minor importance
which in the past have occupied their time and consumed their strength have
deprived them of an experience and knowledge which they might have
obtained had they kept the faith untarnished by selfishness. Had they done
this, they would have understood the results of possessing that faith which
works by love and purifies the soul. {18MR 23.2} Let none think, because
they cannot explain the meaning of every symbol in the Revelation, that
it is of no use for them to search this book with deep, earnest longing
and intense desire to know the meaning of the truth it contains. The One
who revealed these mysteries to John can and will give the diligent
searcher for truth a foretaste of heavenly things, hereafter to be
realized. Rich blessings will come to him who reads and hears the words
of this prophecy, and keeps those things which are written therein.
{18MR 23.3}

We have the commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ,

which is the Spirit of prophecy. Priceless gems are to be found in the Word
of God. Those who search this Word should keep the mind clear. Never
should they indulge perverted appetite in eating and drinking. If they do this,
the brain will be confused; they will be unable to bear the strain of digging
deep to find out the meaning of those things which relate to the closing
scenes of this earth's history. {18MR 24.1}

Question 2:

5
Can the prophetic books of Daniel and the Revelation be understood by
all who read and study them?

Answer(s):- And Can Be Studied

Prophecy has been fulfilling, line upon line. The more firmly we stand
under the banner of the third angel's message, the more clearly shall we
understand the prophecy of Daniel; for the Revelation is the supplement
of Daniel. The more fully we accept the light presented by the Holy Spirit
through the consecrated servants of God, the deeper and surer, even as the
eternal throne, will appear the truths of ancient prophecy; we shall be assured
that men of God spake as they were moved upon by the Holy Ghost. Men
must themselves be under the influence of the Holy Spirit in order to
understand the Spirit's utterances through the prophets. These messages
were given, not for those that uttered the prophecies, but for us who are
living amid the scenes of their fulfillment. {2SM 114.2}

I am drawn out to address you. I am in great travail of soul for our people.
We are living in the perils of the last days. A superficial faith results in a
superficial experience. There is a repentance that needs to be repented of. All
genuine experience in religious doctrines will bear the impress of Jehovah.
All should see the necessity of understanding the truth for themselves
individually. We must understand the doctrines that have been studied
out carefully and prayerfully. It has been revealed to me that there is
among our people a great lack of knowledge in regard to the rise and
progress of the third angel's message. There is great need to search the
book of Daniel and the book of Revelation, and learn the texts
thoroughly, that we may know what is written. {2SM 392.1}

Ministers and people declared that the prophecies of Daniel and the
Revelation were incomprehensible mysteries. But Christ directed his
disciples to the words of the prophet Daniel concerning events to take
place in their time, and said, Whoso readeth, let him understand.
[Matthew 24:15.] And the assertion that the Revelation is a mystery, not
to be understood, is contradicted by the very title of the book: The
Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to show unto his
servants things which must shortly come to pass. . . . Blessed is he that
readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those
things which are written therein; for the time is at hand. [Revelation 1:1-
3.] {GC88 340.3}

6
There are many who oppose the investigation of the prophecies,
especially those of Daniel and the Revelation, declaring them to be so
obscure that we cannot understand them; yet these very persons eagerly
receive the suppositions of geologists, in contradiction of the Mosaic record.
But if that which God has revealed is so difficult to understand, how
inconsistent it is to accept mere suppositions in regard to that which he
has not revealed! {CE 192.2}

Those who become confused in their understanding of the Word, who

fail to see the meaning of antichrist, will surely place themselves on the
side of antichrist. There is no time now for us to assimilate with the world.
Daniel is standing in his lot and in his place. The prophecies of Daniel and
of John are to be understood. They interpret each other. They give to
the world truths which every one should understand. These prophecies
are to be witnesses in the world. By their fulfillment in these last days
they will explain themselves. {7BC 949.6}

As we near the close of this world's history, the prophecies recorded by

Daniel demand our special attention, as they relate to the very time in
which we are living. With them should be linked the teachings of the last
book of the New Testament Scriptures. Satan has led many to believe
that the prophetic portions of the writings of Daniel and of John the
revelator cannot be understood. But the promise is plain that special
blessing will accompany the study of these prophecies. "The wise shall
understand" (vs. 10 of Daniel 12), was spoken of the visions of Daniel that
were to be unsealed in the latter days; and of the revelation that Christ gave
to His servant John for the guidance of God's people all through the
centuries, the promise is, "Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the
words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein."
Revelation 1:3. {PK 547.2}

As we near the close of this world's history, the prophecies relating to

the last days especially demand our study. The last book of the New
Testament Scriptures is full of truth that we need to understand. Satan
has blinded the minds of many so that they have been glad of any excuse
for not making the Revelation their study. But Christ through His
servant John has here declared what shall be in the last days; and He
says, "Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this
prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein." Revelation 1:3
{TM 116.5}

7
Let us give more time to the study of the Bible. We do not understand
the word as we should. The book of Revelation opens with an injunction
to us to understand the instruction that it contains. "Blessed is he that
readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy," God declares, "and
keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand."
When we as a people understand what this book means to us, there will
be seen among us a great revival. We do not understand fully the lessons
that it teaches, notwithstanding the injunction given us to search and
study it. {TM 113.2}

Daniel and Revelation must be studied, as well as the other prophecies of

the Old and New Testaments. Let there be light, yes, light in your
dwellings. For this we need to pray. The Holy Spirit, shining upon the
sacred page, will open our understanding that we may know what is
truth. {11MR 207.1}

The book of Revelation, in connection with the book of Daniel, especially

demands study. Let every God-fearing teacher consider how most clearly to
comprehend and to present the gospel that our Saviour came in person to
make known to His servant John--"The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which
God gave unto Him, to show unto His servants things which must
shortly come to pass." Revelation 1:1. None should become discouraged
in the study of the Revelation because of its apparently mystical
symbols. "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all
men liberally, and upbraideth not." James 1:5. {Ed 191.2}
"Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy,
and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand."
Revelation 1:3.

A careful study of the working out of God's purpose in the history of nations
and in the revelation of things to come, will help us to estimate at their true
value things seen and things unseen, and to learn what is the true aim of life.
Thus, viewing the things of time in the light of eternity, we may, like
Daniel and his fellows, live for that which is true and noble and
enduring. And learning in this life the principles of the kingdom of our
Lord and Saviour, that blessed kingdom which is to endure for ever and
ever, we may be prepared at His coming to enter with Him into its
possession. {PK 548.2}

8
We are to proclaim to the world the great and solemn truths contained
in the book of Revelation. Into the very designs and principles of the
church of God these truths are to enter. There should be a closer and
more diligent study of this book, a more earnest presentation of the
truths it contains, truths which concern all who are living in these last
days. All who are preparing to meet their Lord should make this book
the subject of earnest study and prayer. It is just what its name
signifies,--a revelation of the most important events that are to take
place in the last days of this earth's history.

John, because of his faithful trust in the word of God, and the testimony of
Christ, was banished to the Isle of Patmos. But his banishment did not
separate him from Christ. The Lord visited His faithful servant in his
banishment, and gave him instruction regarding what was to come upon the
world. {ST, July 4, 1906 par. 2}

Many who are serving as gospel ministers need to study the Word.
Revelation means something revealed, which all are to understand. Dig
deep for the truth. Plead with the Lord for an understanding of His
Word. Those who feel their need of the special help of God will ask Him
who is the Source of all wisdom to supply their necessities. Ask Him to
enlighten your understanding, that you may know how to give light to
others. Put your mind to the tax. Never rest satisfied with a partial
knowledge of the truth, pieced out with some weak suppositions.
("Thoughts on Daniel and the Revelation," March 3, 1901.) {1MR 38.3}

Much ignorance of Scripture prevails, even among those that preach the
Word. Well-educated, intelligent men preach at the Word, and around the
Word, but they do not touch the inner meaning of the Word. They do not
present truth in its genuine simplicity. These men, considering themselves
authority, tell their hearers that they cannot understand either Daniel or
Revelation. {8MR 413.1}

9
Study the Prophecies
Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy,
and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
Revelation 1:3. {FLB 345.1} From the rise and fall of nations as made
plain in the books of Daniel and the Revelation, we need to learn how
worthless is mere outward and worldly glory. Babylon, with all its power
and magnificence, the like of which our world has never since beheld--power
and magnificence which to the people of that day seemed so stable and
enduring--how completely has it passed away! As "the flower of the grass,"
it has perished. So perished the Medo-Persian kingdom, and the kingdoms of
Grecia and Rome. And so perishes all that has not God for its foundation.
Only that which is bound up with His purpose, and expresses His character,
can endure. His principles are the only steadfast things our world knows.
{FLB 345.2}

A careful study of the working out of God's purpose in the history of nations
and in the revelation of things to come, will help us to estimate at their true
value things seen and things unseen, and to learn what is the true aim of life.
Thus, viewing the things of time in the light of eternity, we may, like
Daniel and his fellows, live for that which is true and noble and
enduring. And learning in this life the principles of the kingdom of our
Lord and Saviour, that blessed kingdom which is to endure for ever and
ever, we may be prepared at His coming to enter with Him into its
possession. {PK 548.2}

An American Reformer - William Miller: With intense interest he

studied the book of Daniel and the Revelation, employing the same
principles of interpretation as in the other scriptures, and found, to his
great joy, that the prophetic symbols could be understood. He saw that
the prophecies, so far as they had been fulfilled, had been fulfilled literally;
that all the various figures, metaphors, parables, similitudes, etc., were either
explained in their immediate connection, or the terms in which they were
expressed were defined in other scriptures; and when thus explained were to
be literally understood. Thus I was satisfied, he says, that the Bible
was a system of revealed truth so clearly and simply given that the
wayfaring man, though a fool, need not err therein. Link after link of the
chain of truth rewarded his efforts, as step by step he traced down the great
lines of prophecy. Angels of Heaven were guiding his mind and opening
the Scriptures to his understanding. {GC88 320.2}

10
To us who believe have been committed the oracles of God. The books of
Daniel and Revelation are full of matter which concerns every one of us.
We should study these books, and let the Lord God of Israel
communicate truth to us, so that we may be able to communicate the
truth to others who live in these last days. The Lord would have His
people learn of Jesus. God forbid that those for whom He has wrought shall
become highminded and be left to their own way as was the king of Babylon.
{13MR 65.2}

Question 3:
What are the reasons for us to study these two books?

Answer(s):- Improved Experience Will Result.

Study the Revelation in connection with Daniel; for history will be
repeated. We must be true and faithful amid the abounding iniquity that
prevails. At no period of time are we in such danger as when prosperity
seems to crown our efforts. Self must be hidden in God. We are living amid
the perils of the last days, and many are insensible to the perils that threaten
our world. We, with all our religious advantages, ought to know far more
today than we do know. "Watch, and pray," said Jesus, "for ye know not
when the time is." "Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of Man cometh at
an hour when ye think not." Repentance is not a desirable emotion. Christ
said, "Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." The right eye is to be
plucked out; the right hand is to be cut off. There is hidden depravity that
needs to be carefully considered and uprooted. God help us individually to
purify our souls by obeying the truth. {SpTA07 55.1}

Study Revelation in connection with Daniel, for history will be repeated.

. . . We, with all our religious advantages, ought to know far more today than
we do know. {Mar 30.5} Angels desire to look into the truths that are
revealed to the people who with contrite hearts are searching the word of
God and praying for greater lengths and breadths and depths and heights of
the knowledge which He alone can give. {Mar 30.6}

11
Prophecies of Revelation Repeat Prophecies of Daniel.-- Revelation is a
sealed book, but it is also an opened book. It records marvelous events
that are to take place in the last days of this earth's history. The
teachings of this book are definite, not mystical and unintelligible. In it
the same line of prophecy is taken up as in Daniel. Some prophecies God
has repeated, thus showing that importance must be given to them. The
Lord does not repeat things that are of no great consequence.--
Manuscript 107, 1897, pp. 1,2. ("Search the Scriptures," no date.)

When the books of Daniel and Revelation are better understood,

believers will have an entirely different religious experience. They will be
given such glimpses of the open gates of heaven that heart and mind will be
impressed with the character that all must develop in order to realize the
blessedness which is to be the reward of the pure in heart. {TM 114.3}
When we as a people understand what this book means to us, there will
be seen among us a great revival. We do not understand fully the lessons
that it teaches, notwithstanding the injunction given us to search and
study it. {TM 113.2}

The Lord will bless all who will seek humbly and meekly to understand
that which is revealed in the Revelation. This book contains so much
that is large with immortality and full of glory that all who read and
search it earnestly receive the blessing to those "that hear the words of
this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein." {TM
114.4}

One thing will certainly be understood from the study of Revelation--

that the connection between God and His people is close and decided.
{TM 114.5}

"The Old Testament no less than the New should receive attention. . . .
The book of Revelation, in connection with the book of Daniel, especially
demands study. Let every God-fearing teacher consider how most
clearly to comprehend and to present the gospel that our Saviour came
in person to make known to His servant John." --Ed., p. 191. {PH124
11.4}

12
There is need of a much closer study of the word of God; especially
should Daniel and the Revelation have attention as never before in the
history of our work. We may have less to say in some lines, in regard to the
Roman power and the papacy; but we should call attention to what the
prophets and apostles have written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit of
God. The Holy Spirit has so shaped matters, both in the giving of the
prophecy and in the events portrayed, as to teach that the human agent is to
be kept out of sight, hid in Christ, and that the Lord God of heaven and His
law are to be exalted. Read the book of Daniel. Call up, point by point,
the history of the kingdoms there represented. Behold statesmen,
councils, powerful armies, and see how God wrought to abase the pride
of men, and lay human glory in the dust. . . .{TM 112.2}

The light that Daniel received from God was given especially for these
last days. The visions he saw by the banks of the Ulai and the Hiddekel,
the great rivers of Shinar, are now in process of fulfillment, and all the
events foretold will soon come to pass. {TM 112.3} Consider the
circumstances of the Jewish nation when the prophecies of Daniel were
given. {TM 113.1}

Let us read and study the twelfth chapter of Daniel. It is a warning that
we shall all need to understand before the time of the end. {LDE 15.4}
The last book of the New Testament scriptures is full of truth that we
need to understand. {LDE 15.5}

The unfulfilled predictions of the book of Revelation are soon to be

fulfilled. This prophecy is now to be studied with diligence by the people
of God and should be clearly understood. It does not conceal the truth; it
clearly forewarns, telling us what will be in the future.--1NL 96
(1903).

The solemn messages that have been given in their order in the
Revelation are to occupy the first place in the minds of God's people.--
8T 302 (1904).

13
"God has chosen a people who are to proclaim the third angel's message to
the world. They are to be a separate and peculiar people in this world of
churches who are transgressing his commandments. We have a special
work to do to prepare the people for the greatest event the world has
ever seen. The books of Daniel and Revelation are of great consequence
to us, and should be studied with great earnestness. {RH, June 21, 1898
par. 38}

Those who eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of God will bring
from the books of Daniel and Revelation truth that is inspired by the
Holy Spirit. They will start into action forces that cannot be repressed.
The lips of children will be opened to proclaim the mysteries that have
been hidden from the minds of men. {TM 116.1}

In the book of Revelation we read of a special work that God desires to

have His people do in these last days. He has revealed His law and
shown us the truth for this time. This truth is constantly unfolding, and
God designs that we shall be intelligent in regard to it, that we may be
able to distinguish between right and wrong, between righteousness and
unrighteousness. {6T 127.3} The third angel's message, the great
testing truth for this time, is to be taught in all our institutions. God
designs that through them this special warning shall be given, and
bright beams of light shall shine to the world. Time is short. The perils
of the last days are upon us, and we should watch and pray, and study
and heed the lessons that are given us in the books of Daniel and the
Revelation. {6T 128.1}

We know that there are many schools which afford opportunities for
education in the sciences, but we desire something more than this. The
science of true education is the truth, which is to be so deeply impressed on
the soul that it cannot be obliterated by the error that everywhere abounds.
The third angel's message is truth, and light, and power, and to present it so
that right impressions will be made upon hearts should be the work of our
schools as well as of our churches, of the teacher as well as of the minister.
Those who accept positions as educators should prize more and more
the revealed will of God so plainly and strikingly presented in Daniel
and the Revelation. {6T 131.1}

14
The truth for this time has been brought out in many books. Let those who
have been dealing in cheap sentiments and foolish tests, cease this work
and study Daniel and the Revelation. They will then have something to
talk about that will help the mind. As they receive the knowledge
contained in this book, they will have in the treasure house of the mind a
store from which they can continually draw as they communicate to
others the great, essential truths of God's Word. {1MR 62.4}
The interest in Daniel and the Revelation is to continue as long as
probationary time shall last. God used the author of this book as a
channel through which to communicate light to direct minds to the
truth. Shall we not appreciate this light, which points us to the coming of
our Lord Jesus Christ, our King? {1MR 63.1}

In the Scriptures are presented truths that relate especially to our own
time. To the period just prior to the appearing of the Son of man, the
prophecies of Scripture point, and here their warnings and threatenings pre-
eminently apply. The prophetic periods of Daniel, extending to the very
eve of the great consummation, throw a flood of light upon events then
to transpire. The book of Revelation is also replete with warning and
instruction for the last generation. The beloved John, under the
inspiration of the Holy Spirit, portrays the fearful and thrilling scenes
connected with the close of earth's history, and presents the duties and
dangers of God's people. None need remain in ignorance, none need be
unprepared for the coming of the day of God. {RH, September 25, 1883
par. 6}

In the experience of Nebuchadnezzar is contained a lesson to which we

should give heed, lest we fall into temptation. The perils of the last days
are upon us, and we should watch and pray, read and heed the lessons
that are given us in the books of Daniel and Revelation. {13MR 67.1}

Brethren, the Lord calls for copartnership in His work. He desires us to
enlist our interests in his cause, as Daniel did. We should receive great
benefits from a study of the book of Daniel in connection with the
Revelation. Daniel studied the prophecies. He earnestly sought to know
their meaning. He prayed and fasted for heavenly light. And the glory of
God was revealed to him in even greater measure than he could endure.
We are in equal need of divine illumination. God has called us to give
the last message of warning to the world. There will be voices heard on
every side to divert the attention of God's people with new theories. We need
to give the trumpet a certain sound. We do not half realize what is before
us. If the books of Daniel and the Revelation were studied with earnest
prayer, we should have a better knowledge of the perils of the last days,
and would be better prepared for the work before us--we should be
prepared to unite with Christ and to work in his lines. {RH, February 9,
1897 par. 13}

Those who make light of the third angel's message do so because they
know little of Daniel or the Revelation. They have not read these
prophecies with a determination to find out the meaning by prayer, by
study, and by fasting. If they had had the experience of Daniel or of
John, they would know that the third angel's message will go forth unto
perfect victory. Those who proclaim that message because they see and
believe it, will understand that very much is comprehended by it. The third
angel is represented as flying through the heavens with a banner on which is
inscribed, "The commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." All who will
gather warmth from the coldness of others, courage from their defections,
and loyalty from their treason, will triumph with the third angel's message.
{RH, June 8, 1897 par. 17}

The books of Daniel and the Revelation should be bound together and
published. A few explanations of certain portions might be added, but I am
not sure that these would be needed. {TM 117.1} This is the suggestion that
I made to Elder Haskell which resulted in the book he published. The need is
not filled by this book. It was my idea to have the two books bound
together, Revelation following Daniel, as giving fuller light on the
subjects dealt with in Daniel. The object is to bring these books together,
showing that they both relate to the same subjects. {TM 117.2} A
message that will arouse the churches is to be proclaimed. Every effort is to
be made to give the light, not only to our people, but to the world. I have
been instructed that the prophecies of Daniel and the Revelation should
be printed in small books, with the necessary explanations, and should
be sent all over the world. Our own people need to have the light placed
before them in clearer lines. {TM 117.3}

I have been deeply impressed by the Spirit of God that we are to pass
through severe trials. Everyone's faith will be tested. We must study
carefully the old waymarks. These experiences in the past are to be
revived. Daniel is to stand out conspicuously with the Revelation given
to John on the Isle of Patmos. {18MR 220.2}

Prophecy the Foundation of Our Faith.--Ministers should present the

sure word of prophecy as the foundation of the faith of Seventh-day
Adventists. The prophecies of Daniel and the Revelation should be
carefully studied, and in connection with them the words, "Behold the
Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." John 1:29 {Ev
196.2}

All that God has in prophetic history specified to be fulfilled in the past has
been, and all that is yet to come in its order will be. Daniel, Gods prophet,
stands in his place. John stands in his place. In the Revelation the Lion
of the tribe of Judah has opened to the students of prophecy the book of
Daniel, and thus is Daniel standing in his place. He bears his testimony,
that which the Lord revealed to him in vision, of the great and solemn
events that we must know as we stand on the very threshold of their
fulfilment. (MR17 9-11)

17
The perils of the last days are upon us, and in our work we are to warn
the people of the danger they are in. Let not the solemn scenes which
prophecy has revealed be left untouched. If our people were half awake,
if they realized the nearness of the events portrayed in the Revelation, a
reformation would be wrought in our churches, and many more would
believe the message. We have no time to lose; God calls upon us to watch
for souls as they that must give an account. Advance new
principles, and crowd in the clear-cut truth. It will be as a sword cutting both
ways. But be not too ready to take a controversial attitude. There will be
times when we must stand still and see the salvation of God. Let Daniel
speak, let the Revelation speak, and tell what is truth. But whatever
phase of the subject is presented, uplift Jesus as the center of all hope,
"the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright and morning
Star." {TM 118.1}

The very same Satan is at work to undermine the faith of the people of God
at this time. There are persons ready to catch up every new idea. The
prophecies of Daniel and the Revelation are misinterpreted. . . . These
messages, received and acted upon, are doing their work to prepare a
people to stand in the great day of God. If we search the Scriptures to
confirm the truth God has given His servants for the world, we shall be
found proclaiming the first, second, and third angels messages. {CTr
342.4}

It is true that there are prophecies yet to be fulfilled. But very erroneous
work has been done again and again, and will continue to be done by those
who seek to find new light in the prophecies, and who begin by turning away
from the light that God has already given. The messages of Revelation 14
are those by which the world is to be tested; they are the everlasting
gospel and are to be sounded everywhere. (17MR 12-15)

18
Will our brethren bear in mind that we are living amid the perils of the
last days? Read Revelation in connection with Daniel. Teach these
things. Let discourses be short, spiritual, elevated. Let the preacher be
full of the word of the Lord. Let every man who enters the pulpit know
that he has angels from heaven in his audience. And when these angels
empty from themselves the golden oil of truth into the heart of him who is
teaching the word, then the application of the truth will be a solemn, serious
matter. The angel messengers will expel sin from the heart, unless the door
of the heart is padlocked and Christ is refused admission. Christ will
withdraw Himself from those who persist in refusing the heavenly blessings
that are so freely offered them. {TM 337.2}

Time is short. The end of all things is at hand. We are to give more
diligent searching to Revelation. Here is a book opened for those who
shall live in these last days of time. Daniel and Revelation are the books
applicable to us, and should be carefully studied, with much prayer.
Read the first three verses: [Revelation 1:1-3, quoted]. {18MR 275.1}
There is not that attention given to Revelation [that] there should be.
Much more should be said in regard to the coming of our Lord. There
should be most earnest attention given to the Word. {18MR 275.2}

God has shown his people what is truth. He has opened to them the
books of Daniel and Revelation, which set forth the truth for this time.
Those who have closed their ears and their understanding to this truth, have
imitated the people who in Christ's day would not receive the light. Evidence
may be piled upon evidence, but men's hearts may be so hardened by the
deceitfulness of sin that evidence, though greatly increased, will prove
nothing to them, because it is not proof they want, but their own way. {1888
1664.1}

The world is stirred with the spirit of war. The prophecy of the eleventh
chapter of Daniel has nearly reached its complete fulfillment. Soon the
scenes of trouble spoken of in the prophecies will take place. {9T 11-16}

MR No. 1304 - Daniel and Revelation Have Been Unsealed, and Should Be
Studied; Improved Experience Will Result
(Written Jan. 27, 1900, from "Sunnyside," Cooranbong, NSW, to F. E.
Belden, Review and Herald, Battle Creek, Michigan.) {18MR 22.1}

I feel a deep sense of the solemnity of the time in which we are now living.
The signs of the times testify that the end is nearer than when we first
believed. Yet there is not shown by many a faith that works by love and
purifies the soul. Oh, this is a solemn time, especially for those who know
the truth. {18MR 22.2}

Summary:
It is made evident from the Scriptural passages and Sister White writings,
that the books of Daniel and The Revelation are opened for us to read and
study. The final point; why do we need to study these two books? And the
answer, thus stated, an improved experience will result, is, I believe, to be
the most decisive in our future destiny. The improved experience here
illustrated is an entirely different religious experience; these words of truth
have life-giving power unto those who live by faith in the Word of God.
There were numerous elements contained in this section, such as:

- The connection between God and His people is close and decided
- There will be seen among us a great revival
- History repeats
- To know and understand the truth for our time
- Prophecy is soon to be completed or fulfilled and the time of trouble
awaits us, therefore preparation ahead of the crisis is required now
- To be reminded that we are in the perils of the last days and to warn
the world
- To study the prophecies and teach them
- Preparing ourselves and others to stand in the great day of God
- We are to be tested by the messages in Daniel and Revelation
- The great day of the Lord is near at hand
