Notes on using Lecture Notes.

I provide pdf's of the notes to the students.

When printing the notes, students will probably want to print them 4-up (shrunk to fit 4
per 8x11-1/2 sheet) and full size for the case studies and their solution.
LecNote1.doc
Page 2 change the third bulleted item for the PLCs you use.
LecNote2.doc
Page 9 May be skipped. Only used if they had digital logic in a prior course. So, if
they are not EE's or CpE's, this is irrelevant.
Page 24 To save some time, do only the first half of the timing
Pages 28-45 use only the pages for the PLCs you use. These are really from chapter
3, but I put them here so that students have enough background to do the first lab
by the end of the second lecture.
LecNote3.doc
I usually skim these pages, covering the material quickly
Pages 3-59 use only the pages for the PLCs you use.
Pages 23-24 cover these in conjunction with the PLC-5 timers and counters
Pages 34-38 skim or skip. Addressing is a one-time thing. After they are set up, it is
of little or no consequence to the program.
Pages 39-41 cover these in conjunction with analog I/O in chap. 4
Pages 60 and following the solution is really the same for all PLCs. The only
differences are the coil symbol and the address definition for the two internal coils
I develop the solution and then talk about safety and the two forms of the
start/stop seal rung
LecNote4.doc
Pages 1-12 covered just before first lab
Pages 13-17 covered before chapter 7

LecNote6.doc
Pages 19-29 use only the pages for the PLCs you use.
Pages 40-46 enough pages are provided for one PLC solution. Solutions for all the
PLCs are provided. Often, I do not have time to completely develop the solution

during lecture, so I post the solution to Case Study 8 before lecture and go over it
during class. Solutions for S7 and GE not yet available.
Pages 51-52 Enough space is provided to handle two types of PLCs
LecNote7.doc
Pages 4-5 you may want to modify the integer ranges for the PLCs you use.
Pages 6-57 use only the pages for the PLCs you use.
Pages 60-65 use only the pages for the PLCs you use.
Pages 69-85 use only the pages for the PLCs you use.
Pages 92-103 use only the pages for the PLCs you use. Rather than completely
develop the solution during lecture, I concentrate on the computation/comparison
parts and review the complete solution to Case Study 10 in class. I post the
complete solution after lecture. Solutions for Modicon and GE not yet available.
