Access towards Education System Discourse Community

Introduction

Aristotle (384 B.C. - 322 B.C.), was once quoted for his famous words, The
roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet. While the road to education are very
rigorous courses, but we justify it by the reward in the end. You determine the reward,
other people can give you ideas but at the end of the day its you that decides. The way
we express our selves through our actions and the way we speak to our selves and
others. The way of our routines, we have in our society, or even sharing a common
achievement is called a discourse community. Every person you have every met,
belongs in one or more discourse communities. Different meanings have been passed
throughout time, but, however, when we look at the John Swales (1990) summary. John
Swales, is a linguistic analyst, thoughts were a discourse community is a group of being
sharing a discourse. A discourse is term that we refer to for oral or written
communication by two (2) or more people. Mr. Swales in his studies, shares with us
that there are six (6) key characteristics that fall with in a group, which can be
interpreted under his set and final definition. As a student, not just from The University
of Texas at El Paso, I am currently having an education and plan to get a Medical
Degree (M.D.). Which I have been apart of and seen with my own eyes that are
representing a discourse community of their own society. All education is important but
as you get higher into your degree plan, underlining Medical School, the best
universities are not the IVY Leagues schools but the university that takes you in.

Access to Education stands for everyone being able to receive education in a

global scale. Education should be just for a certain people depending on their
background or by who ever gets lucky. Its for the ones that want to work at it, the ones
who put sweat and tears day in and night out. For the ones who are willing to sacrifice
what they have now, for the idea of a better tomorrow. My father would share with me,
Talk is Cheaper. You can take for hours on what you want. But what actions are doing
to reach what you want? We need to make it a global effect giving Access to
Education, because at the end of the day, you cant say the opportunity wasnt given.
Its up to you if you are willing to put the extra hours. The famous quote I am writing to
you is You can lead a horse to water, but you cant make him drink it. It goes for
giving someone Education. You can give them all the books, access codes, professor,
materials, and a free education. But can are they willing to stay up for many nights,
weeks, and even months to receive a better future.

Mr. John Swales information text, The Concept of Discourse Community,

stands its rightful meaning as what is EXACTLY a discourse community contains.
According to Mr. Swales article, a group of people that can only be considered a
discourse community is when they meet and remain meeting those six (6) specific
criteria throughout the time period. This group, must have a common goal they ALL
trying to achieve, an operation for using communion between ALL members, useful and
information feedback throughout the group, certain standards they have within the
group that must be meant, the feedback must be only held for the group, not something

you share with the public, and, of course, ALL members of this group must have
expertise and knowledge to achieve this common goal.

With what is provided in the paragraph above, Mr. Swales further details in his
article what is and what is not a discourse community. He does it by explain that what is
a Speech and Discourse Community. His explanation is a Speech Community is
something you were born into, grand-fathered in, or by accident or even adoption in the
group. However, a Discourse Community is unit that the members had to gain
acceptance into the group. By training, having qualifications or recruiting members that
meet a certain standards. A Discourse Community can be a Speech Community but it
cant be revised. To be a Discourse Community you must meet all the six (6)
characteristics, usually a Speech Community meets only a couple of the characterizes
but not all. Speech Community doesnt have a set operation and goal(s) to achieve, that
what makes it restricted to its own terms. To have a Discourse Community, it must
shares classification and objectives to shape, mold their overall goals in the present and
future.

Genes are words string all together, make the author and reader recognize the
words on the page. This can include but not limited to, standard methods such as
professional letters or even a brief outline. This is not an over night process, it can take
years, yes, some people dont have that time, but to understand it takes awhile to obtain.
The standards need to be understood and recognizable.

Mr. James Porter understanding is, texts are always part of other texts. No one
has an original thought. However, in conclusion, its not considered plagiarism. We, as
a single individual can form or merge without crossing into other peoples ideas. We, as
a global partnership, pass down ideas from generation to generation-to-generation and
so further. Since we can form our original ideas, we get it from other sources to seek
and able to get the inspiration we can have. In Mr. Porters way of thinking, he shows us
that are how Discourse Communities work. The goal has all ready been achieved, but
now you believe you can do it better. So thats why you try it, because you pin ones
faith on other persons results. You are convinced there is a better way, a different
method, to pass the last standard attained.
Discussion

When I mentioning, Access to the Education System, is a language everyone

understands in their own personal community. Its a network of people looking to
improve their career. Because of this, it is necessary to use every method obtain,
obverse every lecture given, redo and discuss the materials handed, and careful each
procedure. During my personal experience on universities level classes, I have observed
the back breaking of time restriction and classes. I am able to learner and am apart
seeing how they were able to achieve their six (6) requirements of a Discourse
Community. I was able to understand and analyze what the group needs to contain and
quality under each and every category.

The first criterion that meets the rules are that defines a Discourse Community is
that each member in the group has a set public goal(s). The goals of an Access towards
Education System are to make Education a global aspect. Its to ensure that we give
everyone a better future. At the end of the day, it needs to be a studious environment in
which we can allow every current and potential student to successes. In the Debt
,Merit, and Equity in higher Education Access report, African-American and
Hispanic American students disproportionately attend institutions that are associated
with poorer educational outcomes While observing international or state- side
education on frequent basis, it was obvious that every person in a college environment
class, care about their education. Because the classes arent free like they were in a
elementary, middle, and high school. You are paying for your education, in x amount of
dollars. Thats why it was it was very foreseeable to see why every one the same
common goal. Their motives and subject activates were the same.

With that knowledge, it is a Discourse Communitys goal that dictates the

objectives and actions done, and also the effectiveness with the level of communication
provided. To achieve this goal, communication to be involved. Without it, its not a clear
path course. Communications obtains a set order. Without it, everything will fall apart.
Just like Mr. Swales, writes in his text, communication can be verbal or written form.
The Professor hands out the review to each student, detailing what is expected of them,
the duties that they need to perform for the semester, and what certain task are expected.
Every piece of text given, by word of mouth or in a written format, is meaningful.

If we given the Access to Education on a national scale, we will not just helping
ourselves but also other people also known as society advocacy. This action that is taken
is based on the expectations on society given in situation, which also us to better our
knowledge which is called known as genes.

Genes, are required needs for the situation or society level. In the global setting,
there are different various genres. In the Education setting, there a various genres that
are not just relate to written formats but metal ideas as well.

Conclusion

The final requirements that show a discourse community in its members must
have certain aspects. Everyones level ranges from student, to degree level professors
are considered as a part of its community. In order to get to the point where you want to
be, as students of education must observe, practice, understand, test each problem. In
depth observation and analysis of the Access of Education Unit shows that it is in many
ways defined as a Discourse Community. Having referred to and discussed in the text,
all six (6) of John Swales key characteristics for defining a Discourse Community.
